  1. How many teams are usually in the FTJFL per age group? 51 is a great turnout for a freshman team even at Highlands I would imagine. It's hard not to respect a program like Highlands. :thumb:
  2. When I think of a smashmouth team a few things come to mind: 1. Power set on offense- I formation, Power I, Wishbone, T formation, maybe even Wing-T. 2. Having a bread and butter run play (like an Off-tackle Power) that the coach doesn't care to call on 3rd and long or 4 & 5. 3. Maybe some option. 4. One old coach on the sideline that says everytime an incomplete pass is thrown, "Only 3 things can happen when you throw the ball and two of them are bad!" 5. Fans yelling "Pass the ball!!!" every time a run play only gets a yard or two. For colleges, Stanford under Harbaugh was about as smashmouth as it gets these days I think. It was pretty cool to watch, I hope the new coach continues that style of ball. If I had a team I would want them to be "bad" enough to run one or two run plays (power and counter-gt) all game. I'd want to even tell the defense which side we were running too .
  3. I do think population has something to do with the talent level. Texas, Florida, Ohio, California and Pennsylvania are all much bigger than Kentucky. Souther states have better weather, and I think being in better weather produces better athletes. I don't know if that is scientific or not, but I'm almost completely convinced that it plays some difference. I think heat and weather has to have something to do with muscle memory, flexibility, and a bunch of other factors. Maybe I'm just nuts though with that theory :thumb:.
  4. That's more of what I'm talking about. I do think that month is important for making the brand of football played in KY much better. Maybe everyone cannot be Trinity or Highlands, but every program in KY could continue to improve. I think that month could help with continuing to put a bigger emphasis on football in KY which would imrpove the product on the field alot. :thumb:
  5. Excellent explanation. I agree in the circumstance that no football team gets work in June that it won't make a difference as to who is better later. I thought you were saying that if team X works an extra month more than team Y it wouldn't have a difference. Maybe that is what you're saying as well? I wouldn't agree with that, but I can respect that point of view. :thumb:
  6. From West what? Carter? Not that I know of.
  7. Really? That's an interesting take. For the record I think taking away June from football was selfish on the part of KY basketball. It's just one of the reasons KY football will always struggle to continue to improve its overall product. Just my take.
  8. My intial reaction was this was crazy. But, if they want it I don't have a problem with it. What a school.
  9. Newton is a much more advanced passer than Vick was coming out of college IMO. Not saying he'll be as good or better than Vick, but as far as just throwing the football I think he's closer to what NFL teams would want than Vick was. However, MV has one of the best arms in the league and was a much better athlete than Newton IMO even though that seems crazy. Vick's the best athlete the NFL has ever seen as far as I'm concerned.
  10. Wouldn't this be hard to measure or even estimate? There are different amounts good teams in a class each year, and no team is the same from year to year. I guess maybe it could be said that Mayfield had the greatest disparity between how good they were compared to everyone else in 1A, but I would to try to rank dominance especially from decade to decade. That said the only teams I keep track of in 1A are the two in NEKY in Fairview and Raceland.
  11. I'd remove 2 from Boyd and put Burns and Lawson in. JMO
  12. West Carter has a certified trainer. She is at most if not all football practices, and games for almost every sport unless there are two games at once. In the past WC trainers have went with the team that was going somewhere that did not have a trainer if there were two games at once.
  13. Burns would be in my top 10. And if Derek Lawson from West doesn't get mentioned at least I can't take the list seriously. Kid is a double-double machine when he walks on the floor. Most underrated player in the region and a huge part of WC's success last year as a top 4 team in the region. Him and Brown may be just about all WC has returning but they will keep them competitive.
  14. What does/did Coach Stephens teach there? I saw where they have a Social Studies opening but if that was his job I'm not even send I might not even send in an application because they will probably fill it with a head coach or try to I would imagine.
  15. I'm aware of Piike's past, I just don't want this to turn into another slamfest of a gifted high school athlete.
  16. Oh no.... We would need another thread for that and probably another message board. That one always gets rough. Can't we all just agree that both are high major QBs being recruited by a ton of programs? Any program in the state would be thrilled to have someone as talented as either player.
  17. Yikes. Thrown out in 7-on-7? Never heard of that one.
  18. I had a chance to talk to Gerad's wife this week, they seem really excited about this job. He's really moving up in the coaching ranks really quickly and working with a respected guy like Doc Holliday can only help. I would love to see Coach Parker work his way up to becoming a head coach if that's his goal. Thanks for sharing the article.
  19. I was hoping he'd go there. I'm hoping alot more guys from KY can go to Marshall now that Coach Parker is there.
  20. What about some type of off-season competition? Breaking guys down into teams (maybe captains can pick?) and having multiple things they can earn points for. The payoff would be a team dinner at the end of camp-week (or another time). Winners get steak & potatoes, everyone else gets hot-dogs & hamburgers. Winners get to drink water first until camp week is over, stuff like that. Maybe weightlifting could be the biggest part, but I also thought of maybe 40 times, shuttle times, off-season camp participation points, community service (maybe like a team cleanup of a road, points for for much trash each team collects). If your team was not successful last season, what about pulling up random scores & stats from the games. A whole off-season cannot be focused on one or two opponents, but some focus on a rival team they lost to may help some with motivation to come to weight lifting and put in work. I would try to make it to where players forgot about skipping weightlifting because they didn't want to work, and instead focused on coming to weightlifting because of the payoff during the season and the fact they don't want to let their teammates down. Weightlifting class would be great, but every school will not go for that. It would be great if they would though . I think every school should have atleast a 40 minute period at the end of the day where students get to do something extra-curricular, be it sports, band, drama, or just use the computers to research.
  21. No doubt. I expect for Pike to be a 5 Star on Rivals and a 4 star on ESPN.
  22. Sorry, they have Pike as a 5 star on there and not a 4.
  23. BTW, Scout just put out their first 2012 rankings. Pike came in as a 4 star & the #3 QB in the class overall. But, they have only given out a handful of 5 stars right now, so this kid could easily get one on their site if he has a good summer. Pretty cool.
