October 24, 201114 yr I had a friend ask me about GPS for an auto but I don't know anything about them. I will take any advice I can get. Of course my friend wants bang for the buck but most of all it has to be easy to operate. Anyone?
October 24, 201114 yr Most are pretty basic. I think the easiest to use are the ones that actually come on an Android phone with Google maps, but if that's not an option go with a Garmin, Magellan, Tom Tom....depends on preference for the actual user as far as the interface goes. They're all good brands, though.

October 24, 201114 yr Make sure he gets one with the Maps/Traffic. Things can change and he needs to be able to down load to change too. Look in the code number for a M/T as in a Garmin 1450 MT. These do really well as the voice is really good and easy to operate. A little pricey but once you have it, you don't worry about it.
October 24, 201114 yr I have a Tom Tom, but I prefer Garmin... The functional differences aren't huge and it's pretty easy to pick up either and figure out how to use it.

They're all good brands, though.I used Google Navigator on my Android to go to Florida the past few weeks. It kept getting us lost by wanting to take stuid routes and pointless detours off the highway. I'd used it before and it worked well, but this time it was a mess. Tried to switch to TeleNav, but that was only worse.
October 24, 201114 yr Thanks Guys! Just curious...why is a phone not an option? I have had a Tom Tom and Garmin...not much difference. I would get whichever is on sale. I get lost a lot...terrible sense of direction, so I use it a lot. On a funnnier note, my daughter borrowed the Tom Tom last year when Uk played in the Basketball tournament. She didnt know the Tom Tom was accidentally set to "avoid freeways" mode by someone who previously borrowed it. Made for an interesting trip down to Texas til her dad figured out what happened.

October 24, 201114 yr I have a TomTom with Lifetime Maps and I like it. I download an updated map for free every so often.
