CCH was short on pitching so they brought up two sophomores Fagel and Arnzen who both threw well.

As I have tried to tell people this season, CovCath pitching is deep, very deep. Against one of the best hitting teams in the Ninth Region this year, first time Varsity starter Brain Fagel pitches four solid innings of baseball. He was followed by Tommy Arnzen who threw three solid innings and CovCath won the game.

The Good: Having played so many games in a row just might put gray hairs on some HS coaches, but Krumps just goes a little deeper into the well and pulls out two tenth graders who do an outstanding of holding Boone County to only 3 runs of which only 2 were earned.

 

Young Fagel who is a crafty pitching lefty, whose best pitch is a slow, slower and even a slower fast ball but who can place the ball anywhere he wants along with a nice curve and the guts of a senior did a great job.

 

Then along comes six foot four inch Tommy Arnzen who brings it to the plate with some nasty speed and a nice curve for the last three innings. Tommy, who was unable to play basketball this year due to his knee injury, indeed looked sharp. Funny, but in the top of the seventh the Boone bench with the first batter up tried to get Tommy rattled. After battling the batter to a 3-2 count on seven pitches, Tommy struck out the Boone batter on a swinging strike three for the fist out of the inning and then after the strike out Tommy just looked over into the Boone bench and seemed to let them know, that they could scream, holler or do anything to try to rattle him but he was not going to be rattled. Great job gentlemen.

 

The Bad and Ugly: Beating Boone County be it with sophomores pitching or not, is nice to do, as they have one of the best hitting teams in the Ninth. No there is no Bad or Ugly today!

Pee Wee's Place Offensive play of the: CovCath top of the 5th. With the score tied at 3-3 Warning on a 2-2 pitch takes a Nutini (HBP) and CovCath has it first man on. Klein goes 4-3 for a double play. No one on, two outs. Gerwe walks on a 3-1 pitch and then steal second base. Two out, runner on second. Martin take a Nutini (HBP) and then Lankheit hits a rope to knock in Martin to give CovCath the lead 4-3.

 

BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game: No play sticks out, but all you need to do is to play solid "D" is to make the catches, the throws and play smart. CovCath did that today.

Colonels' win a game of rallies

 

It's a comeback on scoreboard and in spirits

Notre Dame Academy's campus sits across the street from CovCath, and some members of the Colonels' baseball team have close friends among those involved in the crash.

 

 

"Sometimes to get through difficult times, you have to immerse yourself in something else instead of thinking about grief," CovCath coach Bill Krumpelbeck said. "This was a therapeutic game."

 

 

The Colonels rallied to defeat Boone County 5-3 Monday, getting an impressive set of firsts from three of the team's youngest players.

Having played 10 games in seven days, CovCath (10-7) was digging at the bottom of the barrel when it came to putting fresh pitchers on the mound against the hard-hitting Rebels (11-6), ranked fifth in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll.
