Boone Co.....................20....12...16...7 - 55

Covington Holy Cross -- Tipman 3, Staubitz 2, Beal 13, Massert 2, Mayhaus 11, Julian 6.

Boone Co. (3-1) -- Ford 2, Popp 2, Jones 2, A. Switzer 3, Moss 32, Nash 6, E. Switzer 3, Hill 5.

Sydney Moss rediscovered her jump shot tonight, on the night the Boone County basketball court was renamed and dedicated as Nell Fookes Court, and she scored from all angles. Moss actually put up 20 points in the first half while playing just over 9 minutes. She had 12 in the 1st quarter before sitting out the last 1:46. She added 8 more in the 2nd before drawing her 2nd foul and sitting at the 4:58 mark. Moss played about 11 1/2 minutes in the second half, a lot of it at the point after starter Jessica Jones tweeked her ankle.

After the game a ceremony was held to make the dedication. Some 30+ former players were there including one from Coach Fookes first team in 1985 and one who flew in from Chicago for the ceremony. A lengthy list of accomplishments including record and district and regional championships was read. BC Principal Mark Raleigh praised Nell for her dedication and for the many lives she had influenced and remarked that Nell had been like a second mom to so many of her players with a true interest in their lives beyond the court before presenting her with a gift.

Coach Fookes then spoke and tearfully thanked so many people for the honor. Her husband Dean and their two boys were called out to be with her as she spoke. The evening ended with refreshments and many friendships being renewed. Nell's husband Dean capped the evening, at least for me, with one of his witty comments. Nell was talking about one of her former players who was there who was an outstanding 3-point shooter. Dean added that she once had eight 3's in a game. Then he looked at the former player and quipped "That was on a Friday night. On Saturday she took the ACT and made four more 3's, getting 12 on the test!" With that I decided to head home.

But to sum up, an awesome and well deserved honor for Coach Fookes to have the court named for her and to have her name on that floor forever.

Great coach, teacher, friend. She may be sitting at the Head of the "best" table in NKY. Maybe even the state!

Thought it is semi ironic the opposing coaches who play at Boone get to sit in front of the big "Nell Fookes Court" painted on the floor. That has got to be worth a few points mentally. lol

Congrats Nell!

Assistant Boone Principal Tim Schlotman, in his intro and reading of Nell's accomplishments, commented on the placing. He said there was concern that if it was painted in front of the Boone County bench that Nell might stomp it off!!!
