Old Rambler has given a very soft vote for BW but neither hrcarrier nor Clyde are saying it and none of the three are arguing that BW should be #1. RAM is arguing for BW and so is snakesnot. None of those people are Beechwood supporters.

 

I don't provide my full support to one team; I like to consider myself an area supporter to make it technical. Regardless of being a full supporter for Beechwood or not, my response would not be any different than what I said when first posting this thread. Between everything that has happened over this season, I believe that Mayfield and Beechwood is equal. Nothing has been done yet based on this season to convince me that one is better than the other.

Yes I said that I thought that Beechwood was the best in 1A. I also said that I understand why Mayfield is ranked on top, they haven't lost and Beechwood has. I guess it is a "soft" vote but as I said, they are the two best in 1A.

 

Another thing I said is that rankings are for fans to argure about and this thead has proven that true. No one should argue that, lol.

I appreciate the feedback from hrcarrier and old rambler. The person I can't wait to hear explain himself is snakesnot. He is the one all crazed about BW being #1 and yet he says they should be #1. :idunno: :popcorn:

We got there and played a very bad game against a very good team. But we are talking about Beechwood and them getting blown off the field the last 2 years. Oh yes, blown off , the 38-0 in 09 was mercifull because Mayfield stopped in the 3rd quarter plus 2 tds were called back. Last year we took on a knee a the 2 yard line to end the game. Oh yes, we are talking about Beechwood and them not getting it done the last 2 and a half seasons and why should they be # 1 . Its the same ole same ole here about 100 against 4. Same thing the last 2 years Blah blah Beechwood this and that but what have they really done , then and now? Nothing.

 

So, is Mayfield's getting blown off the field in 2009 getting it done or not? I'm a little bit confused about what you consider success. Mayfield got it done last year. That's it.

I honestly think if Beechwood and Mayfield played right now it could go either way. But, in absence of that matchup I am just saying that I think Beechwood is number one. I have absolutely nothing against Mayfield and am certainly not a "hater", we are debating number one, and the politically correct answer is to say "they could either one be number one", but I say take one, and my choice is Beechwood.

Personally, it really doesn't matter what they're ranked. Both are really good 1a teams and both could probably beat the other on a given night. My homerism says Mayfield, but, only because I have a very good grasp of there team and players and know what they're capable of. Secondly, I don't think they have done anything to warrent a drop. They are undefeated, they beat a very strong Tilghman team by a good margin on the road, there defense is as good as I've seen in alot of years following the team and they also have wins over 2 5a teams, a 6a team and a ranked 2a team and were impressive in all. Lastly, they defeated Beechwood by a combined 76-14 the last 2 years. I know that was last year and the year before, but, with how they are playing this year, I don't think there is much drop off from the last 2 years, if any and I have a hard time believing Bwood has made up the ground neccessary to overtake them. I do think this years Tiger squad is alot better than the last 2, without question, but, people who don't follow Mayfield that closely are assuming Mayfield isn't as good as the last 2 years and thats where they're making the mistake. I don't think they're as explosive offensively as last year nor as deep in the line, but, they're better in other areas that make up the difference, such as defensively, kicking game, running game. They won't blow as many teams out as last years bunch, but, they also won't give up as many points and there line play has been much better than I anticipated. They are actually bigger across the front and there technique on run blocking is better, they just aren't sr dominated like last years group and aren't quite as strong, but, still a fine group. I watched Bwood play SK earlier in the year and it appears they are alot faster than last year, especially in the trenches and have better size and strength and I do think this years version will be a load to handle for any 1a team, including Mayfield and if they do happen to matchup in week 14, I think we're in for a heck of a treat.

UKFball, This is actually a audio clip on the Cards by football guru Joey Fosko of the Paducah Sun taped on the Travis Turner Sports Show. The clip about Mayfield so far this season is the second one down titled "The Paducah Sun's Joey Fosko Reviews Last Weekend's High School Football Action September 23, 2011" Published 9/30/11. The segment of the Cardinals starts at the .45 second mark and ends at the 4 min mark. It is a good listen on where the Cards stand at this point.

The Litratings are usually the least reliable of the rating systems. Plus, we're barely halfway through the season, and the computer-generated numbers tend to get more reliable as the season moves along.

Massey rankings have Mayfield ahead of Beechwood. I have found them to be very reliable.

I believe that Massey is probably the best ranking system used.
