Cumberland Falls Inv. Tonight... Hazmat spill

Featured Replies

The games are postponed. Hazmat officials are on the scene. I believe that their has been a chemical spill.

I was told it would be played Wed. night the championship is to be played at 8;30

I heard the games have been rescheduled until tomorrow. The championship game is to be played at 8:30 p.m. The Hazmat team has evacuated a 1.5 mile radius around the ice plant. Anhydrous Ammonia spill. Roads are blocked coming into town. BUMMER.

That can be nasty stuff!

How close is the ice plant to the school? I am somewhat familiar with the area.

The Ice Company is down at the old Drive In Theatre. It's about a half a mile past the high school going away from town. It's just past Kroger and across from the Dairy Mart, Circle K, Convenient, or whatever it is called now.

Also is KC and Bell tomorrow? I heard Lynn Camp and the South Carolina school game was moved to LC in order to complete so Gaffney could get on the road.

True the LC game and Gaffney game was moved to LC so Gaffeny could get back on the road. And yeah both games are supposed to be played Wed. starting at 6:30, rumor is that maybe one coach is not happy with playing on New Year's Eve and may not return, I can't verify that, it is just something that was heard (maybe someone can give more insight to that). Heck Bell and KC could have just stopped on the way home and played at KC.

I am surprised that Bell and KC didn't just stop in Barbourville to play. Which team is thinking about not playing tomorrow?

Heck I would say both are very hesitant to play on New Year's eve. Sounds as if both teams drove down to Corbin only to be turned away.

I've heard that Bell Co is not wanting to play on New Years Eve and is not coming back, I can understand this. But I wonder why they can't play earlier in the day instead of later in the evening and Corbin/South are supposed to tip off at 9:15. I'm interested to see how many people show up for this game.

You know, it really does stink that the spill forced the games to another day, but it was not anyone in charge of the CFIT fault. Things happen. I don't really see the big deal in playing everything a little earlier. Starting at 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. and finishing up with the championship game following. Most people don't get going with their plans until after 8 anyway. Church watch night services often do not start until 9:00 p.m. or so. Just saying.

I know the spill was not anyone's fault, and I wasn't saying that the people in charge of the CFIT had any control over the matter but they do have control over when the games are to be played. I thought the decision to play the LC/Gaffney game was the right decision. But some people might of had plans going to the Lexington or Knoxville or something, I would like to see them move the times earlier, I just don't know how many fans would show up that late.

The paper said the reason that they couldn't have the games earlier (they apparently tried) was that the clean up crew from Hazmat would still be cleaning up the area until late this afternoon. The soonest they can begin with the two games remaining is 6:30 p.m. (This game is Knox Central and Bell County so apparently Bell is coming) this places the championship game at 8:30 p.m. I am sure they are not pleased (CFIT officials) because this is bound to effect attendance and thus revenue. Hope the Redhound faithful will postpone their plans for a few hours and come on down to support the team. They should still be able to ring in the New Year afterwards. Look on the bright side they may even be able to avoid the crowd and traffic.:D

Should have moved the games to another site and played last night or earlier today. Don't say that was not possible b/c Lynn Camp did it. Fans and teams were already in route to the games last night, I doubt very many will return tonight. I for one will not drive down to Corbin on New Year's Eve and it is just 15 minutes for me.
