  1. Brossart did hang tough. The game was just 31-26 at half. Sydney Moss scored 11 points in 6 1/2 minutes in the 3rd quarter to help Boone County pull away. The margin got to 20 or 22 early in the fourth before Coach Fookes pulled most of her starters. Boone had, from memory only because I can't find a box score, three players in double figures. Moss had 24 and at least 15 rebounds and Lydia Nash had about 15. Stacie Shrout was the other starter I remember being in double figures. Bishop Brossart is well coached and, at least in the first half, did a nice job of handling Boone's pressure. They started at least two freshman and played a lot of players. They also shot the 3 well and that kept them in the game for a long time. In looking at their roster they are very young with but a couple of seniors and one junior so they have a bright future. One of those seniors, Becca Kidney, had a nice game today. She's a lefty with a pretty stroke.
  2. I've watched Boone play in two out-of-the-area tournaments this season, as well as at three different games in Ohio, and I'm not too worried about the type of "favorable" officiating they get from 9th district officials. Fact is I've seen no difference in the way Boone games have been officiated in any of those venues, all with different officials. I did think the officiating was erratic last night, making some ticky-tack calls while letting some obvious (at least to me) things go. Not sure if that favors the stronger team or the weaker of the two though, because it tends to break rhythm and that just might affect the better team more. In any case I'm not worried about the type of officiating being different because I haven't seen that this season in watched most of Boone's games.
  3. Highlands 10 5 10 17 42 Boone Co. 26 13 15 14 68 Highlands (11-8) -- Abner 1, Conner 13, Glenn 2, Fisse 2, Schaefer 3, Daley 18, Dunn 2, Bryson 1. Boone Co. (14-3) -- Jones 5, Marschall 6, Harrison 3, Shrout 13, Browning 8, Moss 21, Nash 6, Switzer 5. Easy win for Boone County in a makeup of last night's cancellation. Boone got out the gate quickly behind Moss' 13 points in the first six minutes of the game and coasted after that. The lead got out to 29 early in the 3rd quarter and stay pretty steady after that.
  4. Tough to argue that! Four teams in the LIT ratings Top 20. 9th has 3 as does the 11th, and the 5th and 12th each have 2. If you take the average LIT ratings of the top five teams in each of those regions it looks like this: 7th - 102.9 9th - 96.8 11th - 93.9 12th - 92.0 5th - 88.0 And if you go deeper than five teams per region the 7th looks even stronger overall.
  5. Take a look at these two tournaments in Louisville over the next two weeks, assuming of course the weather is cooperative. 6. Gotta agree with that. Saw Marion County lose two games in the Lexington Tourney. They slept-walked through a game and a half of those losses, including the first half against Boone County. Then they woke up! And Boone County was fortunate to win in OT. Anyone who thinks Marion County is easy, or less dangerous than last season, is in for a shock if they go against them. They are an extremely talented bunch that sometimes may lose focus because of that talent. When they come ready to play there is no one in the state that they can't beat on any given night. If Makala Epps plays an entire game like she played the second half against Boone County I don't think anyone beats them. But again there is that big word.........."if"!
  7. Madison (11-3).....................12 14 7 13 - 46 Boone County (Ky.) (13-3).....13 17 22 16 - 68 Madison -- Malott 18, Blevins 6, Shields 10, Harding 5, Miller 4, Owens-Jordan 3. Boone County -- Moss 24, Shrout 15, Browning 11, Nash 8, Robertson 3, Switzer 5, Jones 2.
  8. Very true, except much of the time Ally actually brings the ball up the floor. She has a very good handle for her size. Her only difficulty is in stopping. There were occasions last night where it was one-on-one in the open floor between Malott and Moss. Moss ended the 1st quarter by backing the 6-3 Malott below the free throw line and hitting a turnaround, generally showed a better handle, and often dished to teammates for goals when help defense showed up. Malott hit several 3's against Moss by using screens as Madison ran a lot of sets for her. She is a tough guard for anyone because she is constantly in motion and has such a quick release. Overall a good battle well worth the price of admission! There definitely were stronger Ohio teams there than Madison but I suspect the match-up of the two M's was a key in Boone and Madison being matched. It was nice to see Ally's family again (she and Sydney played together for the Cincinnati Heat for a couple years). They are such nice people!
  9. Final in the Pickerington Central Shoot-Out. Sydney Moss had 23 for the Lady Rebels and Stacie Shrout continued her hot 3-point shooting. The game was close at halftime but the Boone County pressure created a ton of turnovers and the Lady Rebels put the game out of reach by the end of the third quarter. Ally Malott, No. 40 on the ESPN Top 100 2011 list and a member of this summer's USA 18-U team, was the standout for Madison and did all she could to hold her team in the game. Not sure of her point total but she hit several 3's after a slow start from beyond the line. The battle between Moss and Malott was an interesting one! :thumb: Overall a solid team effort for Boone County who ran their win streak to eight.

  13. I read on another board that she may not come back at all this season to be sure she's completely healed and ready for her senior year.
