  1. If you think the most recent list is "not close", let's see your Top 20. Dissenters are free.............and actually encouraged..............to offer options. Please show us what you think the Top 20 should look like.
  2. I would say the BGP rankings are a consensus opinion of several folks on here who are able to view a goodly number of girls games.
  3. Briann Popp started at the 2. Murphy and frosh guard Alexis Switzer playes a lot of minutes for Boone.

Coach Dawn does such a good job of teaching his girls to run their offense, patiently, and finally finding a good shot. With the score tied at 40, Sydney Moss imposed her will for three straight buckets to give Boone a 6 point margin they had to fight to hang on to. Unofficially she had 21 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. The Ninth is in faor another interesting year! Nice to talk with you as well, Lawnboy13!
  5. Being an overall good guy could be the STRONGEST of strong suits, IMHO!

  7. When the rankings were developed Bryan Station was No. 13. Also, rankings were compiled before the second loss by Anderson. If they came out right now I suspect W-V would be ranked. Rankings are tough anytime but are particularly tough in the early season. Things seem to change almost game night to game night. Sometimes perhaps too much weight is given to preseason rankings and it seems tougher for a pre-ranked team to prove they don't belong than for an unranked one to prove they do. Always good for a bit of discussion though! :thumb:
  8. Good to see you as well! Sorry I didn't get down to talk a bit but I've been hit with sudden multiple joint arthritic pain. Once I get to a spot I don't want to leave! I'm noping there is some rational explanation for the pain and that it isn't a permanent thing.

