  1. Gotcha, guys! And of course I don't believe everything I read in the paper, Panda...............just like I don't believe everything I read on messageboards! But the scenario is exactly the same as last year for the Ninth Region rep, lower bracket, 1:30 PM this year on Thursday versus Noon on Thursday last year. The time frame and spacing is exactly the same so, unless the KHSAA has a different perspective, I'd think the schedule as shown in the Enquirer would hold. But then again, who knows! As tog says guess we'll know for sure on Monday.
  2. Correct.......from the Enquirer: Girls Monday, Feb. 28: 6 p.m., Boone County vs. Holy Cross; 7:30 p.m., St. Henry vs. Highlands. Tuesday, March 1: 6 p.m., NewCath vs. Villa Madonna; 7:30 p.m., Notre Dame vs. Ryle. Friday, March 4: 6 p.m., Monday winners; 7:30 p.m., Tuesday winners. Sunday, March 6: 1 p.m., final.

  5. Cheerleading? Perhaps, but what Crunch-time said seems pretty factual to me. Would you not agree? What's the rain situation like over there right now? I'm about to head that way.
  6. 7. Amen to that......well said! I met Ryan a couple of years ago and have communicated with him since then. He has always been very helpful and came across as a really good guy. I am disappointed he is leaving but wish him well. I've told him that in an email. In my opinion he did a really good job for the area he had to cover. But, in today's world, there will always be people unhappy no matter.
  8. Thanks! Can't make this one but I'll certainly be listening. Appreciate what you guys do.
  9. Gray boys defeated Ockerman 66-53 to win the 7th Grade Title. This game was a low scoring affair in the first half but turned into a shoot out in the second. After a back and forth quarter and a half Gray put on a late spurt to lead 20-13 at the half. Thr second half Ockerman came out in a full court man-to-man press and the game took on a completely new tenor. Thad Moss became Gray's press breaker and simply dominated the quarter. Held to just two points at the half and obviously a bit frustrated, Moss took the ball around and over the Ockerman press and to the hole. He had 15 points in the 3rd quarter as both teams exceeded their first half totals in the quarter (Gray 22, Ockerman 15}. Gray led 42 - 28 and that 3rd quarter explosion essentially ended the game. Ockerman made a couple of runs, led by some excellent outside shooting by Bo Downs, but continued to not be able to stop Moss from breaking their press, generally sending him to the line. Moss added 6 of 8 free throws in the 4th to capture game high honors with 23 points. The Holmes 8th grade coach was watching the game and commented that Moss was "one big point guard!" And it did look a bit strange to see a 5-11 1/2, 222 pound 12-year old taking the ball up the floor, sometimes taking the ball behind his back and through his legs!
  10. Good question! Wish I had been there for that one to know the answer. I watched Sacred Heart against Manual in the LIT and they appeared to be very composed and unflappable. Manual is very athletic and their press didn't seem to rattle SH in that one. Sometimes things just start to go bad for a team (or good in the case of BC!) and they snowball on them. That's probably what happened last night.
  11. First off this is not about her or her abilities. Through the research I've been doing on the internet I've read enough to know she was an outstanding talent and truly deserves the legend status several here are attributing to her. Also just today came across some video. No doubt she was an outstanding talent! My issue is simply in the accuracy of how many year she played, since that has been the question. I stand by the statement that she didn't average 44.7 PPG for two years of HS. And that would have been based on playing 30 games a season. From what I can find most girls teams didn't play that many games back then in the early days of girls BB revival in Kentucky. I did read that Donna averaged 35 points and 20 rebounds per game as a senior. I've also read in an internet article that Donna played forward for her HS team the year she would have been a sophomore. That gets her to three years of basketball anyway. And, as previously stated, I don't think an organization operated by athletic directors which has inducted a ton of NKY sports figures into its HOF would have her playing years incorrect. I understand she was an outstanding athlete in track and field so I guess it is possible her activities there are what is included in the five years listed by the HOF. But I'm continuing to research and have decided to go straight to the source! I'll report if I get an answer back.
