3rd Region Week 5 Review

1. Ohio County Eagles (12-2) SAME

The Eagles spent their weekend at Louisville Eastern, going 2-1 overall. They scored overtime wins over Atherton and Lafayette, while losing a close one to Eastern. Trip Manning led the Eagles to the win over Atherton with 3 3's in the overtime period to finish with 31 points. The Eagles have 2 big games this week at home vs Owensboro and Mclean County this week.

 

2. Breckenridge County Tigers (8-3) SAME

The Tigers dropped a tough overtime game to Fairdale to open last week, in their final game in Daytona Beach but bounced back with a blowout win over Grayson County. Kaveon Mitchell is among the top scorers in the Region with 22 points per game. The Tigers host Butler County on Tuesday before Cloverport comes to Harned on Friday.

 

3. Owensboro Red Devils (9-6) SAME

The Devils have struggled to find an identity over the past few weeks but have still played the toughest schedule inside the region. They lost to undefeated E-Town on Saturday without big man Gavin Wimsatt, who was out sick. OHS did score a big district win over Apollo, after struggling early. The Devils hold the three spot this week but will need to show something on the road against Ohio County and Owensboro Catholic on Friday.

 

4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (8-5) UP 1

The Aces have reeled off 3 straight wins after returning home from Holiday Tournaments. They went 2-0 in All-A play this week with big wins over Mclean County and Edmonson County. Sophomores Brian Griffith (17 ppg) and Jai Webb (14 ppg) continue to lead the way for Catholic. They will play Trinity for the All-A Championship on Tuesday before hosting Owensboro in a 9th District showdown on Friday.

 

5. Butler County Bears (9-1) SAME

The Bears lost their first game of the season this past week, at the hands of Boyle County by 15. They did bounce back with a hard fought win over Metcalfe County to close the week. Big man Parker Rice is nearly averaging a double double through the first 10 games with 21 points per game and 9 boards per game. The Bears travel to Breckenridge County Tuesday for a big regional show down before returning home for an 11th District game against Grayson County. On Saturday they host Evangel Christian.

 

6. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (5-8) SAME

While the Mustangs have lost 6 straight games, they have played much better competition than the teams below them in the rankings. They dropped a close game to Frankin Simpson on Saturday. The Stangs will look to get a win this week as they continue their tough schedule against Grayson County, Henderson County and Bowling Green.

 

7. McLean County Cougars (9-4) SAME

The Cougars dropped their lone game of the week, a 16 point loss in the All-A Classic to Owensboro Catholic. Logan Patterson is still averaging a double double for the Cougars with 20 points and 10 boards per game. The Cougars travel to Ohio County looking to avoid an 0-2 start in district play.

 

8. Grayson County Cougars (4-9) SAME

The Cougars had a tough week, with lopsided losses at the hands of Breckenridge County and Central Hardin. Nolan Shartzer continues to lead the Cougars with 16 points per game. They have a tough week as they travel to Muhlenberg County and Butler County this week.

 

9. Daviess County Panthers (5-8) SAME

The Panthers were off this week. They have games this week against Logan County, Apollo and Russell County.

 

10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-8) UP 2

The Raiders got 2 big All-A wins over Cloverport and Hancock County this week. Landon Hall had a big game in the win over Hancock County, with 20 points. The Raiders will play for the All-A Regional Championship this week as they face the Owensboro Catholic Aces.

 

11. Meade County Greenwave (4-6) DOWN 1

The Waves went 1-1 this week, getting a tight win over Bullet Central before dropping a game against Floyd Central. Decker Cannon led the way in the win with 13 points. Meade travels to Apollo Tuesday before returning home with a District game against Hancock County.

 

12. Hancock County Hornets (4-8) DOWN 1

The Hornets dropped their only game this week, the All-A regional Semi-Final to Whitesville Trinity. They will look to get back on track this week with games against Meade County and Tell City.

 

13. Apollo Eagles (1-12) UP 1

The Eagles finally got a win this week, a blowout against Dawson Springs. Harrison Bowman scored 20 plus in the win. They fought Owensboro for 3 quarters before getting blown out in the final frame. Apollo has games against Meade County, Daviess County and Dawson Springs this week.

 

14. Edmonson County Wildcats (3-10) DOWN 1

Edmonson dropped their only game of the week in the All-A Regional Semi Finals against Owensboro Catholic. They travel to Russellville this week.

 

15. Cloverport Aces (1-9) SAME

The Aces dropped their lone game this week, to Whitesville Trinity in the opening round of the All-A Regional Tournament. They travel to Walden and Breckenridge County this week.
