At this juncture who really cares how old a kid is. This has gone on for years and is no different now. Ages had zero to do with the game result last night, period end of story.

The biggest question mark for me in this game is Highlands pass defense, especially the back end. Were not tested much last week, but showed some vulnerability in scrimmages. Of course, if you apply a good pass rush that can help mitigate some things. Something to keep an eye on.

Pretty accurate synopsis. Point 1 showed out last year and early this year. Dual threat that gets minimized to single threat. Point 2 addressed already. Agree on 3. Still have questions regarding pass coverage but as a group they will get after you. Point 4 results from formations and only being concerned with 22. On first drive, 88 was wide open on backside and could have walked in. Point 5 was not terrible, but happened in crucial situations. Point 6 has been a concern for several years now.

Honestly I question why kids that kicked as middle schoolers and frosh do not get the opportunity to do it on Friday night. The protection issue is addressed already. Also don’t understand why you don’t speak to a guy that is at the high school almost every night and has experience at the next level to help on both the mental and physical aspects of kicking and punting.

When was the last time you saw a Highlands team “settle” for 4 field goals?

I am not buying. You mentioned underachieving. What leads you to that comment after one game?

What is the concern about the kicking game?

Should also add that the kicking game was pretty impressive for kids this age.

8th grade game was Highlands 22 Beechwood 8. Pretty well played game for week one of the season. Both teams with some quality athletes and football players. Good luck to both teams going forward.

Highlands IMO is a work in progress as well. Don’t get me wrong, this team is talented, but do lack in experience at some key positions (receiver, linebacker and defensive back). May take some early games for some of that to work itself out. I will say that I don’t remember Highlands playing this type of schedule when the talent is there, usually these games are played a year or two after.

I am in this camp with what I have seen so far. Do realize it was preseason scrimmages, but there just seemed to be something lacking. 22 is a playmaker and needs to be involved in the offense from the jump. Good luck to both teams as they prepare for a tough opening week game.

The real issue was that the Reds got 0 hits after the second inning and struck out 13 times. That is why this team is so inconsistent.

Wow, I think someone said that when this whole fiasco started.

I expect both teams to use regulars for good part of first half and then turn to subs. Next week games will be all guys trying to make one last good impression to get on final roster.

Just so everyone knows, this is not a scrimmage in the context most people think. As already mentioned, QB is not live. I have always understood this scrimmage as a situational type. Both teams working on things much like a joint practice. In fact, the entire Northern Kentucky Officials Association will be doing training at this event.
