  1. What year was Adams? First name? If it was recently, the coaches did a good job of keeping him a secret.
  2. Clyde, if you find out who "Mark" is, please wake him from his fantasy dream. I know there have been kids over the last few years like Elliot, Sexton, Isler, etc... who have touched upper 80's for a few pitches or maybe an inning. That's flat bringing it. The last 2 I remember who could do it over 5 or more innings are Harmon and Glazer ( hope that spelling is correct ). I'm sure others will bring up other names I may have forgotten or those who THINK someone threw that hard but I'm not sure if anyone around here right now will throw upper 80's all game long.
  3. Believe it or not TOG there are some parents who actually have to work and there are others who actually believe in giving the kids and the coaches some space. If I coached a team it would be me, the other coaches and players and that would be it. Why would any coach ever allow others into his practice? My parents made a handful of GAMES my 4 years at high school and even less in college. They were busting their hump so I could do these things!!!! That is my reply to TOG who, while I don't post often, I read a lot and admire his love of CCH. Just not on this one. As for my reply to this thread, I will say it's extremely ignorant and I think some people have very little to do in life. Try getting one.
  4. I think not having a "stud" pitcher is the coaches biggest concern. Shumate has the potential and they love Arnzen's mental makeup. What they do have is a lot depth with Hellman, Severson, Fagel, Maile, Tomlin and IMO 2 real sleepers in Best and Ward. They will have a really nice defensive team for sure, above average offense and the best team speed they've had in a long time. I'm curious as to HC's pitching depth. Can someone answer please. I know Beechwood has pitching. They should be the favorite but I can see either of the other two winning this district also.
  5. He left CCH after his sophmore season. He's a real nice catcher but please don't compare him to Maile.
  6. Uk fan,i'm a Cov Cath guy but let me point out two things for you. Elder has never "easily" beaten Highlands and when you discuss the history of NKY football, the discussion begins with Highlands at the top and goes all the way down to the bottom wear the likes of SK reside!!
  7. This has nothing to do with the game but I spent some time at Dixie yesterday for another event and all I could say is wow. Been to the baseball field a ton but first time at the football stadium. Beautiful place and not a piece of trash anywhere - and that's a day after a football game was held there. The people there should be really proud. Well done. This from a "blue" colonel.
  8. Give the guy 4 - 5 years. If it isn't working, then MAYBE you look at a change. I don't think people realize what shape the program was in after thier last state title. They had a coach who knew he was leaving and didn't care what shape the program was in. Let the man have some time to put his stamp on the program. I hope they win all their remaining games but either way, I'll be there rooting them on. I just won't be next to the parents.
  9. Kroger lot will definitely be off limits. You might be able to park on the older blacktop and walk from there but the newer blacktop will be blocked off. By the way, CCH 31 - 14.
  10. What does CCH have to do with this? NKU 19 is a Dixie backer, not the other Colonels and was merely giving an opinion which was not at all negative towards Boone. Make sure you know of what you speak before you make such a stupid comment!! And it is a stupid comment because 25 wins is a great year for most teams even if they did lose to Scott and St. H. Congrats to Boone for a great year and OldTimeBall, my only question for you is which diamond will we see your son on next year? Boone's or the school in Ft. Mitchell?
  11. Apparently you should be coaching every team in NKY since you have all the answers. Last night it was Krumps, today Max. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they've won a few of these. Maybe it's just a Colonels' thing. Congrats to Boone and good luck in the state tourney. Well done this year. Congrats to Max and his Colonels also on a great year. I was really hoping they'd pull it out. Would have been great to see him get another title.
  12. I believe his name was Max!! He used to do it to us before a big game every now and then and we would get so fired up, sometimes we were drained by the 4th inning. Hated it then but I laugh about it now!!
  13. You obviously weren't there. He not only tried with Siemer, as mentioned, he also tried with Gerwe as well who fouled it off. Chokes? He's won 9 of these regions. I guarantee you every other coach in the 9th region would like to "choke" like that.
  14. They ran behind last year with 2 1/2 hours between games. I feel bad for the last two teams who get there at 4:00 for a 5pm game and will probably not start until 6:30 or after. Also, they've moved the championship game to 11 am on Sat. Nothing says regional finals like bp at your school at 8:30 am!! I think some of the coaches have had enough. It's great for the fans and parents out there but more and more coaches have had it.
