Tony LaRussa Retires

Announcing it at a press conference right now. I'm shocked....

Can't imagine this helps bringing Pujols back.

Red fans :banana::ylsuper:

Most Cardinal fans :cry::cry:

I will be honest that I do not really care for Tony LaRussa at all, but I still wish he wasn't leaving the game. Great career.

3 world championships and going out on top. Can't get much better than that.

Jose Oquendo will get a shot but could Francona be interested in it. He has been an AL manager but so was LaRussa when he came over from Oakland.

Leaving the chance to be 2nd on the all-time wins list on the table surprised me. What a winner though going out after a World Championship. Congrats to him going out like he did. He's been the face of the Cardinals since I was like 7. Going to be very weird next year.

Yes he would have made it into the #2 spot. It has been a long ride with the Cardinals. He started there when I was finishing up college. I think of Whitey and Tony when I think of Cardinal managers. Everybody in between did not do very well. Torre did in NY but not with STL.

Does Big Mac get a shot? Which gives the Cards a better chance of landing Pujols? McGwire or Oquendo?

McGwire has no shot at it in my opinion.

Jose Oquendo or Joe Pettini on the inside and Francona from outside the organization.

OH Happy Day :clap:.....it is no secret on my feelings for Tony Larussa, aka:the man that invented baseball. Larussa will go down a great manager.

O.K.....if I compliment the man any further I will :puke:.

Abner Larussa imo may have admitted to himself that he came very close to handing Texas a W.S. title. I realize alot on here will disagree and that is fine. Larussa's claims about the infamous bullpen "phone gate" were very sad to say the least. I think that is just one pf many lame excuses he has used throughout the years when he has lost or been critisized/questioned. Larussa also screwed up throughout the entire WS in various way. The Cardinals won in spite of Abner's managing.

So Mr. Larussa.......don't let the back door hit you where the good Lord split you.Start working on your H.O.F. speech (that I hope you never have the chance to use) telling everyone how you are the greatest ever, nothing has ever been your fault.

May I be the first to recommend the next manager of the St. Louis Cardinals........Dusty Baker!

Outside of the whole incredibly overblown "phone-gate" incident, LaRussa was about as flawless as could be in this postseason. Wasn't a fan of his by any stretch, but the dude was about as good as they come. Great way to go out.

I still like Terry Francona. Reds should have tabbed him a decade ago. I have always hated LaRussa in the same way I hated Weaver, Cox, and Martin. They just seemed to be miserable people. Give me Herzog, Anderson, Lasorda any day.

:thumb:People want to question the moves he made but only the ones that didn't work out. Anyone can be an arm chair QB after the fact.

I hate to Tony leave but can't blame him for going out on top.

Don't let your hatred not let you see how good of a job he did this postseason. Besides the phone incident he was great during the post season.

By the way, you can keep DUSTY.
