Have three Garmins. One for me and one each for the two teeny bopper girls. Very easy to operate, and have really had no issues. Nice website for updates. The only problem I have with GPS, and I can see it more with the girls, is they rely so heavily on them, they do not actually know where places are. They follow the dorection of the GPS, but have no idea how they got there or how to get back.

I have both a TomTom and a Garmin and both work well....and occasionally I get frustrated with both. The Garmin is better in a city where there are a lot of overlapping freeway entrances/exits like downtown Birmingham. However both of them have given me curious directions from time to time. 98% of the time however the directions are good.

I, unfortunately, travel ALOT! I hate using a GPS but it's a necessary evil for me. I use the Garmin Nuvi ($120 or so if you can catch it on sale, maybe less). The individual who narrates is named Karen, so I am constantly yelling at Karen for being wrong about directions. The last time I was in Philly, she tried to send us off the highway about 5 or 6 exits too early. No construction or traffic, so I'm still trying to figure that one out. Getting off the highway early would've added about 20 mins to the travel time. You have to be careful when using the GPS - regardless of the manufacturer.

Mine kept turning me around in Cincinnati... It'd tell me to take an exit, I'd take it... Then it'd turn me back the other way and I'd just keep doing circles basically. Only real issue I've had with it is that one time. I'd just acquired the satellite signal coming out of the parking garage shortly before and that may be the culprit.

I used Google Navigator on my Android to go to Florida the past few weeks. It kept getting us lost by wanting to take stuid routes and pointless detours off the highway. I'd used it before and it worked well, but this time it was a mess. Tried to switch to TeleNav, but that was only worse.

 

That's surprising. I've used mine to go to Florida, South Carolina, different parts of Tennessee, and all over Kentucky and Ohio. I've really only had one issue in Florida but it was because a road was closed and a brand new road wasn't updated on the GPS. Other than that the Google Navigator has been pretty much flawless for me.

I use the Google navigator on my andriod phone as well. In the last year I've used it on a trip to Florida and a trip to Arkansas without any issues. The only thing with using the phone navigators is that they locate based on the tower they are getting signal from and not from a satelitte as with a traditional GPS, which can cause location problems in areas where multiple towers may exist.

Garmin is what we have and I must say they are great. Went to Florida last year and the projected time of arrival was like 10 mins. off on a 15 hour drive. I don't have the cheapest one, but not the highest priced one either. Cost are very reasonable at the local Wally World.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 1300 and I am happy with it. I do occasionally get bad advice from it, but I know I need to update the map and haven't done it, so that might be part of my problem. I don't use it a lot, but it is handy to have when you are out of town. I probably use it to find restaurants as much as I do for navigation, lol.

I use it to find restaurants and to check my estimated arrival time to see how many minutes I can shave off of it during the course of the trip. :sssh::lol:

Guru, I just got a Groupon for a Garmin Nuvi 1450 LMT GPS for $150 with lifetime traffic and map updates. Not really sure how good of a deal this is but just giving you a heads us.

Two differnt times, it sent us off of I-65 in Tennessee for no reason, only to get back on a few miles down the road. No, we didn't follow its advice. It did the same thing, twice, on the way back. I do have to say in its defense, one of the times, there was an accident that was slowing traffic. But it also tried to send us off toward Atlanta as we were coming north through Dothan -- instead of heading us toward Montgomery, as it should have.
