  1. The 04 team was very good. This years team is loaded and is surely a contender for the crown. Cashen and Coach Farris' O will be lethal this year, most of the defense is back and should feel more comfortable in it. Forbidding injuries, Corbin should be there in the end.
  2. 76, This is just one of many examples. Public opinion is that we have resorted to dodging opponents, not something to be proud of. It doesn't bother me that you think my opinion is funny and in left field. Alot of others around here must be in left field with me. I respect your opinion on the on the issue, and will not make fun of it. The good news is we do have Belfry on the schedule, but thats 2 hours farther than Log Mountain.
  3. If there was a good reason, why dont you share it with us? If its something else, please tell because it is a shame to think your coach is backing down from a game like that when you know he is a good enough coach with enough talent to beat Bell. Why run away now? You are right, times have changed but thats no excuse to change the expectations for your program. There is no reason why Corbin can't be best football team in this area. We have the talent, the facilities and the support to make it go. Just because this isn't 1980 doesn't mean we can't be successful program anymore. Good coaches adapt to the kids and get the most out of them.
  4. You've told us a thousand times on this board that you played for Corbin, and I know you worked just as any other Corbin athlete, but working hard and understanding things are two different objects. Anyone thinking that Corbin/Bell isn't very important, doesn't know what Corbin football is about.
  5. Using your logic, I guess all the predistrict games we play are a waste of time. Maybe Coach needs to cancel all the out of district games since they are not in line with the goal in mind. They may seem unimportant to you, but we've only won 1 out of the last 9. Thats important and alarming to me. Ask any former Redhound what beating Bell County means to them. It means a great deal to them. Playing and beating Bell County is a big part of preparing for a run to Louisville. It is a tough early test, and it pays off down the road. A close loss to Bell would serve our team more lessons than blowing out Lex. Christian anyday. This is about two great teams and 4 great quarters of the best Mountain Football you'll ever see. Its not about a state title, its about PRIDE. Do you know anything about that? I guess you really didn't care if you beat Bell or not, since it had nothing to do with a state title?
  6. Corbin will be fine next year, no one said they would not be fine. He has yet another state championship caliber team on his hands. This has nothing to do with how the team will do next year. This is about a coach who dropped his teams best rivalry game, without thinking of shame he brought to the Corbin team, and Corbin community. I'm aware that he was a part of what made the Corbin football tradition, but sometimes I wonder if he fell asleep during the lessons. Corbin football "today" is not the same Corbin football that made it famous. We don't dominate the area like we used to. I'd like to see us restake our claim as Southeast Kentucky's premier football program, but dropping Bell County was not a step in that direction.
  7. As a supporter of the Corbin program, I'd like this to be heard loud and clear: This is NOT Steve Jewells team, this is CORBINS team, period. It belongs to a community deeply rooted in football tradition, and Corbin football will exist long after Steve Jewell is no longer coach. Coach Jewell was put there to continue to build the tradition that is Corbin football. He is NOT Corbin football, and this is NOT "his" team. That train of thought is very much his problem. Living in this town are several ex coaches, former players, fans, ect. who paid the price to build the Corbin program into a yearly 2A contender. This was happening before Steve Jewell was in Corbin, and probably before he was born. Very much a part of the tradition are the rivals we play. Among them, Middlesboro, South Laurel (in recent years), and of course the biggest, Bell County. Most of the community, at some point in history, are directly involved in these rivalries either by playing, cheering, or simply coming out to support the team. Other than a few posters from Corbin on here, I cannot find a Corbin fan who supports the decison to drop Bell. By dropping this rivalry Steve Jewell is throwing away 50 years worth of blood, sweat and tears from thousands of Corbin Alumni. The Coach wasn't thinking about those folks when he dropped Bell, he was only thinking about himself and how Dudley has been smacking him around in the last few meetings. I would venture to say thats the main reason people like Coach T and the Math Man are so upset. Jewell is not preserving the proud tradition of Corbin by dropping the #1 rival we have. Talk to any Redhound fan in this town, Bell County is a game the players AND entire town looks forward to each year. If you could have looked down main street the week before the Bell game last year, you would have seen several businesses whose windows were clad in Redhound spirit, with red and white paw prints all around. Steve Jewell took an exciting part of Redhound football away from this community. While we will go on supporting these kids, and this program. We do not have to agree with everything the Coach does, simply because the team really does not belong to him, it belongs to us all.

