Conner/Campbell County Predictions
I haven't seen Conner yet this year but from what I read about them and what I saw last week from Campbell, Conner may win going away.

Beechwood 20 Boone County 6 (Frosh)
I remember 2 years ago when Cooper and Beechwood frosh teams played and I was impressed with Beechwood's coaching. Although Cooper won both games, Beechwood coaches had good game plans and almost pulled off the win in the 1st game.

Highlands 2011 Season
Very expensive for the Cal Ripken Experience... A lot of fund raising.

Cooper 17 Campbell County 0
Morris scored both TD's rushing from the QB position. Field was muddy, a couple turnovers each way, and CC did not look very good tonight. Cooper had several dropped passes again tonight. Not sure of Morris' numbers but whatever they are, they should have been better. Solid D by the Jag's on slippery conditions. Congrats on the first win of the year!!

Travis Elliott will not play the 1st quarter against Colerain (OH)
My son played for Robert Napier one year, and to this day is his favorite coach, even though he was the most disciplined. Old school is correct and I loved it!!

Colerain (OH) 37 Ryle 0
I said in the Ryle/Cooper thread two weeks ago that I would leave Elliott at home for this game. I sure hope I'm wrong and he is okay. No kid works harder than Travis and it would be a shame if it is serious enough to miss part of his Senior year.

Ryle/Colerain (OH) Predictions
Travis will not back down from anyone, that's for sure. The problem will be Colerain was excellent on defense with multiple players swarming to the ball. It would not surprise me, if Colerain is as focused as they were in the Cocoa matchup, if Ryle didn't reach many first downs, let alone score.

Covington Holy Cross 19 Cooper 10
Well, maybe the cramping is a good thing then as it may lead to them finding whatever is wrong. Hope it's not serious and they get him fixed quickly.

Covington Holy Cross 19 Cooper 10
I don't think I saw Morris take one snap as the quarter back tonight. Cooper had been splitting snaps with #16, who had all the snaps last night, and Morris on some drives. #16 is a Soph who may have promise but did not look comfortable at all last night. I would never be a very good coach and haven't seen one practice but I would go with a spread offense with Morris at QB and Collins in the backfield. Morris is your best "scrambler" and passer. The only issue with Morris is constant cramping. I don't know the remedy as I know he has been working on the hydrating part. Is there a doctor on here? Do you need stretching exercises, more running during the week? Etc...

Boone/Conner predictions
Polls don't mean much anyway but these are different teams from last year. There is a lot of unknown this early in the season for both teams.

Tickets for Friday Games at Dixie
At Ryle last week, tickets were $7 for one game. It was a joke to call it part of Skyline Shootout as it was a regular scheduled game between two schools in the same County. I don't mind paying $7 to see a football game as an adult but I think it's a shame to charge students the same rate. I'm all for students getting in free to all of their school events.

Covington Holy Cross @ Cooper predictions
Cooper's defense is better than the Ryle score indicates. Ryle didn't have anything in the first quarter. Elliott breaks one with .9 seconds left in the half. He then returns the opening kick-off in the third quarter. It went down hill some from there. Beal is very good but he is no Elliott, yet anyway. I saw him play through the Pee Wee league and he is a very nice back. Cooper held NCC to 21 through 3 quarters in a scrimmage, that was played like a real game, and NCC hung 42 last week on Dixie so I think NCC is better than most thought they would be. I think this game is decided one way or another by less than 10 and I think Cooper has a slight edge. I haven't seen HC play but Scott and Dayton, unless they are much improved over the last two years, wouldn't factor in my opinion on how good HC is. If Cooper wants to be taken seriously, they shouldn't lose this game, IMO.