  15. Don't know anything about Conner/Ryle game but the CCH/NCC game was a great one. NCC tied it up at 2 in the bottom of 6th, CCH went up 3-2 in top of the 8th and of course, NCC tied it again. Colonels got 2 runs in top of 12th with two outs on singles by Arnzen and Schneider. NCC went 1-2-3 in bottom of inning. Both teams had runners stranded at 2nd or 3rd throughout the entire game. Cain started for NCC and went 6. Not sure who the other two pitchers were for them. Arnzen went 7 for CCH followed by Ward pitching final 5. These two teams went 10 or 11 innings earlier in year also. Last time they met in semi's a few years back, CCH won in extra innings also. In the finals, Conner struck first with a solo homer in 2nd and another run in 4th I believe. Cov Cath got it to 2 -1 with another Schneider two out single before Conner pulled away in 6th with 3 runs. Maile pitched for CCH and Maines? pitched for Conner. He was the story of the game. Pitched very well. Not overpowering but mixed it up and kept ball low. Congrats to both teams.
  16. Spartan, last names means what??? I'm referring to Luke Maile. What does that have to do with who would have caught this year?
  17. Marley, he was beat out by the frosh LAST YEAR. The frosh outworked him and out practiced him. Krumps simply challenged him and the young man decided to quit IN THE POST SEASON instead of proving he was the catcher of the future behind Mr. Maile. I promise you, he was supposed to be the catcher for CCH his junior and senior season.
  18. All you have to do to shut down about any team, not just Dixie, is have a pitcher who throws a low outside fastball CONSISTENTLY. Not many of those pitchers around though. At least not in this region. You can't say CCH is better than Dixie right now. Dixie won their matchup. Dixie made the plays that night and CCH didn't. They play later in the year and we'll find out who is better that night. As for the idea that CCH would be much better with those other 4 soph's, you're right. But so would every other jv team that has soph's or frosh up playing varsity.
  19. That's not what I said. I said his job is to win games, period, for the high school he is being PAID by. You can coach whatever style of ball you like, be a great or lousy mentor, involve fans, alumni, parents or go it alone, do whatever you choose but you better win especially at places like PRP, Harrison, CCH, LexCath, etc... Other wise you can kiss your resume goodbye!! Sure every coach likes to have players move on to the next level but the next level you mentioned in your original post was a players summer team and my biggest point was that most high school coaches don't care about a kids summer team. I think we both want coaches to do as much as they can to help a young man in any areas they need assistance but I thnk we have differing ideas about how important it is to help the kid with his summer team or the next level. A coaches main focus, IMO, should be to help a young man with life's lessons and to win games. Just my two cents.
  20. First off, 95% or more of the players won't play at the next level. You can certainly help an individual kid who has a chance to go further than high school but you do that in practice or before a game by taking extra bp, ground balls,etc... You do not put that kid/s above the team in a game situation by not bunting him or whatever as you mentioned in your earlier thread. If the situation calls for the young man to give himself up by moving runners over by bunt or hitting behind runners for the good of the team, then that is what should be done. I'll guarantee you that there isn't a high school coach who gives a hoot about getting his player ready for summer ball though!! As for helping a young person become a better person or man, I feel that is the most important job a coach has. Unfortunately, that only gets a coach so far if he isn't winning games. That's why wins and loses are so important because there are a lot of "fans" out there who love to talk of replacing coaches.
  21. What???? A high school coach owes nothing to a kids summer team or to his next level that he may play, The coaches job is to win games. Period. IT'S NOT ABOUT AN INDIVIDUAL PLAYER. IT'S ABOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL TEAM AND THE UNIFORM HE REPRESENTS.
  22. Great weekend for this district( 35th I believe). 2 teams in Doc finals and Beechwood wins All A.
  23. 3 juniors have gone down to get some ab's or pitch some innings. You must realize however that the jv team currently is having a pretty solid season and it's been sophmores for the most part who have done it and more than a few of these guys will probably start or play significantly next year. Don't forget that when the current junior class was playing jv last year, there were 5 frosh that were starting last year. In other words, the soph class is pretty strong both at varsity this year and at jv.
  24. king louie, you are definitely entitled to ask questions and you bring up good points but may I attempt to bring up one answer. The kids who are playing right now don't have a ton of experience other than Siemer, Martin and Klein from a few years ago before he became sick. They need the experience NOW. None of these kids were going to play in front of Maile, Darner, etc... last year and now is there time to try to win a region. Who's to say they can't win it? I realize they aren't exactly the favorite but who would have guessed Beechwood would win it last year? They certainly weren't a top favorite going into the region last year.
  25. I'm pretty sure the coaching staff isn't worried about next year. This is Cov Cath man!! They're playing for today, not tomorrow. Besides, as someone mentioned earlier, they're not even 10 games into the season yet. 5 weeks left. Give these older kids a chance to get on a roll. They have put the time in so they deserve the shot.