  12. Article from the Courier Journal: Thu Feb 17, 2011 12:00 AM Basketball: Boone County shoots past Sacred Heart 55-50 By J.J. Hysell Special to The Courier-Journal Sacred Heart shut down Boone County's top scorer in the second half, but it couldn't halt the Rebels' flurry of late-game three-pointers. Boone County made three baskets from beyond the arc in the final three minutes to secure a 55-50 win over the host Valkyries. The Rebels (23-5) made just 1 of 9 three-pointers in the first half. But when they needed a rally, they found their outside game. With Sacred Heart (20-5) ahead 50-40, guard Annie Browning sank a three-point shot to cut the deficit to 50-43 with 2:31 left. On the next play, Browning grabbed a steal but missed a layup. Forward Sydney Moss snatched the rebound, balanced herself to stay inbounds under the basket and passed to guard Stacie Shrout, who nailed a three-pointer to make it 50-46. Shrout then stole the Valkyries' inbound pass and made another three-point shot to cut the gap to 50-49 with 1:34 left. The Rebels took a 51-50 lead on a basket by forward Elizabeth Switzer and held on for the win. "We got into the flow of what we wanted to do," Boone County head coach Nell Fookes said. "We settled down, we put the ball in Sydney's hands, where good things happen, and the girls got those shots. We went to the press and got some nice turnovers from that." Moss, who dominated the first half with 14 points, was held to three in the second half but made several key assists. The junior, who Fookes said had been sick, finished with 17 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and seven steals. "She was definitely a factor," Sacred Heart coach Donna Moir said. "Everything went through her. In the fourth quarter we lost their shooters a couple times and they stepped up and hit the shots." Moss was the driving force behind a first-half Rebel rally that gave Boone County a 20-9 lead with 6:10 left before halftime. Sacred Heart embarked on an 11-0 rally, which included two baskets and a free throw from guard Maddie Peabody. With the score tied at 20, Moss ended the run with a jumper and followed with two free throws to give the Rebels a 24-20 lead. Shrout said the players were aiming to get the win for Fookes. The coach, in her 26th year at the school, now has 599 career victories. "We definitely wanted to get the win for Coach, and we wanted to win because Sacred Heart is a great team," Shrout said. "They know they're good and we know we're good, so we knew it would be a good game. We came out with the victory, and that's what counts."Center Lydia Nash had 13 points and made 7 of 8 free throws for the Rebels. Browning had 11 points, and Shrout added 10. The Rebels have won three in a row and 5 of 6. Guard Monica McGreal led the Valkyries with 15 points, and center Morgan Clemons added 13. Forward Annamarie Campbell had a team-high 10 rebounds. "There were moments where we played really well," Moir said. "You had that feeling that they were due to hit a three, and they hit three in a row. That kind of took some air out of our sails. But I was proud of our effort."
  13. From what I understand during that gap there was no state tournament for girls and that was reinstated in 1975. That does not mean that girls basketball wasn't being played. I know in West Virginia before girls basketball was officially santioned (probably a "re-up" like KY) there were high schools around the state playing girls basketball. I seriously doubt an organization run by athletic directors would be inaccurate in what they include in their HOF information. Besides, if Murphy scored 2681 points in just two seasons, and assuming she played 30 games a year (probably high for 1975) she would have had to have averaged 44.7 PPG. That didn't happen.
  14. Wow! BIG win for Boone!!! I'm surprised but obviously very pleased. Outstanding balance for the Lady Rebels which is becoming much more common place here at the end of the regular season. Box Score Boone Co........17 9 10 19 55 Sacred Heart...9 13 17 11 50 Boone Co. (23-5) -- Moss 17, Nash 13, Jones 2, Shrout 10, Browning 11, Switzer 2. 15. Here's a link that will work: http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/default.asp?u=NKACNKADA&t=c&s=htosports&p=custom&pagename=Hall%20Of%20Fame%201984-2008 Gotta click again once you get there.
