Now the tournament begins. I would liken pool play to conference tournaments in NCAA basketball. Pool play sets the tournament bracket and only eliminates a few teams. Still some pool play matches left but the bracket of 32 is on its way to being set. It is one and done from here on. The US team has exceeded expectations despite losing their match last night on the last kick of the game. They won their pool. They will play Bosnia Herzegovina in match one of the round of 32. I believe the US plays Wednesday at 6 pm.

My understanding is UL has said Fryman can play both.

Will they let him play both baseball and football? Fryman wants to play both.

I'm not saying he will. I am saying we will see if he has any interest in college if he talks with them.

We probably will find out if Donovan has any interest in college coaching with this job open.

If Lawrence can stay healthy, the trade for him will go down as one of the best moves in Bengals history. I am hearing fantastic things about his leadership. He has been in town and fully committed to workouts. The vibe and energy in the locker room are excellent. I can't recall ever being more excited about the prospects for a Bengals team pre-season.

Fair comments and assessments. It is always about the line play for Beechwood, and it almost always is a size challenge. Beechwood rarely lacks high level skill position talent but is always looking for more size on the line.

Who wins if you choose not to go? Is it really a waste of time? Don't you get to meet and hang around with other great players? Experience the game from the best seat in the house even if you don't play? _______________________ Young athletes ...... ....... Don't let your ego and/or your feelings get in the way of unique experiences in life. Never let any coach take something like that away from you. Who cares what other people say if you don't play? Hopefully your ego can withstand that. Maybe they will look at the coach and say, why didn't you play him or her - so it doesn't reflect negatively on you at all does it? Don't quit a team or a sport in high school because of a coach, because it is a once in a lifetime experience. If you are putting in the work, you deserve the experience. Find a way to get the most out of it. Enjoy your teammates. Be the best teammate you can be. Enjoy making yourself the best you can be at whatever you are working at. Create some good memories and experiences that you will think about the rest of your life.

Coaching failure by Mitch Johnson. If I were the Spurs, I would replace him after this series. Not just because of this game. He has done nothing as a coach to help this team win and as failed so many times with poor moves or no moves. He had to put the sense of urgency back into that team and use his bench. The Spurs lost their energy and intensity. Use the bench and conserve energy on your starters when you had the big lead. The Spurs were totally gassed at the end of that game. I will give coach credit for this. That last play with 1.2 to go was beautiful. It just didn't get executed properly. That should have been a dunk for the win by Castle.

I heard this morning that the NCAA appeal won't be heard by the court until February 2027. Dan Patrick was saying this morning that the Big 12 should take action. He also said that other schools may refuse to play Texas Tech in any sport.

When was the last time a team won the NCAA basketball title with 2 freshmen starters? I'm going to research this one unless someone knows the answer and can post it.

I think it is a factor when you weight the scales on a trade like the Garrett trade. Not the top factor but a factor - for Kroenke if no one else.

That is excellent! That is how you build momentum for a recruiting class. He will attract other high level recruits. The question I have in this era, how many freshmen do you want as starters? The goal is a NCAA title and the teams winning titles rely on experienced transfers, not freshmen.

This team was built around pitching and defense. Injuries and underperformance have wrecked that plan. Even with the deepest starting pitching staff in a long time, the injuries have still got them scrambling.

The cost of "fast food" has gone crazy. I paid something like $14 for my McDonald's food recently.

Why are they all on campus so early? Are they allowed to practice as a team already?

Trinity is impressive. Even their pre-game infield practice routine is impressive. Beechwood missed a couple opportunities and then made some uncharacteristic mistakes. When it was 4-0 in the 4th, it felt like Beechwood had more hard hit balls than Trinity but had hit them right at people. The Tigers missed on a bases loaded opportunity and didn't score. Against a great team like Trinity, you can't overcome mistakes and missed opportunities. Every one of those mistakes is 2 more runs for Trinity. I was really impressed by Trinity's catcher. He has a cannon for an arm. Great season for Beechwood! They lost to a great team.

That Kyles Lane location has a terrible traffic pattern. The parking lot is a little small also. I think there is more potential and more customer friendly at Orphanage Rd. property.
