with about 30 seconds left in the game Cov. Cath was up by 1. Shot went up and on the rebound a intentional foul was called on Cooper( Very Contraversial ) both players had a hold of the ball and remind you it was very physical but the call was made Cov Cath made 1 of 2 and got the ball back . Cooper then fouled on the inbounds with about 20sec. and they missed the front end of the bonus and rebounded by Louis P Maniacci(34) and pussed down the middle of the floor by Tyler Morris (22) and kicked it out to A.J. Collins (31) and hit the 3 with 10 sec. then Morris tipped the ball on the 2 pass out to win the game .:dancingpa

Louis P. Maniacci is my favorite Jaguar. What a great name. :walk:

Congrats to the Jags! It's never easy to eliminate the host team from their own tournament.

Wow, that sounds like the game was clearly in the hands of the Colonels but the Jags persevered and Collins who is a good 3pt shooter hit a big one.

They will have their hands full with Scott though.

WOW! Had these 2 played in the Regular Season. I know Cooper has a good Fresh team, but CovCath had to be THE or one THE FAVORITES.

Congrats to Cooper! Besides the Varsity's first win ever........this just might be the biggest win in the history of Cooper HS???? CAN WE SAY THAT???

Who said they were the favorites??

Uh no, just a tournament win against another freshman team.

I wouldnt go that far. The teams in NKY this year were all capable of beating each other. Cooper has a strong team with a nice post player in Maniacci and Morris/Collins are nice guards. CovCath was probably the favorite to win the tournament but anything can happen.

Look at Highlands who had a great season and beat Holmes 2 weeks ago by 3pts and how they saw a different Bulldog team yesterday. A team that didnt commit stupid fouls and hit open shots. They ran their offense and were patient.

Scott lost to Holmes during the regular season by 23 points. I certainly wouldnt have expected that after seeing Scott, one of the #1 seeds in this tournament play yesterday.

Conner has a very nice ballclub as well. Many good teams in NKY at the frosh level this year and should be fun to watch them all over the next few years.

I think it was a great game to watch! Last time they played game went into over time. CC came back to win and was much like this one. Good game bye both teams. One thing did surprise me is that #4 of CC didnt play more or start, he is one of the best ball handlers ive seen at fresh level !

Congratulations to the Jags on a big freshman victory. Sounds like the cavalry is in route. Coach Sullivan will no doubt welcome the opportunity to even up with some teams who have had their way with his "expansion" program. Best of luck for continued success. :thumb:

Question...doesn't Maniacci start varsity? If so, why is he playing freshman ball?

Maniacci does not start varsity. He did start one game when the Jags were limited with two of there starters out vs Holmes. I think Coach Sullivan wanted to "throw him to the dogs" to get his young talented big man to experience playing against the best! I think he experienced this in full as Pittman posterized him on a fast break! Maniacci probably averages at best about 5 or 6 minutes a game at the varsity level.

From the KSHAA scoreboard Cooper HS Varsity Roster:

# Name Position Yr. # Name Position Yr.
4 Ryan Thompson GD Jr. 23 John Patrick Williams FWD So.
5 Asiel Langley GD Jr. 24 Dvontae Bradley GD Jr.
10 Chris Henderson GD So. 31 Austin Collins GD Fr.
12 Taylor Centers FWD Fr. 32 Matthew Storey GD, FWD Sr.
14 Ryan Klute GD Jr. 33 David Prescott GD, FWD So.
20 Cody Cook GD So. 40 Alex Webster GD So.
21 Brandon Knapmeyer GD So. 42 Alex Giesey FWD So.
22 Seth Quinlan FWD Jr. 44 Louis Maniacci FWD Fr.

"W" he hasn't started at least in the couple of games that I have seen but yes he does play/dress with the varsity as does Collins and Centers! He played against CovCath.

I know that Dixie, Holmes, Beechwood, CovCath, HHS and a couple of other teams won't allow a young freshmen to play freshmen ball, if he plays varsity and or even starts or plays a lot on the JV level.

Cooper is the only one that I am aware of that allows this!

No big deal, but I just hope that it won't affect a pretty much unwritten rule of the coaches to keep it frosh who play frosh only tourney.

I also understand the Cooper fan base. They have never won anything yet (they will sooner than later) but at the moment they get very excited about wining anything, even a freshmen game.

Good for them, but gee guy's, I guess you will understand one day why others look at you sort of strangely going nuts, about a frosh game!

Really sorry I only got to see the very, very end of the game due to being in Mason County.

If the kid is a freshman and doesn't start varsity I don't have a problem with him playing in this tourney. Coach is trying to build a program and building excitement at all levels is part of the plan. Winning against a good CCH team at their place builds excitement for the program and gets people talking. In addition, you build a sense of unity in the class of 2013.

Congrats to the Jags. Good things on the horizon.