  10. Not sure about Holmes but I was told last night by Ockerman's 8th grade boys statistician, that they are 7-0 right now.
  11. Assistant Boone Principal Tim Schlotman, in his intro and reading of Nell's accomplishments, commented on the placing. He said there was concern that if it was painted in front of the Boone County bench that Nell might stomp it off!!!
  12. Covington Holy Cross...10...11...10....6 - 37 Boone Co.....................20....12...16...7 - 55 Covington Holy Cross -- Tipman 3, Staubitz 2, Beal 13, Massert 2, Mayhaus 11, Julian 6. Boone Co. (3-1) -- Ford 2, Popp 2, Jones 2, A. Switzer 3, Moss 32, Nash 6, E. Switzer 3, Hill 5. Sydney Moss rediscovered her jump shot tonight, on the night the Boone County basketball court was renamed and dedicated as Nell Fookes Court, and she scored from all angles. Moss actually put up 20 points in the first half while playing just over 9 minutes. She had 12 in the 1st quarter before sitting out the last 1:46. She added 8 more in the 2nd before drawing her 2nd foul and sitting at the 4:58 mark. Moss played about 11 1/2 minutes in the second half, a lot of it at the point after starter Jessica Jones tweeked her ankle. After the game a ceremony was held to make the dedication. Some 30+ former players were there including one from Coach Fookes first team in 1985 and one who flew in from Chicago for the ceremony. A lengthy list of accomplishments including record and district and regional championships was read. BC Principal Mark Raleigh praised Nell for her dedication and for the many lives she had influenced and remarked that Nell had been like a second mom to so many of her players with a true interest in their lives beyond the court before presenting her with a gift. Coach Fookes then spoke and tearfully thanked so many people for the honor. Her husband Dean and their two boys were called out to be with her as she spoke. The evening ended with refreshments and many friendships being renewed. Nell's husband Dean capped the evening, at least for me, with one of his witty comments. Nell was talking about one of her former players who was there who was an outstanding 3-point shooter. Dean added that she once had eight 3's in a game. Then he looked at the former player and quipped "That was on a Friday night. On Saturday she took the ACT and made four more 3's, getting 12 on the test!" With that I decided to head home. But to sum up, an awesome and well deserved honor for Coach Fookes to have the court named for her and to have her name on that floor forever.
  13. Some comments: Actually the starter you refer to has been playing limited minutes all year. She apparently has had a nagging injury. Her playing less minutes than normal meant the three non-starters just played a few more minutes than they normally would. I'm not sure who the players in sweats were but all the players from last year's Princeton team played last night. I thought freshman Macy Ford did a good job on Mitchell. She knew she didn't have the quickness to stay with Kelsey (who does?!?!) so she concentrated on just staying in front of her. Tough task for any girl but I thought Ford did as well as anyone Boone tried on her straight up. I would assume Coach Fookes went with smaller, quicker players to try to match up with the super fast and quick Lady Vikings. I think the only player for Boone who saw significant minutes in the JV game was the younger Switzer, Alexis. Coach Fookes is really bitting the bullet playing the two freshman guards in critical situations but I think that will pay big dividends later in this season. Those two are two of the better potential 3-point shooters for the Lady Rebels and they neeed to see the playing time to become comfortable. I didn't realize starter Bri Popp didn't play in the second half. That surprises me but perhaps she had an injury. I agree it was a high octane, interesting game, probably the best each team has played this season so far.
  14. I have no dog in this fight but I don't understand the transfer comment. Taulbee is one of five seniors and she transferred in last year from, I think, Conner. Of the other four seniors three have been in the W-V program for at least four years (can't get records any further back than that) and the other is a player who didn't play last year (injury maybe?) but was on the roster two years ago. There are seven juniors on the roster. Three are in their 4th year in the program, one is in her 3rd year, and the other three in their 2nd year. One sophomore is in her 4th year. The remaining players are newcomers, mostly 8th graders and freshmen. Of the nine players that have played enough to have scored in W-V's first several games, seven of those are in their 4th year in the program, one is in her 3rd, and one (Taulbee) is in her 2nd. If players come into a program from somewhere else early enough to rack up 4-5 years I wouldn't really consider them transfers in the sense being inferred. Looks to me like Taulbee is the only "transfer" I see and kids are allowed to make decisions to move under KHSAA rules (don't know anything about Taulbee and her move).
  15. Thanks for the info. Tough for So. Oldham to win with her on the bench that much. Looks to me like the eighth is going to be a real dogfight.
  16. That is correct. But I wonder if South Oldham might not be better served with Whitfield at the 3 or 4 rather than at the point. That will obviously serve her well at UC but I think she might be more of a scorer at the 3 or 4. Also, Mary Dye has signed with Bellarmine.
  17. This gets a "Ditto" from me, based on my personal experiences with that family from this past summer. Again, just from this past summer but that's all I've got to go on that I know.
  18. Walton-Verona.....13...12...13...10 - 48 South Oldham........9.....8...13...15 - 45 Walton-Verona (2-1) -- Clinkenbeard 10, Mullikin 3, Hoffa 5, Ginn 10, Sandlin 7, Taulbee 7, Judy 6. South Oldham (1-1) -- Dye 6, Greenwood 2, Gamsky 5, Wright 3, Housley 8, Whitfield 14, Sedoris 3, Beaudrie 4. Nice win for Walton-Verona! I had seen both teams play and had South Oldham ahead of W-V. Looks like I need to reassess.
  19. Another struggle for Boone County. The Lady Rebels trailed 13-8 after the first quarter and 20-17 at the half. Sydney Moss got untracked a bit in the second half to score 16 of her 22 points to pull Boone into a nine point lead in the third. Walton-Verona cut the lead back to three on several occasions in the fourth quarter, getting a number of scores off inbound plays and hitting timely threes. Boone County freshman Macy Ford finally sealed the victory with four straight clutch free throws in the last minute. The Lady Rebels are definitely a work in progress right now with Coach Fookes trying lots of different combinations and giving younger players time to gather the experience they need.
  20. Doesn't look like that website has been updated since last season.
  21. Yep. Got home at 12:45 and was at work at 7:00. not sure how long I can keep doing that!
  22. Mitchell is special. She may be the quickest player I've seen over the past several years, AAU included. Only Moriah Jefferson, the point guard from Texas, who has signed with UConn is in the same league. Mitchell will flat out leave you in the dust with her devastating cross over dribble and she shot 43.4% from three last year. She's a bit off that so far in two games this year but is averaging 28.5 PPG and 10.5 RPG. Mitchell is a lefty so we'll see two pretty good southpaws in this one with her and Moss, although they likely won't match up one-on-one very often.
  23. Should be interesting. Last year's game was actually tied at the half up at Princeton, but the Lady Vikings went on a 29-8 run in the third to break it open. Boone turned the ball over 25 times in that game with a bunch of those coming in that ill-fated third stanza. They will have to protect the ball much better than they have in the three games I've seen so far (two scrimmages, one regular season) to stay in the game. Princeton is extremely quick and can rack up 10 points in a heartbeat if you don't handle their pressure.
  24. Sydney had a bit of an off night shooting the basketball so she turned to defense and feeding nice passes to teammates. She did have a nine point burst in about a two minute period early in the third quarter, fueled by her defense, that ran the Boone lead up to 20+ and basically sealed the decision. Nash is really good at getting herself in good position to score and Moss got the ball to her very nicely last night. Hill did a nice job on the boards and can score in close. I thought the win was a relatively easy one but sloppy by the Lady Rebels.
  25. I saw a write up of Madison Central's win over George Rogers Clark and Feldhaus did not show up so I'm assuming she did not play. Whether that was a KHSAA penalty or a coaches decision I don't know. Cooksey apparently did coach the game.
