Don't let your hatred not let you see how good of a job he did this postseason. Besides the phone incident he was great during the post season.

That's a matter of opinion and I respectb yours as well :thumb:. I think that he constantly had people in the wrong positions but he knows and has forgotten far more baseball than I or probably anyone on here will ever know about the game.

I think that that he knew that he was slipping badly and got out at the right time. My hatred of LaRussa doesn't interefere wth my opinon of him as a manager, he no doubt is has been and will go down as one of the best.

Larussa, imo is just a self centered, hypocritical jerk. He goes on about the honoring the game and was the manager a Oakland with Conseco, McGuire and all the steroid stuff's beginning. then he brings McGuire to St. Louis as well. No one will convince me that he didn't know about all th jucing going on and obviously condoned it. NO, at the time it wasn't illegal but he goes on about integrty of the game and that imo is a joke.

^ A friend of mine said it looked like he had some trouble remembering things that had just happened as he was giving press conferences during the playoffs. Any chance we find out down the road that this could be health related?

I had thought the same thing, it certainly wouldn't suprise me at all.

Found it interesting to listen to the radio pundits talk about how we could have been one strike away from some people saying that Larussa was stepping down because he had "lost it".

Not too surprised he's retiring, this past season had to have really worn him out. He's what 69 or 70 and these past few months as exciting as they've been for the Cardinal's had to have been almost eaqually as stressful.

Loved or hated, he accomplished what few have and for that I am forever greatful. I am certain I will never get to experience anything like what I witnessed this year. As a Cardinals fan that is only casual with baseball. I listen to their games almost daily as I am in and out of the car due to the local stations covering the Cards as this is Cardinals Country much like NKY is Reds Country but its not until about the last 4 or 5 weeks of the season that I begin to really take interest. This year I could not have picked a better time. Happy trails Tony, I hope you enjoy whatever you do next in life and thanks it was a great ride.

I keep thinking about how LaRussa went through that entire run knowing it was his last, but outside of Mo, no one else knew. Must of made it that much more special.

 

As for who takes over, I was reading about Joe Maddon and how he grew up a huge Cardinals fan. I think he would be perfect.

Hate to see LaRussa leave. IMO he is a great manager. I personally feel that Jose Oquendo, or I've also heard another former player Terry Pendelton name thrown around. But I am also hearing Francona also. But just have to wait and see. But I know one guy I wouldn't like there is Dusty Baker, Cincy fans you can keep him but no thanks.

I agree with you on LaRussa's record and his possible working as a commentaor.....Oh plesse no Larussa!! That would be a time when I wouldn't watch the game or mute the sound. I get sick enough listening to Joe Mogan (loved him as a player, his announcing/commentary made me sick) and also Buck and McCarver are imo pretty bad. Buck makes a name from his father's work and McCarver is "just happy to be there",lol. He reminds me of maybe some old uncle at a famly reunion or holiday dinner. He rambles on, can't get anything right and just keeps talking of "in his day", lol. McCarver was an excellent catcher but I thnk that he took too many foul balls to the head during his time. Buck doesn't know any better and agrees with him. Buck just has a good voice, that's it.