We do not have to agree with everything the Coach does, simply because the team really does not belong to him, it belongs to this town, and those who helped build it. If we stay quiet when bad things happen to the program, then we too are responsible for the programs suffering just as much as Coach Jewell.
  9. OK, True Redhound. You seem to know all the reasons behind Jewells decisions, so tell us exactly why he refuses to play Bell County, and why everyone in the program should support that decision??
  10. If South Laurel beats us for many more years in a row, I suspect they will be next to get the ax from the schedule. Dropping Bell County is pitiful; it is a huge embarassment to the Redhound community.
  11. In terms of district play, it is definetly i step up, but who we play in district is beyond our control. In defense of Coach Jewell, he usually complies one of the tougher non district schedules in all of 2 A football. So the non district schedule is typical of any other year--very tough. However, I am still upset that we dropped traditional rival Bell County to play either of the Jessamines???
  12. The run defense is pretty solid when we tackle correctly. Had trouble defending the pass at times. Middlesboro made us look like a joke, but there have been flashes of excellence out of this defense (Rockcastle couldn't score on them) This isn't the best (or most experienced) Corbin team we have put in the playoffs, but they do play hard and hugary, the offense with Cashen at QB is good enough to keep us in games when Coach Farris gets some execution (Blocking) up front. It will be interesting to see what happens. Russell looks BIG up front.
  13. After reviewing each teams records, it is obvious that this game is Russell's to lose. However, I see Corbin making a serious game of this. The early season struggles could pay major dividends in November.
  14. So this would be like letting Ft. Thomas Highlands drop down and compete in single A? Wow.
  15. On the seasons, Wayne, Casey and Garrard's combined record is 11 wins vs. 21 losses. Corbin's non district opponents have a record of 45 wins and 30 losses, with two of Corbin's losses coming to Oldham County who has 2 wins and 8 losses, South Laurel having 3 wins and 7 losses. Bell, Rock, Middlesboro and Lexington Christian have at least 9 wins each. The point being the defense should look better since the last 4 games we have beaten teams who (with the exception of 7 and 4 Wayne County) is very sup-par to the rest of Corbin's schedule.
  16. In my opinion, there are two tests to every season. The regular season has been somewhat dissapointing. However, I totally expect these early season dissapointments to help the Hounds make a good run in the playoffs. That would help to smooth things out here in Corbin. We will see very soon. From a fans perspective, I did not expect us to drop Bell County from the schedule. The rest of the Redhound community may be fine with that decision, but it sticks in my crawl. I never would have imagined Coach Jewell backing down from Bell County. That I did not expect.
  17. You are right, very poor. At least next year we will be in a real district with some competition. I think this district has hurt the Hounds more than it helped over the years.
  18. This possible matchup is way too many weeks away to worry about, in my opinion. No gaurantees that Corbin OR Russell will advance to matchup.
  19. Glad to see a Duncum get some playing time at QB. His father was a hard noesed player as well, and the next four years will be an exciting time for both of them. I agree Fritz looks good. I say let him touch it more often.
  20. I would like to see Corbin put the red stripe back down the center of the helmets.
  21. Chant, your message is inspirational and you make your points well. I would like to further discuss a few points you have made: True these are the same coaches who took a team to the state finals. However, I didn't feel like great coaching was the biggest reason that landed the 02 Redhounds in Louisville. I thought it had to do with a Stud in the backfield, supported by some kids who played thier guts out in the post season. If you will remember, weather played into our favor each week, as sloppy fields neutralized a very fast Bardstown and Larue Co. team. Everything fell into place until we got to Cardinal Stadium. Notice I didn't say the coaching was bad. It was in fact solid. just nothing extraordinary in my mind. Also true that these coaches are doing nothing different now than when they were winning 10 ballgames. After 2 regular seasons barely floating at .500, isn't it time to look for a better way? The last point I want to make concerns moral victories. Yes we were 6 points from being an 8 win team, but what does that matter? A loss is a loss! For the Corbin Redhounds I know, that has never been a accepted measure of performance. I surely hope this isn't how we are beginning to measure success in our football program. Like you said before, state titles should always be the goal.
