9th Region 2011: Year of the Big Man

Featured Replies

Just a quick note to the big boys in the 9th. It's been a great year if you like post players. Geisler, Thelen, Stauffer, Brown, Crabtree, and Stewart represent what I would think is the deepest class of post players we've seen in a long time. I'll throw in my guy Arlinghaus for playing out of position and having to battle these boys all year. He lacks nothing in the area of toughness .

I love watching all of them play. Love the tenacity. Love the effort.

We go back to a "guard" region next year.

Would add Clay Robinson of Conner to this list. While they have struggled from a team standpoint Robinson has been very good all season while battling a tough shoulder injury.

I didn't include him or Hodges because in the games I've seen they do not play in the post very often. I usually see them in the corner or on the wing.

I do think they're both talened though. Just not the traditional post player.

I would add Donnie Cheatham from Lloyd to the list

Not from the 9th region, but I too enjoy watching the big boys battle inside.

Nice list that you all have posted. Most of my team are big players...will really miss watching them next year too.

Don't forget about Dontel Rice of Holmes.

Like Arlinghaus, he is forced to play out of position but is still averaging right around 12 and 8 a game as a junior. He also put up 30 points and 11 rebounds against #2 Ballard.

Imo it will be awfully hard to deny Mr. Geisler the honor this year.

While a good player I think Donnie prefers to play more on the outside based on the games I saw him play.

Saw the kid play 3 times this year, and all I can say is "flatout lazy", total lack of hustle. It's a shame cause the kid clearly has the skills and can jump out of the gym.

I looked for a 2011 9th region POY thread and this is as close as I could find. While the 9th Region Finals are tomorrow, and all the big men have had their say, does everyone still believe that it is the year of the big men. What player can control a game more than any other in the 9th. Can it be a gaurd or a forward?

The top players consist of Hatton, Thelen, Brown, Geisler, and Stauffer. I see a pattern.

Not as a rule, but for this year the 9th reg POY should be one of the players playing in the finals. All the others have had their chance. Besides Geisler, and Hatton who started the year as canidates, Pike, Trammel, and Hightchew deserve consideration. Big time players have big time games in big games, and this may be the biggest game any of these players have ever played in so far in their lives.

I agree that Hightchew should be included in the conversation but Geisler is player of the year. I have been saying it all season and he has done nothing that would cause me to change my mind.

Geisler is hands down POY. He carried the Breds today and extended that game almost single handedly. He only had 8 points midway through the 3rd qtr and ended up with 31. He had nice spin move buckets in the lane, drilled the buzzer 3, drove to the hole and finished a couple andone's. The kid does it all and oh he also blocks a ton of shots. I wonder how many blocks and rebounds he had today.

Stauffer/Thelen/Stewart would be my next top big men for the Region.

Its been a great season for the Big man.

That would be fine if this thread was about all players and not NKY big men.
