  1. Absolutely great advise! But sometimes the people in the stands cross the line from razzing to nastily personal and that can lead to problems (let me quickly qualify that to "some" of the people in the stands because I think most have the decency and common sense to keep things at a reasonable level). When you do that in front of a coach's, player's, or ref's family then things can get dicey. My understanding is Dean Fookes left the bench to prevent such a situation from escalating. Nell and Dean Fookes have been around long enough to have seen and heard it all and deal with it for what it is worth. Young family members may not have. And they shouldn't have to. When fans carry things to the nasty personal level they are certainly looking for trouble and may well find more that they want. So a bit of advise to "the people in the stands"........keep it reasonable, keep it clean, keep it within the bounds of common decency. To do otherwise can be also be a lose, lose.
  2. You seem to be inferring Boone County complains about the officiating. My post said that it seemed both fanbases and coaching staffs were unhappy with the officiating. So far in this thread no one from either team has said anything else. My intent was to name the crew to see if anyone knew anything about them, since the original post said big games bring out a strong crew and I don't know any of the local officials. By the way, I did a little quick research on Boone County threads for close games and couldn't find any that fit your description. Could you find an example so we can see what you mean?
  3. The crew was Burkhart, Cole, and Scully. Seemed to me neither coaching staff or fan base was very happy with the officiating.
  4. ND shot 42.4% for the game but cooled off after shooting 50% the first half. Boone shot 41.2%. Big difference was on the boards where Boone outdid ND by a 35-16 margin (not counting team rebounds). The Lady Rebels front line of Moss (11), Nash (11), and Hill (7) accounted for 29. Boone had 17 offensive rebounds and that led to 19 second chance points as compared to just 2 SCP for ND.
  5. Thanks Panda! In a game last week at Scott, Syd became the all-time career scoring leader at Boone County, surpassing the 1800 points put up by Michelle Cottrell who went on to become a 3-time All-American, 2-time Player of the Year in DII at NKU. Syd now has 1877 points and counting.

  7. From the Enquirer on January 8: St. Louis junior Jacy Bradley, a Boone County High graduate, was named to the Seattle University Washington Dental Service Holiday Hoops Classic all-tournament team. In addition, she was one of six players named to the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight Honor Roll. Bradley averaged 18.5 pointer per game, and shot 66.7 percent from the field over the course of two days at the tournament. She scored 24 points in the consolation game, a 66-63 win over Saint Francis (Pa.). Bradley followed that with seven points and a team-high five assists in an 81-54 win over Nebraska-Omaha Jan. 3. She ranks third on the team in scoring at 8.6 points per game, second at 3.3 assists per game, and leads the team with an average of 1.2 steals per game. She is the Billikins’ leading 3-point shooter with a .348 percentage. 8. Again, I say...........offer us your Top 20.
  9. Yes sir.......see you there! Should be a really good one.
  10. To my knowledge Hill is the only "new" player on the Boone County roster. And she was discussed earlier prior to the start of the season. Here is what I posted back then: "If the name sounds familiar I did some internet checking when I found out about Hill and she was a freshman starter at Holmes three years ago. Even had a 15 rebound game that year against Scott. She moved to Virginia when her guardian aunt took an assistant coach's job at Old Dominion. The head coach at OD was released after a long career and the aunt has moved back to Northen Kentucky."
  11. With her fourth early field goal in last night's contest at Scott High School, Sydney Moss broke the career scoring mark at Boone County High School, topping the 1800 point total set by BC and NKU legend Michelle Cottrell. Cottrell moved on from Boone County to be a three time DII All American and a two time National Player of the Year at Northern Kentucky University. Moss finished the night with 26 points, 11 boards, 7 assists, and 4 steals while sitting out the entire fourth quarter. She had a remarkable string in the second quarter with six assists in seven BC trips down the floor, several with pin point passes from beyond mid-court. Scott was very gracious in stopping the game at the first whistle after Moss' record setting field goal and announcing the accomplishment, which drew a warm reception from a fairly large, mostly Scott fans crowd.
  12. I don't know what methods some of these ratings systems use but they might try getting out and actually seeing games actually played. Some of their placings would indicate they don't do that. But, as has been stated, they are simply conversation starters with no other significance.
  13. From another site: "Owen County’s Rianna Gayhart has had a pretty good two weeks. On December 16 in a game against Henry County, Rianna scored her 1500th career point. Then yesterday in a game against Paducah Tilghman, she scored 18 points. That gave her 1588 career points, enough to give her the career scoring record at Owen. Rianna was voted the second best player in Region 8 pre-season and has signed with Northern Kentucky University".
