Coach Haywood has taken a young group of players, only a handful of senoirs, starting a gob of frosh and soph and in his system he is turning them not only into a football team but some mighty fine respectable young men. I would have been proud to have had him for a coach while I played at Belfry. As far as the one-dementional thing goes, so what, if it works why change it. My old coach told me before he passed away that football has never changed since he played back in the 40's and 50's...its all about fundimentals and execution, you block you tackle you control the clock and hit harder than the other guy, then most times you will come out on top. This is why the same teams are good year in and year out...great coaching and KY has a bunch of them. My hat is off to ALL coaches for taking the time to build character in our young men year after year.

Congrats to Ashland from the Belry boys, we love it when someone from KY beats up on Ironton.

I don't think anybody "up north" really wants a piece of Bell. Okay maybe STX, everyone else gets spanked.

I was standing at the endzone watching that last play unfold, I knew something was about to happen because it was all in slow motion, the QB was scrambling, the receiver was waving his arms, the pass, the two defenders were moving on top of him and the leaping catch at the one. #19 concentrates on the ball, catches it and pushes into the enzone...the crowd erupts. And yes caught up in the moment, me and another former Belfry player pile into the scrum and congragulate the players. This is a very young team with lots of talent that is going to be force to be reckoned with in the years to come. I don't know how far they will go this year, but after putting together and playing hard for two entire halves last night those young men have shown the they certainly have earned the right to be called Belfry Pirates. All I can say about LCC and Coah Howard is that they have an awesome young team too and they are going to be a force in 5A as well. They are very good. GO MOUNTAIN TEAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going with Russell 21 - 20, if the Devil defense plays strong and can limit the amount of times that Ashland turns 3rd downs into !st downs they will win it. Belfry outplayed them in the 2nd half scoring 20 - 8 by eliminating 1st half mistakes and Belfry is very young and and not as strong as they were in past years. Can't wait to go to Ashland next year.

Boyd will beat PC like a drum!

Boyd Counties defense never stopped Belfry, they stopped themselves with penalties and mistakes. Belfry had 2 runners gain 100 yards on Boyd. That being said, I think Ashland will take this one. Belfry is young and much smaller then years past but I also think it will be close at least until halftime. I would say Ashland by 2 TD's.

If you play at SC you probably do not have much of a chance, if you play at home you probably do.

I agree, really wondering why the other teams bother to play, since the Birds already have it wrapped up... Of course I remember back in '79 when a overly confident Bird team watched a injury-ridden Pirate team douse their title shot and BTW no crying "they cheated".:banana: Thats why they strap them up on Friday nights and at this point anyone has a chance of winning. Seems to me like there was a...hmmm...33 - 0 thrashing of the state champ Birds in the PCB the last time they met Belfry (a pure running team) and there was a terrible taste left in our mouths after that overtime defeat by the Birds in the playoffs. So I don't think I would count out JC just yet. That is why they strap'em on. GO EAGLES!!! GO BELFRY BEAT CENTRAL!!!!!!!:fight:

and the streak continues...............way to go Big Red. I would not have missed it for the world, it was the first real game we had since the Central game. i just hope our schedule gets tuffer next year. BTW I broke my leg at JC in 75 so it always makes my leg feel a little better when we win. Matney is a great coach and a good friend and I hope he takes JC all the way to the dance in the Ville. JC is an awesome team and I will be rooting for them in their quest for a title!!!

This will be a battle if Belfry brings its game face, but if they play sloppy, JC will eat them alive...Ashland knows now just how good JC is. Believe me Matney will have them pumped at home and he will bring out all the stops to punish Belfry for embarasing them last year. I got to watch JC play against the Canucks and wow what a defense, they hit HARD and often. But as a ex-Belfry player and now fan, I know what Pirate Pride means and when you see Angry Red "D" it ain't never pretty for the other team. Our D will have to step up a notch, bend but not break and it should be close. The winning factors for this game look to me like Pirate speed vs. JC's hard hitting D. BTW watch the Harlow kid, he can play defense!!! His dad was a inside backer when we played a "4 - 4 D" back in the 70's and no one hit any harder than he did and he was just 5'7" and maybe 165 lbs and his son looks to be just as good. I attended the JC - St Thomas More game last week and I have to say that the atmosphere was about the best I had ever seen. I sat with a great bunch of fans and had a ball. This is might be a little unusual because I am from Belfry and I loved every minute of it!!! I played on the same Belfry teams with Matney and we are still very good friends, he has done a tremendous job with the team, but he could not have not it without the fanbase and believe me these fans are all sold out for their Eagles. The bunch of guys I was sitting with say it is their year to be beat Belfry (they are something like 0 - 24 against the Pirates) of course those guys were bias.:lol: Belfry will have their hands full from what I seen, JC is big, strong, and will hit you (ask the Canooks). They have a frosh JJ Jude, take notice this kid is going to be very good if he stays healthy. Good luck to JC the rest of the year!!!!
