Fort Knox

Featured Replies

My brother remembers when this school was very good at football.

How long ago was it when they were a force?

Any think they know why they have been slumping for as long as they have?

Hey fan, I am from the good old days at Fort Knox. And it has been a while since they were a force. Heck it's been a while since they won a game. but it was back in the early 80's (won State Championship in 83, lost in 84 to NCC, made semi-state and lost some great played games to Mayfield, won state again in 88 beat Corbin, then a couple good years after that, I think we lost to Breathitt in 95 or 96). Personally, I still keep in touch with a lot of my former teammates and with the way the military works it is hard to keep kids on the base with parents transferring every few years. But yeah they are aware of the program still and what has been going on, but what can you do.

I think it was 1990 when they beat Corbin in the championship, pretty good game best I remember.

You are correct Campbellfield it was 90, 88 was Somerset. See old age is sitting in haha. Thank you for that correction.

Ft. Knox won in '90 21 - 7.

Also beat Somerset in '83 & '88.

Lost to NCC in '84 and Breathitt in '96.

All finals appearances was under Joe Jaggers except in '96 with Brett Burnett at the helm.

Fort Knox will be back on top, it may take a few years but i believe in Coach Combs and his staff will turn it around.

A lot of it has to do with the short tours of duty of the families, unlike Fort Campbell.

Fort Knox is a training installation, so like The Scribe said, time spent there is drastically shorter than it is for Fort Campbell.

Later.

That is slowly changing as it is going to pick up more and more non-training units in the near future.

They had a great TB in Homer in the 90s also and the potential for another great player in Bacon a few years ago, but he transferred and last I heard was playing in Georgia. Hopefully they can turn things around; I would certainly like to see a more competitive Army bowl then the 70-0 blowouts of late.

FC I can't agree with you more. When I played there it was always a good matchup with you all. I would love for those days to return and they will. I can remember that long bus ride to your place and I am sure likewise for you all also. The stands would be packed no matter which stadium we were at.

I thought the ovation Fort Campbell's fans gave to the 25th Anniversary Fort Knox (1983) championship team at the game yesterday was really cool. You could tell that both sides have a ton of respect for one another.

FT.Knox needs to quit hiring young , relatively inexperienced coaches and bring in an older coach with a track record for turning around football programs. There are a few out there. Seems like the school would get tired of 0-10's .

Sometimes you got to get a young Coach a chance to turning it around to become a old Coach with a track record of turning a football program around.

I'm not sure what the process is for them hiring coaches. I was coached by Joe Jaggers all my years there so I was lucky I didn't have to go through that process. But from a personal opinion I wish they would just hire a coach that is capable of turning a program around, doesn't matter if he is young or old.