  14. I think Monroe County is too high. I saw them last year and thought they would be solid this season but, IMHO, they are not a top ten team as yet.
  15. Stacie Shrout of Boone County at St. Catharine's and Sydni Wainscott of Simon Kenton at Pikeville. Angie Lawrence of Rockcastle at Georgetown.
  16. According to a list I found last year of top scorers in state history, the three females over 3000 points in NKY are Jaime Walz (all-time female leader, who played at Highlands, Erica Hallman who played at Holmes, and Jackie Bearden who played at Dixie Heights. Murphy is seventh on that list I believe.
  17. This is the total of all the points scored in her career, which started at Heritage Academy in the 7th grade and includes her two seasons at Ryle plus the two+ so far at Boone. At Ryle she actually played about one full season of games over those two years as the 8th grade year was well along before she, and Jenna Crittendon, were brought up to the varsity, then her 9th grade year was frought with problems that resulted in a reduced number of games. My records indicate she played in 32 total games in the two seasons at Ryle. She has played 32 and 34 in her two full seasons at Boone and should top 30 again this season. If she can maintain her current scoring pace AND Boone can have some run in the tournaments she could conceivably reach the 3000 point career mark. I think that's only been done by three girls in NKY history. Sydney is very close to the Boone County career scoring mark, set by Michelle Cottrell who had an outstanding career at NKY and should reach that this coming week if her health is OK.
  18. Boone County's Sydney Moss reached the 2500 point plateau in last night's Gateway Holiday Classic against Walton Verona. Gutty tournament performance by Moss who dislocated her right shoulder in the opening round game against Marshall County, sat out the rest of the half, but came back to get 26 in that game, 34 against Montgomery County, and 22 last night against a tough WV team. The shoulder was obviously painful and locked up on Moss at times. Last night, after a steal in the 4th quarter, she was going in for an easy right handed layin and that shoulder locked.........result, the ball hit the bottom of the rim. Later in the quarter she had another steal and you could see her change her mind and cross over to lay the ball in left handed. She will start on a rehab program Monday but the injury is probably going to be one that nags on for a while.
  19. The Gateway Classic in Mt. Sterling at Montgomery County High School should be a good one featuring four of last year's Sweet Sixteen teams along with several of the top ranked teams so far this season. Wednesday's open round games are as follows: South Oldham vs. Montgomery County 2:00 PM Marshall County vs. Boone County 4:00 PM Madison Central vs. Walton Verona 5:30 PM Clay County vs. Bryan Station 7:30 PM First round winners will continue in the winner's bracket and losers in the losers bracket until eight spots are determined. The tourney includes eight boys teams as well and their very fine website is here for those who wish more info: http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/?u=gatewayholidayclassic&s=basketball&t=c
  20. I guess it always depends on one's perspective but I'm not sure I agree that officials are "protecting" Moss. Boone County played out of the NKY area multiple times last season, in the Republic Bank Classic in Lexington, in the Culver Classic down in the Bowling Green area, in the Louisville Invitational, twice over in Ohio, those game representing ~40% of Boone's regular season schedule, and I saw no difference in the way the games were called, particularly in reference to Sydney. Oops, should add..........officiating is a tough task, used to call myself. The game has become so fast and so physical that it is really difficult to call. I know I used to make calls, instinctly reacting to what I saw, and then think.........did I see that right? Tough job. I suspect the officials call what they see, and perhaps Moss is at a different speed or intensity than many of the other players at times, but I also suspect these officials either do or have called boys games so I don't see that that should have any impact. And speaking of perspectives (!!!), there are times when I think Moss gets banged on a lot more without calls because the officials see that she plays through a lot of that. Take last year's District finals versus Ryle for example. The Ryle player beat on Sydney from baseline to baseline with nothing called. I even had three college coaches comment to me that they had never seen anything like it in scouting HS games. But it didin't matter because Moss played right through it and dominated the game. Again, we see things through our own filters and from our own perspectives, something I've come to understand through the years, but I don't see Moss getting any "special treatment" from local officials, and I think the "no difference" seen during all those out-of-area games last season support that.
  21. Were you at the game? Just curious since your opening thread post says "Looks like it was a good game" yet this post sounds like you saw the play where the injury occurred. What I saw on that play was a scramble for a loose ball where the stronger player won the battle. I know it was a tough play that started, again from my view, with the Highlands player going over Moss' shoulder to deflect the pass. If that was a foul, and called, perhaps there is no negative as well. I am going to get a tape of the game to look at that play in particular. The game was physical at times and that is generally going to favor the stronger player.
