  1. Oops, this link is the opposite of last night, play-by-play and no video. 6-5 Indiana early. Two fouls of Hammonds and she is sitting.
  2. In 2008 Kentucky won both games, 76 - 59 and 101 - 62. Prior to that you have to go back to 1991 for a Kentucky sweep. Kentucky has swept the series 8 times, including 3 of the first 4 years the series was held. Indiana has swept 13 times. Over the past 10 years, going into this year, Indiana has won 13 of 20 meetings so a sweep this year would be sweet.
  3. Here is a link to tonight's game. I'm guessing it will be like last night's.........just the video with no play-by-play, but it does give you a chance to watch. http://www.ihigh.com/bendavis/broadcast_165460.html?silverlight=1
  4. Sorry just got back on. Here's the link I watched: http://www.ihigh.com/852fx/broadcast_165644.html?silverlight=1 It's a replay now.
  5. Congrats on a nice win ladies! Watched it on the internet. Hammonds was the star with lots of solid help. Sara had 21 points and 13 rebounds and a number of blocks, including a huge one on Indiana Miss Basketball Bria Goss near the end of the game. Carla Booth added 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
  6. Last I heard Moss will not be playing. She is still trying to get that finger right from the cut and stitches and this continued playing doesn't give it time to completely heal as it keeps getting banged.
  7. I wasn't there but I understand Boone County went to Louisville yesterday for two scrimmage games. The Lady Rebels beat Mercy by 1 and lost to Manual, possibly the odds-on favorite for next season (with Marion County in there as well), by 6.
  8. Story on the second scrimmage. Gooch and Tibbs lead All-Stars. http://www.centralkynews.com/amnews/sports/amn-prep-basketball-winners-losers-benefit-from-girls-allstar-scrimmage-at-mercer-20110609,0,5773840.story

  10. Here's a real short video, first part boys, second girls, from the games last night in Louisville. http://www.fox41.com/story/14862684/kentucky-all-stars-scrimmage
  11. But I'll certainly defer to JJ who has a ton more experience at this than I!
  12. Hard to say. I'm not very good at judging talent. I can pick out the really good players playing well but I'm not astute enought to see a really good player not playing well, or tell an average player playing way over her head, which happens at times. I do think most all of the rest of the Premier players can play college BB at some level.
  13. It was a great game to watch, very high quality play the majority of the time. I don't know about counsel but they apparently communicate daily by text. But I can't imagine Syd not playing. She needs to continue to improve and that is tough to do without games like the one against the Essence.