Ryle 41 Cooper 17
One man show with Elliott. He was very impressive and even faster than I remember him being. The QB may improve as the season goes on but he threw very little and 48 of his 88 yards was a 5 yard toss to Elliott and he did the rest. He had some nice runs when Elliott went one way and he went the other. If I were Ryle I would keep Elliott home this week as I have a feeling Colerain will win by as much as they want with or without him. If they lose Elliott to injury, Ryle is done. Now, before you jump on me, I know he will play and should play as he is the fiercest competitor in NKY. Stay healthy Travis and finish your career strong!!

Cooper/NCC
Most of the starters seemed to play the first three quarters. I believe NCC had 3 scores and Cooper 2. Cooper used a Soph QB and then Morris as QB as well in some packages. Morris had a couple nice runs as the RB. Several kids on the sidelines in street clothes, not sure of the injuries or if they are even starters. Centers looked very good on the line, going both ways. He was in the backfield a lot. He has gotten very strong over this last season. Cooper had more missed tackles and NCC had more penalties, if I had to guess. Good luck to both teams this year.

At The Yard Rooster tryouts
I hear there is an invite only showcase being held at Thomas More on Sunday. Will there be a time conflict for use of the field? I think the showcase is around noon.

Kentucky Colonels 12 Michigan Elite Black 4 (Triple Play World Series)
The 16u team will have their hands full with the 18's but it is all gravy for them from here on out. They 16s won their pool in an 18u World Series and have improved all season long. The 18s are playing their best as well and have been killing the ball. It's a shame they have to meet in the first round. Good luck to all.

Ky Colonels 1 Panthers 0 U-16 Summer Game
There are some nice players on both teams and a lot of good kids. The other thing is both teams probably have 16-18 kids so scores and game outcomes may be the result of who played that particular game and who pitched, etc. As an example, the KY Col's players that were sitting during this game beat Cincinnati Baseball 4 to 2 the day before who were currently undefeated against local teams (according to what their parents said). So scores of games can be misleading at times. Both teams have good kids and I wish for a healthy and productive season for both squads.
-
Dayton Dodgers 9 Ky Colonels 4 Summer Baseball (U-16)
Actually I was surprised he would know anyone from Dayton playing ball and figure there are probably several Dragon teams around in youth ball but who knows.
-
Dayton Dodgers 9 Ky Colonels 4 Summer Baseball (U-16)
You may or may not have the correct team as the team the Ky Col's played were the Dayton Dodgers.

NCC 8 Beechwood 4
He gave up 5 in the 6th so while hindsight is 20/20.... if a fresh pitcher comes in and, who knows, he may give up 10 but he may give up 0. NCC, with the 2 in the 5th has 3 runs and Beechwood ended up with 4. I think Josh is a very good pitcher, the best they have, but it was a heat index of 100 and he did very well against a very good hitting team. Josh could still pitch Friday and he didn't win 30 games by himself. I don't know their pitchers very well so I would say they should have gone to their #2 (you tell me who that is), then on Wednesday you go with #3. On Friday you come back with Bertke, if you are still playing. I felt bad for Bertke as he is a competitor and never want to come out but that's why coaches are there and Myeroff is one of the best, that's why I'm shocked he didn't go get him. Just my opinion though.
-
NCC 8 Beechwood 4
Cain I think went 4 and was wild but escaped with only giving up 1 run I believe. I heard the heat had him down a bit as well but he battled tough. I think the next kid pitching was Doyle, or something like that. It was not Schmit or Sullivan. I think Beechwood should have pulled Bertke and tried someone else late. They had the lead and then he gave up 2 in the 5th and 5 in the 6th, most with 2 outs. He pitched a complete game but they go home with all their other pitchers. The heat will tire everyone at some point.

NCC 8 Beechwood 4
It was 8 to 4.. Beechwood scored 2 in the 7th.

Dematteo, Popham and Sexton all commit to Thomas More College
Just to be clear, my comments were made after Coop's and your comments about these players. With Sexton's performance this year I was thinking more in line with Morehead and was surprised with his talent that TMC is where he chose to go but as you said, it has to be a good fit wherever you go and playing time is important. TMC is a very nice place to play and are doing well in their conference. I wish them all the best.
