I have not been to the Blue Oven but my wife and I do go to Findlay so we'll check it out.

January 30, 201214 yr The food was so much better years ago when grandma made the food, now you can tell most of it is canned crap. Really gone downhill. Grandma Pompilio was the best. Worked there for several years in high school busing dishes as a summer and weekend job. When I first started, I didn't like Italian food and ordered American dishes (eating whatever and whenever you wanted for free was a job perk). Grandma Pompilio would chase me around the kitchen with a butcher knife, chewing me out in Italian, when I did so. I learned to like Italian food. No doubt that some things changed when the Pompilio family sold the restaurant years ago. While there may be Pompilios living in Independence, since the Pompilio family doesn't own the restaurant, I question whether there is any connection. Perhaps there is, but I wouldn't think so. Whenever I eat at Pomps, it brings back great memories: Jeanette, one of the cooks, was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met; Shirley and Pat were great waitresses (although Pat could be grumpy at times); another waitress (Vicky) was married to a minor league baseball player (she bought some of us beer and put in it the pantry closet to drink late one night towards the end of a 5-2 shift); Matt Pompilio (one of the owners and the father of my friend Doug Pompilio) with his dirty jokes; and of course Grandma Pompilio. Good times.
January 30, 201214 yr Never been but havev always wanted too go. whats some good dishes they have? I believe their Lasagna is one of the favorites. I am not a big lasagna fan. My favorite is the meat filled Tortellini. Their Antipasto is also very good.
January 31, 201214 yr Veal!!! They serve a great veal scallopini on a bed of fettucini with a light caper sauce. Bon Appitite!!!! Veal entrees are hard to find these days. Some posters above refer to chicken dishes and some "Italian" places only serve chicken. Miami Florida has the best Italian restaurants and the best veal entrees, but when here in NoKy, Pompilios works for me.

January 31, 201214 yr They always had business even with BW3's right there. The owners are moving to Florida from what I have heard. No mention of Buffalo Bob's owners moving to Florida in the article that Kentonman posted. It says "Buffalo Bob’s owner Bill Crawford said his Independence restaurant would be closed Monday, Jan. 30, and would 'just stay closed' if the paperwork went through. He said the other Buffalo Bob’s location on Mt. Zion Road in Florence would remain open." Sounds more to me like it wasn't doing the business he wanted it to. I've always like Buffalo Bob's...especially the locally owned and operated aspect of it. But if you compare the regular (not crowds from the (former) Independence location to the location off Mt. Zion, it's apparent that the business wasn't the same between the two locations.

February 1, 201214 yr I grew up playing baseball w/ Larry and going on family trips w/ him. He loves Pompilio's and what it stands for. I am very excited that he worked his way into the position that he is right now. I really hope that it continues to grow.

Love Lasagna I'm excited. Girlfriend is from Campbell County and her family always ate in Newport/Dayton area growing up. I don't think she knows they're opening up a location in Independence but I'm looking forward to getting to take her.