  14. Moss played less than three quarters, but that really isn't new. That's about what she averaged last season. And if Coach Fookes had wanted to leave Moss in "to pad her stats" she certainly could have done that by not taking her out in the second quarter. I wasn't at the game but have been told by several people who were that Moss was on a mission and could have had 35 at the half if Fookes had wanted that. One of these days I suspect she will do that and let the chips fall where they may. I wouldn't worry too much about Boone forming "bad habits" from games they win big simply because Coach Fookes won't let that happen. She abhors sloppy play and lack of effort and "bonehead" plays. Players who do such things generally get a quick trip to the bench. Winning by a big margin early is a tough situation for a coach. I coached girls basketball a number of years ago and went through that on occasion. You can't simply pull all your starters quickly because they generally work harder and the most of all your players so they deserve to play. They need to play enough, even in blowouts, to keep sharp and to execute new stuff they have been practicing. You can't tell them to back off because that creates issues. Sometimes when you do go with reserves they are still superior to the other team. So the same problems remain. I was not about to put reserves in who had worked hard and hadn't had the same opportunities to play as the starters and tell them to back off. Once a score got out of hand I would not press as much and would sometimes work on plays and defenses that we hadn't used much, but I let my team play. It's a tough situation I know and I didn't want to embarrass another team. If the situation was really bad sometimes my players themselves would find ways to "take it easy". I had no problem with that.

  16. Ah, our choice of words!:lol::lol:
  17. Mechanical Engineer. After many years in chemical plants, currently working for a consulting company. Of course I'm kinda irregular during basketball season as watching my graddaughter play is priority No. 1!
  18. Yes, her career numbers do include that 7th grade year at Heritage. But if you have good numbers for her from that year I'd like to see them to confirm what I have from newspapers. I'd appreciate it. I'll IM you with my email address.
  19. ckshockey, Finally found the poll you saw. It is the FL coaches' poll and had Dwyer at No. 14 in their December 23 poll. Dwyer actually lost a game just prior to the Basketball Brothers Tournament and then 2 of 3 in that tourney so they will obviously drop. Bunch of the teams in that FL coaches poll were in the BB Tournament. Some performed well as compared to their records and some didn't. I suspect Florida has so many teams that ranking teams, particularly early in the season, is a tough task. Teams are really good in their area and run up good records and that gets them ranked in a very imperfect system. Only as they play out of their area, as in this tourney and others like it, does their true strength within the state begin to clear up some. It will be interesting to see the polls next out. It is also interesting as one looks at the games within the RUBY bracket of the Basketball Brothers Tournament. Ryle lost to the eventual bracket champion Villa Marie of Erie, PA. The margin was 15 points and Villa Maria won each of their other two games in the winner's bracket by 9 points. That would certainly indicate that the Lady Raiders would have been competitive with the other FL teams in that Ruby bracket. And that bracket contained the Nos. 2, 9, 14, 25, 26, and 42 teams in the coaches poll I found (the No. 2 lost to Villa Maria in the bracket finals). Nice performance by the Lady Raiders after a long trip away from home! Good job ladies!!!! :thumb:
  20. Just reporting what I could find and document. Both the Palm Beach newspaper roster for Dwyer and her summer AAU team roster listed her at 6-4. Perhaps they prefer listing her smaller than she is. Some teams do that. And, as just a sophomore she may still be just a growing girl! The MaxPrep polls was the only all-of-Florida poll I could find (lots of area rankings but no statewide polls). It had Dwyer at 28th this week and down three spots from the prior week. I tried to find a poll from the various Florida newspapers and the Florida HS association but could not find one. I'll continue to search for another poll.
  21. Per the various rosters I found on-line (HS and AAU), Kai James (pictured above) is listed at 6-4 and a sophomore. From the MaxPreps site for Dwyer she is listed with 4.0 blocks per game through ten games. Also 10.4 PPG and 17.3 RPG. Dwyer is currently ranked No. 28 in Florida in the MaxPreps rankings.
  22. Boone County's Sydney Moss topped the 1000 rebound mark in Wednesday Night's win over Franklin-Simpson. Moss now has 1002 career rebounds to go along with her 1695 career points. At her current scoring rate she should hit the 2000 point mark before the conclusion of this season. :thumb:
  23. Sydney Moss was awarded a Republic Bank Holiday Classic All-Tournament berth after her fine performance against Marion County. She went to the lockerroom and gave that plaque to senior guard Stacie Shrout who absolutely didn't want it. Moss' explanation? "Stacie's a senior and she deserves the award more than I do. She played great. Shoot, I didn't even play the first game!" Shrout was forced into the role of Boone's primary ball handler after starting point guard Jessica Jones was lost to a concussion during the first game of the tournament. Stacie performed admirably in the expanded role and still continued to hit big, timely 3's for Boone County during the tournament. It will be interesting to see Stacie try to give the award back and Sydney continue to insist she deserves it! I debated telling this story but sometimes other things are more important than stats and awards!
