Madison Central 78 Trinity 77

This is what the coaches had to say:

As for the last whistle that put Taylor on the line, Feldhaus said, "I won't say a word. Believe me, I've had those go against me, so we deserve to get one once in a while."

Trinity Coach Mike Szabo said his team made "some poor decisions offensively and defensively at the end to put ourselves in a situation for the referees to take it from us, so that's our fault.

"But I don't know what those (referees) were thinking. That's on them. That's just nuts to do that to kids who are trying so hard.

"That's just unfair."

I always give the coaches a break when they're interviewed right after a tough loss.

What Coach Szabo didn't address was the issue of it being a correct call or not.

Think he did when he said it was unfair.

Think he did when he said it was unfair.

Maybe. Maybe not. He could have been saying "you don't call a foul with .1 left."

Not IMO.

Let's face reality. If you are from Louisville playing out in the state, or at Rupp when it counts, you will get no breaks and cannot allow the refs to have a chance to be involved in the game. And as Szabo said, and I've never heard him make such a declarative stement about the refs before, that's not fair to the kids when a ref makes a call that determines the outcome of a game. The kid would have had to tackle the player in college for that to be called and I seriously doubt that was what happened!

That being said, you have to congratulate Madison Central for a great effort!

Sounds like Trinity good a trial run for the refereeing they would face if they get to Rupp. How do you call an off the ball foul with no time on the clock???

There was time on the clock and a foul is the same whether its in the first qtr or last. Sounds like you aren't happy your team lost.

^ The long string of posts above yours indicate it was a questionable (at best) call. Heck even Central's coach alluded to it hilarity.

As throughout most of society when there is failure to do something, in this case win a ball game, it is always through the fault of someone else. Continues to be a sad commentary that is obviously perpetuated through sports.

With .1 left, probably even a conventional tip would take too long if the timekeeper is alert. About the only thing a player could do is hit the ball with his fingertip. As Coach Szabo said, Trinity should not have put themselves in such a position to lose it like that. Time to move on and get better.

Since you really don't know me....you wouldn't know that I am one of the biggest advocates of saying a referee won or lost a game, for a team. They do, however impact the game. The below quote, is from a player on the WINNING team, the player that got fouled. Let me ask you, did this quote read as if he thought he got fouled? Trinity very well may have lost in OT, no shame in that. People who were at the game said, it was clear the officials weren't going to let the game go to OT. They still had another to play.

I thought we were going to overtime. I didn’t know what the whistle was for until I turned around. (After missing the first one). I just took my time on the second free throw, shot it and it went in.

Let's not blame the officiating on the outcome....

Where is the 13th region? What counties make up that region?

13th region officials at their finnest.
Perry Central and Letcher Central are from the 14th region.....and the officiating there is very good.....
