  1. Blake would do a great job I'm sure if offered. With his connections to Conner and Coach Stamm it could really heat up the Cooper/Conner rivalry.
  2. I'm taking the under. I think with some of the talent in the minors (Rizzo, Jackson) there are some bright spots. I have a feeling that we will be seeing a very young Cubs team by July. I also don't expect Soriano to make it the whole season with the Cubs trading him and then eating a majority of whats left of his huge contract.
  3. From what I heard there were a couple reasons. 1. Money. and it was a significant amount due to him being AD at Cooper. 2. The Cooper program has been his since the school was built and it finally turned the corner after last season so he is personally invested in the program. and this is JMO but I also think he was smart to stay at Cooper. The kids like him and the rest of the staff, and they could be on the verge of something special there. This is a team that is growing and the recent success is going to do nothing but help out.
  4. Surprised no one has mentioned Cooper as one of the top defensive teams. Last year gave up 16.9 ppg which was 4th best in 5A for the state as well as allowing 1200 yards rushing for the year which was 4th best in 5A. They lost 3 defensive starters in Blau, Williams, and Branch but return almost everyone else including Centers who was a beast on the d-line last year. I expect another good year for the Cooper defense.
  5. Boise doesn't deserve a BCS bid soley on the fact that they have that awful blue turf.
  6. Oh I completely agree with what you said and I was not putting down anything Clyde said. I was simply stating that in todays world, kids don't want to work as hard and it's just the way that things are now. Kids are fine playing madden and staying inside rather than actually playing football. I definitely agree with what I bolded. What I am trying to say though is that when you come in everyday and do let's say 15 gassers and you have done that everyday for 2 months, the kids know what is expected, yet you can still have parents complain about it being too tough. Football is a tough, physcial sport and it takes tough, physical kids to play the sport. It's like I said earlier, if it were easy you'd have 200 kids on a team. Now I know there are a lot of parents out there who never say a word so I don't want to make it look like I am saying this about every parent. It's just at every school there are parents who think that their child is entitled to everything without doing anything and that simply is not the case. Really not disagreeing with anyone, just pointing out some things that I think for the most part anyone who follows sports know.
  7. I realize you're not a parent and you were just asking a question. I just went on a little venting session. You are right though, times have defintely changed. It doesn't always mean for the better though.
  8. Here lies a problem today. When I played football, I was always told that out of all the sports it was the one that related to real life the most. In real life, people are mean, people have to learn to fend for themselves. Life is going to knock you down every single day and it is up to you to make a choice. You can either stay on the ground and feel sorry for yourself or you can pick yourself up, work harder, and beat the guy across from you. Unfortunatley living in the Mr. Rogers era that we do, a lot of children are raised to think that everything should be given to them. Kids aren't allowed to fail in school anymore because it can hurt self-esteem. Kids can't get disciplined by teachers if they are disrupting class because parents will go to the board and complain. I have read a couple of Lou Holtz books and the one quote he said that really stuck out to me was somewhere along the times people have learned to feel entitled to everything without working for it. So true of life today. Kids show up and expect to get playing time but don't put the work in at practice. Crazy! Then you have parents complain because they see Jimmy isn't playing but they don't see that he isn't working hard, or taking time to understand his position better. In the real world if your boss asks you to put together a project and you don't do you really think you're still going to have a job? When these kids get to college and the professor wants a 5 page paper and the student decides to not finish or turn in the paper is the professor going to give an extension because mommy and daddy asked for it? No. They don't care. I know I may have rambled a little or a lot and I'm not saying that what you are saying isn't right. What I am saying though is what kind of example would a coach be setting if they weren't asking the athletes to give their best effort all the time? Kids are going to quit. That's part of sports. If it were easy there would be 200 people on the team. Hard work and dedication makes you a stronger individual. When parents ask to have coaches lighten it up, it kills me. Kids are not being prepared for real life anymore and it's a shame. It's also the reason our country is declining compared to other countries in the world. They work harder so they get more perks.
  9. See every football team at every school since the start of time. Parents are always unhappy.
  10. If i'm spending $300 dollars on headphones I'm going with Bose.
  11. How does this make you hate football. the guy is making football more exciting. Every week people want to see if he can do it again and he continues to do it. I'm amazed. He is bringing a different kind of excitement to the NFL and the guy is a great role model for younger kids to look up to. How can you say that he hasn't won against a real team. This isn't pop warner ball, this is the NFL. Every team is a real team. The Bears defense is notorious for shutting down running QBs and that's what they did. He led his team back against a good Jets defense. When the defense sucks, he elevates his game and when he isn't playing well, the rest of the team picks it up. I am absolutely amazed seeing as I thought that he was going to be average at best.
  12. I agree. Everything always goes back to the NBA with him too. He tried to compare Tebow to Iverson. Come on... really?
  13. Orton threw 9 TD's and 13 INT's his first year in Chicago. The defense is what saved that team. They did go 10-5 that year but it wasn't Orton leading the team back. Tebow has done something that Orton cannot do. Avoid turning the ball over. What impressed me the most was the fact that he did it against a really good Jets defense.
  14. I think everyone in the nation called this one after he left Florida...
  15. Under that criteria you back up Coach Borchers and Coach Siple. Cooper was picked to finish 3rd in NKY 5A. They swept the district. With wins over Campbell County and Dixie, Cooper showed this year that they can finally play with the big schools as well as beat them. By winning the district they also clinched the schools first ever playoff game... and a home one at that. While Cooper may have lost in the first round I still believe Borchers deserves the COY in NKY due to the fact that he played tougher competition, won the district, and hosted a playoff game in the schools 4th year of existence. Now I don't know as much about Bracken's story but I do know that Bracken has been.. let's face it.. terrible since they have played football. This year they went 6-4 also I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). They made the playoffs also and made great improvements. I think either of these coaches are qualified to win COY but I still say Borchers should get it.
  16. Anyone know when they are going to start interviewing. I would assume someone wouldn't be named until January/February but I could be very wrong.
  17. It would make sense. The AD at Dixie now is the old AD at Cooper. I believe Dixie is a lot closer to where Coach Borchers lives as well. Who knows though.. only time will tell.
  18. Beechwood wins 63-0. I clicked Ludlow in the poll but I meant B-Wood.
  19. If this is true, could Cooper possibly pursue something since the activities occurred on their facility?
  20. Morris had 204 Total yards, 4 rushing TDs. Pike had I think around 130 passing and 90 rushing with TD's (one air, one ground) and 3 picks. Not sure what Collins for Cooper had rushing but he did pick off a pass and return it around 45 yards for a TD.
  21. I would say Borchers. Started the program from scratch, and when the season started off tough for the Jags, he kept them believing and they took the #1 seed in 5A while also knocking off 6A schools in Dixie and Campbell. Cooper is no longer a gimme when other teams schedule them.
  22. HC wouldn't bet Cooper if they played again. Cooper's D has Improved and their offense has really stepped it up as of late. To say HC would win 5a is a stretch. I think they'd compete for 3rd.
  23. It's a shame he was hurt but glad to hear that it's nothing too serious.
