I have heard nothing but good things about Coach Roark. And I thought he would get the job personally, but the longer this hiring takes, I think that he is not getting the job. If it was him it would of been done a lot quicker. I heard that they have another interview Monday and they are hoping to have something in the next week. If everything falls into place.

Teams that are in the NFL, NCAA, don't really need to worry about a job for maybe a wife or something similar. I think it is in the kids best interest to take the extra time find the right coach, instead of having to go through the whole process again in a couple of years. That program needs some stability more than anything. Remember NFL coaches and NCAA coaches make a little bit more money than the high school coaches.

Sammy I can't agree with you more. I hope that the kids, mostly seniors, stay involved and look at it from a positive point in that they can turn the program back to what it once was. As my former running backs coach at Fort Knox, Joe Washington, would say, "It starts with heart and believing in yourself."

Nope I think 3wishes said it best. They got a group together to do find the right coach and they had some applicants but things did not pan out and now they have narrowed it down to a certain few is what I've been told. I don't think they are dragging their feet, IMO they didn't drag their feet enought that is why they are where they are.

Settle down everyone they just want to make sure they get the right hire. North has been through many football coaches in the last few years and they want to place the right coach in there I am sure. Better to take the extra time to make sure they got teh right person.

Johnny that is correct about renewing their contract each year. Every year Coach Jaggers, or whoever the coach is for whatever sport they were "rehired" every year. I guess they had a one-year contract each year. I would be interested to see which former coach is that you still keep in contact with. I know a lot of the former coaches live, or lived, in the Etown, Larue area after leaving Knox.

Redhound you may have a point about the 13th Region top teams, but as of right now I think there is only one team in the 13th region that can go deep into the Sweet 16, Corbin. But of course they have to get past the mind game of getting past South Laurel in the Region. And of course South has to get to the Region. If South continues to play the way they are now and St. John gets help from on or two guys they could be dangerous. Once you get to the Sweet 16 all teams are good and you have to play consistently good each day. And one team that I think is going to surprise teams is Knox Central. They are sort of just laying low right now. They played a tought schedule over the Christmas holidays, but they could be a team that could surprise a lot of teams. I think this 13th Region tourney will be better than last years.

I'm not sure what the process is for them hiring coaches. I was coached by Joe Jaggers all my years there so I was lucky I didn't have to go through that process. But from a personal opinion I wish they would just hire a coach that is capable of turning a program around, doesn't matter if he is young or old.

It's hard to count out any team coached by Steve Wright and Roscoe Denny. St John has done a complete turn from last year. He has matured a lot. The 13th region tourney will be a good one again this year. If South has Smith, Dean, and Watkins playing pretty good they are going to be tough to beat. This past win was a big win for South.

That is a big win for Corbin and also has to do a lot for the confidence. Congrats Corbin and Coach P.

I thought both games were good games tonight, and there was a lot of fan support and that was good for the Varsity Club. Of course a lot of fans showed up for the match of Corbin/South, but there were a lot of fans in the seats for the Bell/Knox. As for South/Corbin I am sure there will be many more games this year and the 13th region is up for grabs. You can never count out Steve Wright and Roscoe Denny when it comes to tournament time. But that is a few months away and a lot can happen, between then so lets just sit back and enjoy the fun that is coming our way folks. Happy New year to all!!

I found out abotu 2:00 that yes Bell has said they will be there the coach is not very excited about returning, but will. As for the South/Corbin game I'm sure there would be fans there to support. Happy New Year!!

I love baseball more than any other sports maybe. But in the state of Kentucky baseball will never pass basketball and the tradition of UK and high school basketball. I know with the rise of UK baseball and other colleges within the state doing so well and the players getting to the majors it has been great but we will always be a basketball state, and I'm fine with it. Just wondering I don't have any stats but Fl. is considered a football state but I wold love to see how many players have come from that state to play in the majors.

I know the spill was not anyone's fault, and I wasn't saying that the people in charge of the CFIT had any control over the matter but they do have control over when the games are to be played. I thought the decision to play the LC/Gaffney game was the right decision. But some people might of had plans going to the Lexington or Knoxville or something, I would like to see them move the times earlier, I just don't know how many fans would show up that late.

I've heard that Bell Co is not wanting to play on New Years Eve and is not coming back, I can understand this. But I wonder why they can't play earlier in the day instead of later in the evening and Corbin/South are supposed to tip off at 9:15. I'm interested to see how many people show up for this game.

Honestly, sports for younger kids, and high school age kids would be a lot better if the parents would just support and give the child love or a pat on the back and say "Great job!" or say "Next time you will do better" and leave the coaching to the coaches, things would go so much better. Closed practices are a great thing, I don't want to go to a parents work place and sit there and critique them and say they should do this.

That is an amazing story, I wish other fans could see this. Heck I might even try to figure some way to place it in my program for the upcoming football season. Awesome story....

True the LC game and Gaffney game was moved to LC so Gaffeny could get back on the road. And yeah both games are supposed to be played Wed. starting at 6:30, rumor is that maybe one coach is not happy with playing on New Year's Eve and may not return, I can't verify that, it is just something that was heard (maybe someone can give more insight to that). Heck Bell and KC could have just stopped on the way home and played at KC.

I have to agree with Campbell being left off the team. Heck he was a great punter and helped Corbin out a lot with his foot alone. Someone posted that he only had 777 yards on 81 carries, but if I am doing my math right that averages out to 9.5 yards a carry I'll take that any day of the week. I'm not knocking what Coach Hilton did at Bell and he is a great coach, but I would have like to see two coaches winning the Coach of the Year in that Class with Coach Wayne Mills from Knox Co. in there also. He has done a lot with that program and look for better years to come. And how abotu the "Big Guys" no love for the men in the middle. Without those guys you wouldn't have all those states and stuff for the RB's, QB's, etc.

FC I can't agree with you more. When I played there it was always a good matchup with you all. I would love for those days to return and they will. I can remember that long bus ride to your place and I am sure likewise for you all also. The stands would be packed no matter which stadium we were at.

Personally I love high school sports and football is maybe the one that I enjoy the most. I do think the football season is too long, I think you should shorten it back to the way the playoffs were in the early 80's. I can remember playing the State Championship game Thanksgiving weekend. But this is my complaint, you have teams playing that do not belong in the playoffs and athletes are taking a chance on getting hurt in this games. The people that hurt the most are the fans. For example, it was the first time Hazard has made it to the State Championships, and from what I am hearing not many fans could make it because they got snowed in. That is terrible for those fans and players. This is supposed to be a reward for the fans and players, and because KHSAA wants to have extra playoff games because all kids "need to feel like winners". Reality check!! When we get out in the real world not every one is going to have the job that pays them six figures a year. I don't understand the KHSAA at times, you extend the football season so that is is playing in the beginning part of basketball season, and then during the basketball season you have these kids play their hearts out for 3.5 months go through a grueling basketball post season to make the Sweet 16 and their reward play 4 games over a four day period and one of those days that have to play 2 games, and one of them os the State Championship, something these kids have worked hard for. Why because they can't play on Sunday. That is crazy, shorten the football season to mean something and make the Sweet 16 even better.
