Don't think you can blame the Ump for everything in a 21-5 game.

The score was 19-5. The ump was bad to both teams. Balks should of been called when St.Henry's pitcher was turning without stepping off the rubber and throwing to the shortstop who was 15 feet off the base while trying to pick off the runner on second.

Coopers coaches constantly argued the strike zone. The ump was consistent with his zone. (watched him for 2 games in a row). consistently called low strikes and not the high/numbers pitch. Coopers parents constantly yelled "that was 6 inches outside". you can't tell if a pitch is like that from the stands. Also, I'm sure plenty of St.Henry parents argued calls. Nothing outrageous from either side. Just the typical annoying parents yelling.

Ump made a bad call at the plate in my opinion. Cooper with a runner on 3rd in the top of the 6th (either 1 or 0 outs), easy 2 hopper to short, runner broke slightly late, throw comes home, catcher gets the ball while the runner was 3/4 way home. Catcher blocks the plate as the runner slides. Ump calls the runner out. Coopers 3rd base argues something. Then the ump throws the catcher out of the game for blocking the plate. crazy call. Of course the St.Henry coaches were upset. The cooper kid slid while the catcher had the ball. The tag was made about 3 feet in front of the plate. I never heard the St.Henry coaches yell/say anything about "beaning" players. I'd be disappointed if that was ever said. I don't think there were any HBP for either team in the game.

The game was tied or close thru 4 innings. Cooper hit the ball very well and have a very nice team. Congratulations on the win and good luck in the regional tourney.

Just because you decide to stop keeping score doesn't mean Cooper didn't cross the plate two more times. Ask the guy who keeps your book, unless he quit too. Ejecting the catcher was a bad call. Never once did I say the ump wasn't equally atrocious for both teams. That was kind of my point. But I think any guy sitting pretty much behind the plate can see that a pitch is ~ as Bob Uecker would say ~ jusssst a bit outside, and truly some of them were 6+ inches in that direction.

 

Prepare to be further disappointed....ask the St. Henry coach if he threatened that after the play where the Cooper kid stole home while the kid on first drew the pitcher off in a lengthy pickle. He didn't YELL it, but he absolutely said it. Said he would tell his pitchers to get our boys in the head if we tried that again.

 

This was enlightening.

Was thinking the same thing.....what was the score on the pickle and was the ump's zone large before the score was up by 10?

I'm cool with almost anything until it gets to the 10-run limit.

 

IF it's true that the SHDHS coach mentioned a beaning then SHDHS needs to sit him down and teach him how to conduct himself.

I'm still trying to get a grasp on the play at the plate where the runner was called out and then somehow the catcher was ejected.

For the record there is no report of an ejection on the KHSAA. Ump has 24 hours to report it. Are we sure he was ejected?

It's almost impossible to balk to 2nd. The above wouldn't be a balk.

They did say he was ejected. Don't know how, but that was the impression from the player/coach/and everyone around. Looked like a simple play.

Coopers coaches were adamant that it was a balk, and I also thought you had to throw to a base and not a position player.

Cooper did call off the dogs when the score was out of hand, not advancing runners and were very courteous of the situation.

The ump was consistent with his strike zone. Bad, but consistent.

I had no qualms with the pickle. Smart play by Cooper, bad awareness by St.Henry.

You may be right on the score, either way, it was a beat down the last 3 innings.

I will be very disappointed if the St.Henry coach yelled/insinuated that they would throw at someone. That is uncalled for. I didn't hear it. Not sure how you could unless you were on the field. Hope it didn't happen.

All pickoffs must be made to the base, not a fielder, unless the pitcher steps off first. A spin move to second and throwing to the shortstop at his position, is indeed a balk, as it was not directed to a base.
