October 31, 201114 yr Don't let your hatred not let you see how good of a job he did this postseason. Besides the phone incident he was great during the post season. By the way, you can keep DUSTY. I'm still trying to think of any other moves that I could even consider questioning, let along bash....
October 31, 201114 yr Author If they go from within, I hope it's Big Mac, not Jose Oquendo or Pettini. Really nothing to back that up, just my gut.
October 31, 201114 yr He doesn't seem like a dude I'd like hanging with but he has had a HOF career. Reds fans can hold onto 1990 for their "Yeah Baby You Suck, LaRussa" moment.
October 31, 201114 yr Announcing it at a press conference right now. I'm shocked.... Can't imagine this helps bringing Pujols back. Pujols is going for the money. If the Cardinals pay up, he'll be back ... LaRussa or no LaRussa.
October 31, 201114 yr Pujols is going for the money. If the Cardinals pay up, he'll be back ... LaRussa or no LaRussa.Do you think they can get a home town discount or will it be highest bidder wins?
October 31, 201114 yr I kind of felt like this was coming. He had a tough year with the shingles etc. There is almost no way you can top the run they made to get into the postseason, the run they made in the postseason and the run they made in the World Series. Not many guys get to go out on the very top! Congrats to him. He was a heck of a manager.
October 31, 201114 yr Do you think they can get a home town discount or will it be highest bidder wins? I don't think it will be highest bidder but for the Cards to get him they better be close to the highest bidder.
October 31, 201114 yr If they go from within, I hope it's Big Mac, not Jose Oquendo or Pettini. Really nothing to back that up, just my gut. I don't see Big Mac getting it. Has not been in it long enough. I see Jose, Pettini or someone like Francona.
October 31, 201114 yr You may see him go somewhere else in a year or two (I know he is 67). I think there were issues between him and the front office the last year or two.
October 31, 201114 yr ^ A friend of mine said it looked like he had some trouble remembering things that had just happened as he was giving press conferences during the playoffs. Any chance we find out down the road that this could be health related?
October 31, 201114 yr I'm still trying to think of any other moves that I could even consider questioning, let along bash.... How about wasting one of the pitchers in a sacrifice bunt situation on a night when a short bench was an issue? That is an easy, blatant error that comes to mind. There were more but I can't think of them right now. The fact is, the Cardinals had a great bench and credit them for that. LaRussa always had a good option to turn to in tight situations. ADDENEDUM: Here is another one I thought of. The night Holliday got hurt, when LaRussa brought in his new pitcher, he had the pitcher move to Holliday's slot in the order even though it was closer to coming up to bat than the pitcher's slot would have been.
October 31, 201114 yr :thumb:People want to question the moves he made but only the ones that didn't work out. Anyone can be an arm chair QB after the fact. I hate to Tony leave but can't blame him for going out on top. He couldn't pick a time that is more perfect than this. Doubtful that they repeat and with all the Albert questions in the off season. He had one heck of a career. I am very happy to see him go.
October 31, 201114 yr I mentioned it when the job came open, and I still believe he'll end up in Boston.
October 31, 201114 yr Thanks for all the great memories to my second favorite Cardinal manager or all time.
October 31, 201114 yr I mentioned it when the job came open, and I still believe he'll end up in Boston. Please no.
