I'm just glad that Knight is no longer the record holder. I respect Coack K a great deal.

That is where I am. Of all the record holders I am glad to see this one fall just because of Knight. Coach K is twice the person Knight will ever be.

It seemed to me that Knight tried to downplay being passed by saying his main goal was to be the first to 900. Bobby, nobody's going to remember that in 20 years.

I've wondered if the NCAA didn't punish Coach K over Maggette to help him pass Knight sooner. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the NCAA wanted to ensure that knight wasn't the NCAA all time wins leader, especially if you look at who was NCAA president in 2004 or so when all the Maggette stuff became common knowledge and was testified to in court.

I think that is a bit far-reaching; but, with the shadiness of the NCAA it is certainly plausible.

It's not going to take 20 years. I give it 4, when Coach K passes 1,000. After that no one is going to care who was the first to 900, not sure many care now.

I still don't understand why Coach K employs the slow down offense with 8 minutes left in the game with a double digit lead. I also can't understand why no Duke teams can ever run it effectively. Drives me insane. Why not just keep running the regular offense until there are 2-3 minutes left? They let teams back in the game all of the time.

 

Were on the same page man. It kills me too when the announcers always say that Duke runs that spread offense and slow tempo game the best. Everytime it makes me feel like its giving the opposing team a chance to get back in. Oh well I guess. Onto OSU!

I don't care what team you cheer for, this a a magnificent achievement in college basketball. Coach K passes his mentor Bob Knight for the all time wins records. 2 of the greatest coaches in college basketball. Both had extremely high graduation rates, coached their players to be outstanding citizens and quality young men. The have taught them values about family and commitment. Coach K has the opportunity to extend his record to over 1,000 victories. A mark that will never again be acheived!

Congrats to Coach K. Now let me defend Coach Knight by saying that he won an NCAA championship as a player too.

 

Different coaches for differrent era's. Coach Knight was developed in a time when the USA was number 1 and proud of it. Coach K. is a winner to be sure, but you like him because his image is cleaner. never be sure of these things. Check the reputation of Joe Paterno and watch how this changes over the next few weeks and months....

According to some Twitter people I follow, there was a noticeable applause when K finally left the court.

I think that is what they were talking about as well. I am with you that I too was over it. Not to take anything away from K, very deserving. ESPN just goes overboard with everything!

 

They definitely went overboard. Bilas and the gang were saying the same things over and over last night. ESPN's been building this for weeks, and not to take anything away from K's accomplishment, I feel the same with this as I do with the past election commercials----I'm glad it's over!

I wonder what kind of allegations are going to come out about Duke now.

Coach K appears to be a 1st class guy that deserves everything he's accomplished. I did feel that ESPN went a little overboard in their coverage of it (I liked the montage's and player comments however). I also didn’t care for Coach K's comments about the "basketball gods" making that night special, I know it's just a figure of speech, but I hate it when a Christian gives credit to gods instead of The God, his God. Like I said I know it was just a comment in the moment but it is a pet peeve of mine.

Great honor and well deserved. Glad to see him hold the record.