  15. The Kentucky Premier Elite team won the highly competitive Wildcat Memorial Day Showdown yesterday in Lexington. Their tourney victory was highlighted by a semi-final win over an Essence Purple team from Florida that I thought looked as good as any AAU girls team I've seen in the last five years. They were loaded with size and athleticism, scoring, defense, and a deep bench, and included on their roster the No. 8 and No. 10 rated 2012 players per ESPN Hoopgurlz. As a team Essence is rated in the Top 10 AAU Girls teams in the country. I actually wrote a long blow-by-blow on this game last night when I got home but somehow lost it before I got it posted. Fat fingers I guess! Shorter summary is as follows: 1. The Essence jumped to a 26-9 lead in the first 4-5 minutes and the game looked like a mismatch. 2. Premier coaches, head man Jarrad Parmley and assistant David Tapley, called a time-out and got their team in an aggressive full court zone press. 3. The Premier cut the lead down to about 4 with some great defensive pressure and trailed at the half 32-26 on two Essence free throws with 0.7 seconds left. 4. The second half bounced back and forth between a 3-4 point to a 6 point deficit for the Premier and finally jumped up to 8. 5. Another time-out got the Premier back in their aggressive defensive mode and they went on an 11-2 run to gain their first lead at 55-54 on two China Dow free throws. 6. The Premier held the lead, actually once by 5 before a turnover and a three by Essence tied the game with about 2 minutes left. 7. The teams proceeded to trade baskets for the next several trips with Premier getting a two point lead and Essence responding to tie (at least once with two pressure free throws). 8. The last Essence goal to tie came with about 24-25 seconds left. Premier brought the ball up without a timeout, getting instructions from the bench to get the ball to a posting Sydney Moss. Essence defended that and time got short. Bre Elder drove the right sideline hard and turned the baseline corner, harrassed by a pair of defenders. As I heard someone counting down the seconds.....4.....3.....2..., Elder flipped a nice lob to Moss just to the right of the lane and she immediately elevated and arched an 8-foot floater over her defender that split the net as the final buzzer sounded, giving the Premier a thrilling 79-77 win! The Premier, who IMO had been playing pretty lack luster and without the required teamwork normally seen, really put it together in this game with excellent teamwork, good recognition and passing, hard-nosed defense, and with every player making contributions. And they responded well to some excellent coaching instructions. Moss has been struggling with her shooting because of a cut on her right hand index finger which has 5 stitches that must be taped in such a way that the finger is fairly stiff. But she played extermely well in this game and stepped up big at crunchtime. She scored on three of the last four Premier possessions, including the game winner, to break ties (point guard Larryn Brooks gave the Premier the lead on the other possession with a tough driving lay up through the lane). Moss scored 9 points in the last 4-5 minutes of the game to finish with 23 points and 11 rebounds. But it was, as I said, truly a team win as every player on the roster made important contributions throughout the game. Dow and Brooks did very nice jobs at the point as the premier was without starter Makayla Epps who was at the USA U16 tryouts in Colorado. I could probably comment on every player but that would REALLY make this thing long! I will mention Elder who in addition to her final shot feed to Moss played a solid all-around game. Premier then dispatched another Florida team, Central Florida Elite, in the championship game by a 69-62 score, using a defensive-led outburst part way through the second half to break open a close game, one in which they actually trailed by 9 in the first half. Moss again led the Premier with 23 despite sitting most of the first half after a knee injury that occurred when she was sandwiched on a rebound and undercut by one of the defenders who fell on the back of her leg. She played in the second half and did well but was obviously in some discomfort. This was a really good tourney win for the Premier and if they continue to play as they ended the weekend will be a handful for anybody.
  16. Sorry to hear about Jenna's injury. Hope she recovers well. And I agree with you on Cheeseman, she did come on strong. I did a check toward the end of last season and from about January on she led Ryle in a bunch of offensive categories. I don't remember the details now but I did the check when someone on a messageboard commented about her. She defineitely came on after she recovered from, as I recall, some early season injury problems.
  17. I know Sydney Moss of Boone County has been invited to play, could guess at others but we'll eventually hear. Interestingly, the Indiana Junior All-Stars were announced at the same time as their Senior All-Stars (back in March).
  18. Reality is, at my age and with my health issues, I simply won't see games down there in person. My support will still be there but will have to take a different form.

  21. Here is an evaluation on Boone County's Sydney Moss by ESPN Hoopgurlz. Moss played very well after a first game rather slow start, perhaps the result of a week at the beach! She added an interesting new feature to her game in this tourney, hitting 8 of 12 3-point attempts. Moss has demonstrated the ability to hit the 3 in the past but has used it sparingly. In the final game at the Deep South she was 4 of 5, including two consecutive trips down the floor to put the game out of reach for her Kentucky Premier team. Sydney Moss, Kentucky Premier (Union, Ky.): Moss offers up one of those versatile inside-out games that causes headaches and nightmares for opposing defenders. Her size and explosiveness challenges any matchup on the perimeter or in the post. She's most effective at the small forward spot, exploiting an impressive first step to get to the rim or to knock down the pull up. There's no hesitation to take it into traffic and she's got the frame and strength to finish with contact and get to the line time and again. The elevation on her jumper is eye catching and gets her a great view of the rim without defenders in her face. The ball handling is sound and she uses it efficiently but she will need further advancement to find herself at home in the backcourt at the next level. On the defensive end she can again provide contributions at both the guard and forward positions. The same size, strength and quickness that make her an offensive threat allow her to take away options from opponents playing any position. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/womens/news/story?id=6403270

  25. I think had Boone County made it to te Sweet Sixteen Moss likely would have been first team. If you notice all the members of the first team were there. A lot of the voting members probably don't see all the players in the state and place a lot of emphasis on what they see at the State Tournament. Of course voting is subjective and it is very diifficult to pick just five for a first team. I'm trying to find out who the AP writers are who voted for the team. Does anyone on here have that list?
