  1. Holy Cross (Louisville) hosts Providence (IN) this week. Last season they lost 27-0 @ Providence. They allowed 323 rushing yards to Matt Bell and failed to convert a 26-yard field goal... or score from the 3-yard line. The Cougars will need to shore up their defense and improve their passing game . Last season the Pioneers limited Holy Cross to 89 yards rushing. The Cougars are coming off a 59-8 rout of Ft. Knox.
  2. Southern beats Moore 8-6 as they block a 30-yard FG attempt with :12 remaining in the game. Questionable block in the back negates a Moore kickoff return for a TD to start the second half. The Mustangs had a convoy of 6 players to block one player and he turned his back and fell down right in front of the blockers... and draws the penalty without ever being touched. The Trojans were turned away 3 times inside the 10-yard line by a very stingy defense. But after Moore stopped Southern's first drive of the second half at the one-yard line... they immediately gave up a safety. The game was marred by several interruptions in play due to cramps from the heat.
  3. As of 9:05 am Saturday Just got word that the players have been informed that the DeSales @ Louisville Holy Cross game that had been postponed until Saturday @ 7pm has been CANCELLED. The AD's will meet to see if it is feasible to reschedule the game but as of right now the game has been cancelled. Not sure if there would be an open dates that would accommodate both schools.

  6. Holy Cross actually started freshmen at center, left guard and left tackle in the scrimmage. They had a few linemen who were banged up and did not play. The Cougars will probaly have 5 or 6 freshmen playing significant minutes this season: Demetrius Dillard, Ethan Driskell, Stephon Gilbert, Jacquez Vasquez... and a punishing RB named Mario who might actually be a better LB. The Cougars are young. Period. They have 3 seniors on the roster. I'm sure they will have rough nights against DeSales and Bardstown but they can be competitive against the rest of their schedule. They've just been unfortunate as some seniors have elected not to continue playing football. A few kids penciled in as starters decided to play soccer instead... or just chose not to play due to personal reasons. At this point... you play with whoever wants to dedicate their time and efforts to football. Coach Crumbacker is installing his new offense and it will take some time with their youth movement. I know that Fairdale and Holy Cross played a few weeks ago in 7 on 7... and the Cougars showed some very positive things. They are a little more athletic than you would expect. I just believe that there are some concerns about their depth and they are extremely young.

  8. July 1, 2009 New policy: Coaches must attend sportsmanship seminar By Jason Frakes jfrakes@courier-journal.com All Jefferson County Public Schools head coaches and assistant coaches for fall sports will be required this month to attend an hour-long seminar focusing on sportsmanship and character. The requirement is the result of the JCPS investigation into last year's death of Pleasure Ridge Park High School football player Max Gilpin. JCPS Superintendent Sheldon Berman said Wednesday that PRP coaches did not violate any district or Kentucky High School Athletic Association rules during the Aug. 20 practice that saw Gilpin collapse. But Berman said he was "outraged" to learn that head coach Jason Stinson told his players during conditioning drills that day that "running would end when someone quit the team." http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20090701/NEWS0105/907010403/1002/sports/New+policy++Coaches+must+attend+sportsmanship+seminar

  10. I heard that Friday nights tourney will be split up and played at two locations because Male's practice fields are under water. The eight Louisville area schools will play at Male while the remaining schools will be re-located to play at the University of Louisville.