  16. Been doing more research and, per the linked list of NKACNKADA HOF Inductees, Donna played 5 years. Well, I tried but can't get the link to work, so here is a cut-and-paste showing the info on Donna per the list: Name...................School.............Years..............Date Inducted Donna Murphy......Newport...........1972-1976...........June 11, 1987 The list is very long but if anyone would like to see all the names, a lot I recognize even as a relative newcomer to NKY sports, let me know and I'll copy-and-paste the entire list.
  17. I think you and I are on the same page.......................but I do hope Shockey is right and we are wrong! But I can tell him that SH is a different team now versus December. They are playing much better based on the games I saw at Lexington and just recently at the LIT.
  18. Couldn't get the link to work but here is a cut-and-paste of the page with the girls shown in bold and some research data I found: A look at the top 20 scorers in Northern Kentucky high school basketball history - boys' or girls'. The list was compiled through the Kentucky High School Athletic Association website, with help from local hoops historian Mel Webster. |Points| Player| School| |4,948| Jaime Walz| Highlands| 1991-1996 (six years) |3,187| Erica Hallman| Holmes| 2000-2003 (four years) |3,183| Talbert Turner| Pendleton County| |3,018| Jackie Bearden| Dixie Heights| 1975-1979 (five years) |2,917| Katie Schwegmann| Bishop Brossart| 1997-2001 (five years) |2,865| Scott Draud| Highlands| |2,772| Sandy Johnson| Holmes| 1984-1988 (five years) |2,752| Jennifer Lyons| Bellevue| 1974-1997 (four years) |2,681| Donna Murphy| Newport| ? -1976 Doesn’t show up on KHSAA Records page |2,640| Heather Hassloch| Heritage| ?-2007 (at least four years) Doesn’t show up on KHSAA Records page |2,613| Doug Schloemer| Holmes| |2,612| Christi Osborne| Conner| ??? |2,567| John Crigler| Hebron| |2,565| Celeste Hill| Holmes| 1986-1990 (five years) |2,545| Lori Edginton| Holy Cross| Doesn’t show up on KHSAA Records page |2,536| Lauren Tibbs| Scott| Higher now. 19. From Ryan Ernst in the Cincinnati Enquirer: Boone County junior forward Sydney Moss recently scored her 2,000th career point. The all-state Division I recruit, who first stepped onto the scene as a seventh-grader at Heritage Academy, has played four and a half varsity seasons. At the pace she’s on, she could finish her career with roughly 2,800 points. That would be good enough for fifth place on Northern Kentucky’s all-time scoring list for girls’ basketball.
  20. I definitely agree with the improvement aspect. I saw them in the LIT and they really looked good; disciplined, good shooters, long defenders, and very well coached. They lost by 2 points to Manual there and since the LIT have beaten Mercy by 9. They just might be the best team in Louisville right now. Gotta believe they will be too much for Boone to handle.
  21. Obviously most would state she isn't Ryle's best player.........................but a strong case can be made that she is the most improved, and getting better all the time. If I'm correct she started the season with some sort of injury that limited her playing time. But if you look at Ryle's last 10 games she has certainly come on strong. She is averaging 15.9 PPG over that stretch which is easily Ryle's tops over that stretch. She has shot 49.0% from the floor with only Jump's 50.6% bettering that among the Ryle starters. She has shot 46.6% on 3's which is a team best in that stretch and has just one less 3 in that time than Jump. Ashley has also attempted and made the most free throws for Ryle in that stretch. All that is pretty strong! I hope Shockey will forgive my use of stats but they do sometimes give a different picture than what most might perceive! I won't argue Ashley as Ryle's best player but I will say that I think she is the most improved and, IMO, the key to their chances in the post-season.
  22. Just found an article on the game. Looks like E-Town wasn't at full strength for the entire game. RC may well have won the game anyway but the loss of Greenwell was a huge one foe the Lady Panthers. http://www.thenewsenterprise.com/content/girls-prep-basketball-no-2-rockcastle-downs-no-4-etown-0213
