Coach K Becomes Men's D1 Coaching Wins Leader

Featured Replies

Takes home #903 with a victory over Michigan State. Great coach and man, very deserving.

One of my friends put on FB in regards to the post game antics with him and Bobby Knight "Well that was touching in a Sandusky kind of way, now on with the show. C-A-T-S"...too soon but gotta love the hatred UK fans have for Duke

I've never been a big Bobby Knight guy so I'm glad Coach K now has the record. He's good for the game.

K is the best in the business. Congrats to him on the milestone.

Got scared there at the end of the game. Glad they pulled through. I think a lot of pressure has came off Duke now.

congrats to Coach K!

I do have a question. The one thing I found slanted was the constant ref to: This has never happened. A pupil passing his mentor for all time wins.

Really? If I remember correctly, Rupp became all times win leader by passing Phog Allen, his mentor from Kansas!

Ironically the very two teams on the court Dickie V!

I guess since it did not happen during ESPN era it didn't happen.

congrats to Coach K!

I was thinking they were meaning that the mentor was there to see the pupil pass him but I honestly got so tired of hearing about it that I wasn't paying attention.

I still don't understand why Coach K employs the slow down offense with 8 minutes left in the game with a double digit lead. I also can't understand why no Duke teams can ever run it effectively. Drives me insane. Why not just keep running the regular offense until there are 2-3 minutes left? They let teams back in the game all of the time.

I think that is what they were talking about as well. I am with you that I too was over it. Not to take anything away from K, very deserving. ESPN just goes overboard with everything!

When a Duke fan is tired of hearing about it then yeah, it's too much.

It was pretty cool seeing all the former Dukies there to see Coach K win. I am glad he got it in on the first try. And not just because ESPN would have gone doubly overboard with the coverage until he got it.

I loved the 903 and Kounting signs also.

I don't care what team you cheer for, this a a magnificent achievement in college basketball. Coach K passes his mentor Bob Knight for the all time wins records. 2 of the greatest coaches in college basketball. Both had extremely high graduation rates, coached their players to be outstanding citizens and quality young men. The have taught them values about family and commitment. Coach K has the opportunity to extend his record to over 1,000 victories. A mark that will never again be acheived!

Congrats to Coach K and the Duke program!!

I'm just glad that Knight is no longer the record holder. I respect Coack K a great deal.

I have the same sentiments as many of you. Glad that Coack K passed up Bobby Knight.

What was the UK fan reaction after he won at MSG? I couldn't tell.
