How do you know that they don't do it well? What is your expertise in you deciding whether of not it is done well? If you mess up at your job you have someone that you work for or with and who knows your line of work determining that you messed up. Not someone from down the street at another place of business or someone who doesn't even know your job well enough to make an evaluation. The ref's that are getting regional games have been evaluated and rated by those they work with and for (the coaches). So apparently they are doing their job!

OT is right on this one in that not only is it not their responsibility but they may not even have a good look at the shot. Each official, if they are paying attention, has their primary coverage area and may not see the shot at all or at best see it out of their periphery but they aren't focused enough to see if the shot left the hand in time. I'm not saying this call wasn't missed but I'm saying it's not as cut and dried as the other officials should have over ruled the one making the call or that they weren't paying attention.

Not quite sure what you are saying here? I didn't see the CCH play you are referring to so I cannot comment on that.

If during the course of a game your actions or play warrant a technical then by appropriately applying the rules of the game the official has let the play determine who wins and loses. Pulling your jersey to the side to display your chest and woofing is a taunting tactic which clearly stated before the game is an automatic technical. Is it fair to Boone if the official just lets the taunting go?

There was no national anthem prior to the second game. Guess that is why he didn't stand for it. :sssh:

I don't believe there is a shortage of officials and they are evaluated. There are too many games to evaluate officials at every varsity game. There is also training throughout the year and camp and clinic opportunities throughout the summer months. I've never understood why people continually take what is said on here about the awful officiating of a game and the numbers of missed calls as if that is the gospel truth. :idunno: Where did their expertise come from to be able to give such definitive and accurate labels on the way a game is officiated?

Again 90 wins 10 losses, a state runner up and state championship, yet you are still waiting for "time to tell" whether or not his approach works with this group of kids? :confused:

I believe Holmes has 90 wins and 10 losses in the past 3 years which includes a state runner up and state championship trophy. I'd say we should let Henley continue to use his stubborn offense approach which at least imo seems to be working. :thumb:

They took it on the chin from Ryle just a few games ago. Holmes will be fine, a win is win.

Yes a coach can scratch an official.

If they were that strong wouldn't they be playing varsity minutes? Plus next year they won't be sophmores anymore. If it were a strong class I think they would be making some noise this late in the year. All the kids Walter mentioned are very nice players and are making an impact for their teams this year.

My comments weren't toward the Highlands coach but to Catbird's observations of over coaching at times.

I've commented to several people this year from middle school (understandably so) all the way through high school the trend now for the coach to call a play every trip down the floor. What is practice for? I agree with Catbird's observation not only for this game but most games about over coaching. Kid's are not allowed to play, think, and adjust on their own. They turn the ball over because they are trying to run the play (which many times the opponent knows) because they are afraid the coach will pull them if they don't. After countless hours of practice if the kids can't make a trip down the floor once in awhile without a coaches input maybe the coach needs to re-evaluate his techniques.
