Covington Catholic 2 Conner 1
Never mind on Maines. I just saw in other thread he left the bench in the middle of the game for some reason. Fogle? Did he play? Conner is a different team when he is healthy and in the lineup.

Did Fogle or Maines play in this one?

Scout.com ranks Drew Barker #5 QB
Good luck to Drew and family today. I would be shocked if it's not UK after feeling South Carolina may be his choice for some time. Either school would be great and good luck wherever he ends up.

David McFarland new coach at Ryle
I remember his name from Boone playing days but I can't remember how long ago. What year did he graduate from Boone?

Cooper 21 St. Henry 5 (Frosh)
^I believe it was the Cooper vs Bishop Brossart varsity game last Friday night where they called a balk on the BB pitcher (Verst) making a wierd "action/throw" to second. I'm not sure exactly what he did but there was no argument from the coach.

Boone County 2 Cooper 1
Ganns and Lawhorn both threw well. Cooper just has to figure out a way to manufacture more than 1-2 runs in these district games. You can not expect the pitchers and defense to throw shutouts. Cooper had some chances but couldn't get the big hit when needed. Dunn with a nice night at the plate with a double and triple. Play of the night. Collins on 1st with no outs and Dunn hits a gap shot and Collins thrown out at home for the tying run. A perfect relay from Boone to get him. I had the perfect angle where I could see the outfielder pick up the ball and throw as AJ was just hitting 3rd. I would have sent him as well as I thought there was no way they could get him but two hard perfect throws did the job. Congrats to Boone on a well played game.

Number 1 seeds in the 33rd, 34th, 35th, and 36th Districts
Boone County beat Cooper 2-1 last night. The winner of Ryle vs Boone gets the #1 seed and the loser gets the #2 seed. Conner is #3 and Cooper is #4. Cooper lost to Conner 1-0 (9 inning's) Cooper lost to Ryle 13-2 (was 2-0 after 5.. While Cooper would have probably still lost, they couldn't bring in their #2 or #3 in relief since they had another seed game the next day) Cooper lost to Boone County 2-1 Should be a good 33rd tourney.

Ryle vs Cooper May 1st (Predictions)
My two cents on the situation at Cooper. 1) Very dissapointed in a number of kids who whine when they are not in the line-up and complain to their parents who think they are All Americans. 2) I will put some on the coaching line-ups. Part of me knows that everyone should play some as they put in the work all year and can contribute at times. But, after half the season is over it's time to put those who have proven themselves to be the best 9-10 kids and rotate others in ONLY when the game is completely out of reach one way or the other. After about 15 games it has been clear there are not many options other than about 10-11 kids at most to choose from. 3) Due to kids being out injured or other reasons there has only been the first 7-10 days (not games) of the season where their main group has been there together. Cooper just isn't as deep as I thought they would be early on but I still believe that they can make a run but it will only be with utilizing about 10 players who have proven they can handle it and if you have watched Cooper at all it's not hard to figure those kids out. Their last four loses has been by one run each and I wonder how those games would have turned out with the main line-up in there. Failed executions of bunts and run downs of picked off runners has caused 2-3 of the loses this last week alone. Time to play to win EVERY game from here on out and if kids get their feelings hurt, then time to grow up or go back to JV. They are a good group of kids that need to quit listening to their parents and accept their role. There, I'm done venting :thumb: GO JAG's!!!

Cooper's Jared Blank commits to...
He plays SS for Cooper but his best fit will be 2nd or 3rd in college.

Ryle vs Cooper May 1st (Predictions)
This will be Cooper 2nd Seed game after losing to Conner 1-0 in 9 inning's. I also hear they have their 3rd and final Seed game the day after this one versus Boone so I'm not sure of the pitching match-ups or line-ups.

Highlands catcher Quentin Murray commits to Georgetown Ky
Congrats to Quentin!! A nice young man. I'm sure pops is proud and should be.

Mid count pitching changes
The lefty (Reid) was having a great game and I think Henderson just felt he was losing steam quickly and didn't want to wait any longer. I do agree the beginning of the at bat is better.
-
Mid count pitching changes
I watched the UK game and saw the change as well. Mississippi pinch hit a righty versus the UK lefty pitcher and after the 2-2 count he brought in Sheppard who is a righty pitcher. He ended up walking the guys but I can see where it would benefit in the righty versus righty matchup, if you throw strikes.