  12. The Doss starting quarterback sat out the first quarter... and they trailed 8-6 after one quarter. Six minutes into the 2nd Quarter he had engineered 4 touchdown drives.
  13. (Edited to reflect Western forfeits) CLASS 4-A Region Two District 3 LaRue County (4) at Fairdale-Valley winner (1) Western/Atherton (3) at North Bullitt (2) Marion County (3) at Fairdale-Valley loser (2) Western/Atherton (4) at Bullitt East (1) Note: Valley plays at Fairdale on Friday.
  14. From the Louisville Courier-Journal Western forfeits 4 victories For the second consecutive season the Western High School football team has been forced to forfeit victories because of using an ineligible player. This year it will cost the Warriors a district championship. Western athletic director Chris Corbin said today that the Kentucky High School Athletic Association has ruled that the Warriors must forfeit their first five games from this season after playing a transfer from Iroquois who had not yet been ruled eligible. "It's just an unfortunate incident," Corbin said. "The transfer papers didn't get into the right hands until late. The weird thing is that the transfer is eligible now." The Warriors went 4-1 in their first five games but now must forfeit victories over West Jessamine (27-2), Breckinridge County (42-0), Fairdale (21-16) and Central (12-8). Those games now will be recorded as 1-0 victories for Western's opponents. The victories over Breckinridge County and Fairdale had helped Western wrap up the Class 4-A, District Three championship, but the forfeits dropped the Warriors (1-6, 1-2) into a third-place tie with Atherton (1-6, 1-2). Both Western and Atherton will qualify for the playoffs starting Nov. 14, and their seeds (No. 3 or 4) will be determined by a points system based on the records of their defeated opponents. The No. 3 seed will open the playoffs at North Bullitt, the No. 4 seed at Bullitt East. Valley (4-2, 2-1) will play at Fairdale (6-2, 3-0) on Friday to decide the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds. Western was forced to forfeit victories over West Jessamine and Breckinridge County last year after using an ineligible player, also a transfer from Iroquois.
  15. Eight district champions in Jefferson Co. this year: Louisville Holy Cross 1A district 2 DeSales 2A district 5 Louisville Central 3A district 3 Fairdale/Valley winner 4A district 3 Doss 5A district 3 Louisville St. Xavier 6A district 3 Louisville Male 6A district 4 Louisville Trinity 6A district 5
  16. According to my sources, the Western coaching staff have made their players aware that they have forfeited every game prior to the Valley game. On Friday night the District 3 championship will be decided when Valley travels to Fairdale. It is also rumored that the 3 players in question will be ruled eligible for the remainder of the season. The official announcement should be coming soon. Class 4A, District 3 Overall District Fairdale 6 - 2 (3 - 0) Valley 4 - 2 (2 - 1) Western 1 - 6 (1 - 2) Atherton 1 - 6 (1 - 2) Breckinridge County 1 - 7 (1 - 3) A monkey-wrench could really be thrown into the district race if rumors of Atherton playing an 8th grader in the Breckinridge County vs. Atherton game are valid. If that is true Breckinridge County would chalk up their second forfeit win of the season and would finish in third place in the district standings.
  17. From the Courier-Journal website LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky's state high school football championships will be played in Bowling Green in 2009 and 2010. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association board of control voted 14-1 today to play the six title games at Western Kentucky University's Houchens/L.T. Smith Stadium Dec. 4-5 2009 and Dec. 3-4 2010. The finals have been played in Louisville since 1979. But the University of Louisville could not guarantee that its Papa John's Cardinal Stadium would be available for those dates.
  18. This is not exactly related to this situation but I also believe this is true if I read the rule and scenario correctly today: Team R fair catches a punt. They elect to run a "football" play from scrimmage. During the course of the play Team K is called for a 15 yard pass interference penalty. Team R now elects to use their option to free kick. They are now allowed the option to attempt a free kick for three points. I don't know the exact rule off the top of my head but I did read it just this afternoon.
  19. Fairdale @ Doss Friday night. Doss was leading 28-22 when the play occurred. Fairdale had rallied from a 22-3 deficit in the 4th Quarter and had an opportunity to tie the game with a touchdown.... or possibly win with an extra point.
  20. The ball remained motionless on the ground for 2-3 seconds before the K team picked it up and advanced it toward their end zone for an 81 yard touchdown.
  21. I know one team that is drawing up trick plays for this scenario right now. It is ridiculous to lose a game because of this situation. One team's ineptness leads to these circumstances.
  22. Situation: Time 1:40 remains in the 4th Quarter. 4th and 30 Ball on team K's own 19 yard. Team K leads 28-22. Team K lines up to punt the ball. The K's punter lines up at his own 7 yard line to punt the ball (12 yards behind the LOS) and actually kicks the ball from near his own 10 yard line. Team K's punter kicks the ball practically straight up in the air very hight and to the right and the ball travels approximately 10 yards in front of the punter. The ball lands at the LOS (19 yard line) or just behind the LOS. Team R's players retreat from the ball yelling "Peter, Peter, Peter" because the ball is kicked so short. The ball just sits on the field for what seems like eternity and everyone assumes that Team K is not trying to kill the ball because the clock is running and they are clinging to a SIX point lead. Finally a player from team K races over and picks up the football and returns it 81 yards for a touchdown. Can someone please explain what just happened and point me in the right direction in the rule book that explains this. Am I correct to assume that if a scrimmage kick does not travel to the LOS or beyond that team K can advance the kick.
  23. From today's Louisville Courier-Journal: Jefferson County Public Schools' decision to cancel last week's high school football games in the wake of the Sept. 14 windstorm has several athletic directors scrambling to find new opponents. Advertisement Manual and Ballard, however, simply decided to play each other -- again. The host Crimsons beat the Bruins 36-26 on Sept. 12, and they will meet again Oct. 17 at Ballard. The teams had the same open date. "Our first game with Ballard was really competitive, and either team could have pulled it out at the end of the game," Manual athletic director David Zuberer said. "I think that's why both sides were interested." Thirteen games involving Louisville-area teams were canceled. Only three were district games, which must be rescheduled under Kentucky High School Athletic Association rules. Other area football games that have been rescheduled or added (All games will be played at 7:30 p.m.): Friday: Jeffersontown will host Anderson County in a Class 5-A, District Three game. Oct. 31: Male at Eastern. Both teams had open dates. Oct. 31: Fairdale will host Valley in a Class 4-A, District Three game. Valley's scheduled game at J'town on Oct. 31 has been canceled. Oct. 31: J'town will host Oldham County in a Class 5-A, District Three game. The game had been scheduled for this Friday but was moved for the J'town-Anderson County game. Oldham County will be off Friday. Western athletic director Chris Corbin is still trying to negotiate a date for his school's Class 4-A, District Three game against Atherton. Others looking to fill open dates are Butler (Nov. 7), Doss (Oct. 31), Fern Creek (Oct. 3), Moore (Oct. 31), North Bullitt (Oct. 31) and Pleasure Ridge Park (Nov. 7).
  24. With 10:00 to play in the 4th Quarter Henderson Co. 50 Bullitt East 14
  25. Fairdale started a soccer program this year and they were able to find a kicker, Martin Gonzalez. Now they are actually successfully kicking PAT's and Field Goals. It's very strange to see the Bulldogs kicking the ball... and doing it so well. As long as I can remember they've struggled in the kicking game. vs. Male 1-2 PAT missed 46 yard Field Goal vs. Southern 3-4 PAT missed 23 yard FG made 39 yard FG vs. Atherton 10-10 PAT 14-16 PAT 1-3 FG 39 yard long I've seen this kid kick 50+ long field goals in pre-game so he has a very strong leg. Every miss can be credited to bad snaps or holds. He's just a junior and he's never kicked a football prior to this season. He can only get better. He's got a few touchbacks on kick-offs, too.
