Final from South Oldham. Walton led the entire game. Good win for the Lady Cats.

Nice win for Walton-Verona! I had seen both teams play and had South Oldham ahead of W-V. Looks like I need to reassess.

The Whitfield girl is D1, right? UC?

Yep, think so. She was not much of a factor in this game though, as she spent most of the first half and some of the second on the bench with foul trouble. Most of her 14 points came in the sec half. Walton defended her very well.

Two nice wins for Walton this week

That is correct. But I wonder if South Oldham might not be better served with Whitfield at the 3 or 4 rather than at the point. That will obviously serve her well at UC but I think she might be more of a scorer at the 3 or 4.

Also, Mary Dye has signed with Bellarmine.

Whitfield didn't play the point today. She played the 3 and 4 position. She got in foul trouble early and was never really a factor. She does like to stay on the perimeter but Walton defended her well. I think the pollsters may be underestimating Walton which is probably alright with them.

Congrats to Coach Clinkenbeard and his team on a great win. That is the third consecutive win over South Oldham for the Bearcats in the past year.

Not sure we were watching the same game, Whitfield did play the point. She played as always about 75% of the time, she is the point. The problem is that she did not play most of the game because she got two quick fouls in the first couple of minutes in the game. Did not play again until the 3rd and got in foul trouble again. I wouldn't say the defender on her did such a great job because she was the high scorer in very limited play--she will have to stop being so aggressive on defense in the first half of games. I do think that WV should definately be ranked higher. I think they have the best post players in the region. WV guards know how to get them the ball and they know how to finish at the rim.

Thanks for the info. Tough for So. Oldham to win with her on the bench that much.

Looks to me like the eighth is going to be a real dogfight.

Nice well deserved win for WV. Impressed with their guard play. They made the extra pass to get wide open shots and they nailed them. They have several very nice 3 pt shooters- AND they shoot at a high percentage! Not a well executed game for the Lady Dragons. WV seems to have their number.

W-V is the team to beat in the 8th, at the present time. To win a road game at SO in less than 24 hours after playing a tough opponent like Boone Co. the night before speaks volumes about the moxie of the Lady Bearcats. At this juncture, they appear to be the only 8th region team on a mission. But is still really early in the season, way too early to throw any team under the bus or give any other team a championship crown.