Bryan Stevenson Memorial Tournament
Cooper has Prom Saturday night so I'm not sure if anything was changed because of that or not. I did have a Scott parent text me two days ago that we play them Saturday morning at 9am which matched what our coaches told the kids. I really have no idea.

Bryan Stevenson Memorial Tournament
Cooper kids were told they have. Cooper vs Dixie Fri at Dixie 7pm Cooper vs Scott at Scott 9am Sat Cooper vs SK at SK 12:30 Sat Saturday doesn't match up here.

Conner 1 Cooper 0 (9 Innings)
I have had three kids go through or are going through Camp Ernst and Cooper and while I don't have any first hand knowledge on bullying, I can say I have found both administrations to be very professional and very involved with the students. I have full confidence that if there is an issue at Cooper that Principal Wilson will work with the parents and students involved and handle it. Now, back to the thread topic. A great game and I don't doubt they may see each other again before the season is over.

Conner 1 Cooper 0 (9 Innings)
^Not sure if they were there to also see Smiley or not but the coaches left by the third inning when they realized Dunn wasn't there to pitch they hung around a couple innings and left. If they've seen him 2-3 times then they probably know what they want to see one way or the other. Good luck to the young man as he threw well.

Conner 1 Cooper 0 (9 Innings)
We saw the EKU coach leave about the third inning and he didn't look too happy but we had heard he was sick and then the rumors started that it was grades and then we heard he was sick and it was grades. So, who knows. Hunter was not at the game last night but he could still be sick, or it could be grades, or both. If it is grades I hope the young man gets it together as Cooper has had depth problems in their line-up and they could use him back but more importantly, for the Hunters sake as colleges will not want to deal with you if they can't count on you to be eligible. Now, if it really is he is just sick, then I hope he gets healthy and back soon. The team gets AJ back and now has another starter out. Just one of those seasons but a lot of time to get the ship sailing in the right direction. I'm sure someone on here can fill in the truth if they feel desired to do so.

Cooper 10 Holmes 0 (5 inn)
Cooper did what they should do in this game. Colin Smith throws the shutout. Just good to get a win after a tough loss the night before.

2013 KHSAA State Tournament Draw
IMO, if Cov Cath wins the 9th region this year then that would be as big of a shock as when they lost the region during Luke Maile's senior year. I would go with Ryle unless they face NCC in the first two rounds.

Conner 1 Cooper 0 (9 Innings)
^ Chris Setser was the batter. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the call but a couple things to consider. According to the paper, Smiley had struck out 14 batters in 7 innings so the "just hit a fly ball or put it in play" theory is not as simple as it seems. Setser has struggled some this year and imo is not one of their better bunters so what do you do? Do you think the batter in question has a better chance at making contact swinging or by squaring to bunt and have him at least tip it foul? In one way if you have him take the first pitch and it's a strike and then if you squeeze on the next pitch and he tips it foul then he has one strike left to put it in play against a good pitcher. If he squeeze's on the first pitch and tips it foul, then he has two swings to try and get it in play. Gutsy call either way you go. If the batter executes and is successful then everyone is talking about a great call by the coach. It was not the esiest pitch to bunt but from my angle it was close enough to the plate to at least tip it foul if nothing else. Good game by both teams.

Conner vs Cooper- Predictions (4/22)
Game will be played at Cooper. This will only be Cooper's third home game to date with the last coming almost a month ago on 3/25. They moved a couple to Freedom but it will be nice to play on their home field. I assume it will be Maines and Dunn on the mound. I saw in the paper Smiley threw on Friday (not sure # of inning's) and Cooper was cancelled Friday and Saturday so all pitchers should be available. AJ Collins should be back in the line-up after two weeks which will help. Conner hammered Cooper earlier in the season with different pitchers on the mound. I say Conner is the favorite until Cooper can prove it on the field.

Ryle under rated?
I have only seen Ryle once against Cooper and Ryle did not hurt themselves at all and made plays while Cooper had 8 errors and imploded. What I can tell from the scores is they have several pitchers that are very solid so unless they face one of the top 4-5 guys in NKY then they will be the favorite to win, IMO. They hit, field and pitch and should be the no doubt #1 team in NKY. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if they have a tremendous record in the regular season and get beat in the first district game as the 33rd is tough and in a one game scenario against good teams, anything can happen.
