Cooper 19 Newport 4

A very cold evening for baseball but it was good to see the boys on the field for the first time this year after both scrimmages were rained out.

Phillips started for Cooper and went 2 innings. Bjurquist followed with 2 innings and Brownfield threw 1. The defense was solid and everyone seemed to contribute offensively and they were helped by several walks, errors and hit batsmen from Newport.

Newport scored one in the first on 4 straight walks after two were out. I thought several pitches were very close and the ump seemed to widen the strike zone after the first just a bit and did a nice job. The other three runs were scored in the fifth.

Next up for the Jag's is at Conner on Saturday.
