Tired of beating on one another for the last month, CAL looked eager to show what this team was capable of doing. While CAL returns the experi- ence of starters Jed Clay, Cal Lewellyn, Chuck Williams, Nick Payne, Bill Jesse, Michael Lagestee, Jacob Paulson and Cameron Smith, this team will be defined by the holes filled by many players who will be stepping into starting roles.

I had a feeling it was going to be a tough year for Holy Cross. I heard they have a freshmen starting at center. He's huge and has tremendous upside, but playing varsity as a freshmen is rough.

Holy Cross actually started freshmen at center, left guard and left tackle in the scrimmage. They had a few linemen who were banged up and did not play. The Cougars will probaly have 5 or 6 freshmen playing significant minutes this season: Demetrius Dillard, Ethan Driskell, Stephon Gilbert, Jacquez Vasquez... and a punishing RB named Mario who might actually be a better LB.

The Cougars are young. Period. They have 3 seniors on the roster. I'm sure they will have rough nights against DeSales and Bardstown but they can be competitive against the rest of their schedule. They've just been unfortunate as some seniors have elected not to continue playing football. A few kids penciled in as starters decided to play soccer instead... or just chose not to play due to personal reasons.

At this point... you play with whoever wants to dedicate their time and efforts to football. Coach Crumbacker is installing his new offense and it will take some time with their youth movement.

I know that Fairdale and Holy Cross played a few weeks ago in 7 on 7... and the Cougars showed some very positive things. They are a little more athletic than you would expect. I just believe that there are some concerns about their depth and they are extremely young.

^I had heard that also.

Yeah, our guys are looking forward to Friday night. Its for the Hibernian Cup. I do believe we'll play it pretty vanilla. During our basketball game with the Cougars, when they announced our State Championship team, all their fans, and basketball team gave a great ovation to us, so I hope we remember that. I know it's the first game and our boys are hyped, but we get nothing out of trying to beat a team into the ground. I expect we'll have a lot of our younger guys in.

Of all the preseason scrimmage scores I have heard, this is the most impressive. Yes, I realize it means nothing and the season starts Friday. Good Luck to all teams!!!!!
