What if I said Highlands has a great advantage in the fact that many quality athletes in Louisville can't afford to go to Trinity? Does anyone doubt that that is true?

Unless I'm mistaken, (and I have been a lot lately), things Trinity (and most other privates) don't have to throw money at:

 

Special Ed

School lunch program

School Transportation

Title IX

 

Basically, they fund education and extra cirricular activities. Or half of what a public school has to fund because it is one gender.

 

Am I mad about it? No. It is what it is.

 

I understand when some of them are able build new stadiums, inside practice facilities, trips to top flight camps, etc.

 

If Trinity needed to add three paid assistant coaches to the staff, it's likely not going to cause a ruckus.

 

Try walking into a Christian County School Board meeting and asking the same thing for Christian County or Hopkinsville.

 

What kind of facilities would your school have if the district did not have to pay for transportation (and the jobs that come with it), school meal program (and those salaries), and the entire female sports budget?

I have never heard of a kid in Ohio transferring to Highlands . The Cincinnati area and especially the GCL south has some of the best high school football in the country. Why would they want to cross the river to play at Highlands ? Kentucky football plays second fiddle to Ohio football , but I'm not sure that I agree with that statement , but most people do ?

 

I agree most athletes would likely take a GCL school, however every situation is different. A stud RB might not have much playing time at one of the GCL schools but have a good shot at highlands because maybe they have that need. Not to mention I'm pretty sure Highlands out of district tuition is MUCH cheaper than any of the GCL schools.

As far as I know there are only 3 schools in KY with football teams that do not have to worry about Title IX: T, X, CCH. The other 90% of the privates do have to comply.

The last one I know was a girl that played Basketball, softball, volleyball, I am not upset about it I was just pointing out that it does happen at a lot of Schools.

 

 

No disrespect intended , but how in the world does this one girl , playing basketball,softball and volleyball , give Highlands football team an advantage over Trinity's program ?

I'm not here to blast the private schools. But one huge advantage they have is not always who they let in but who they can keep out. If you are an unathletic boy living next to Dunbar in Lexington you have the right to go there, if the same situation occurs at Trinity the student does not have the right to go there. If some of these big high schools are full of non athletic students (which some are no matter how good people are at reading student numbers) and private schools can pick and choose then its an advantage.

 

This is just my opinion but I can't imagine there are only 1400 boys or so who like to attend Trinity, I would bet its a lot higher.

Do they just walk in and say " I'm here " , then they ask your forty times , do you work out daily , then say , "if you don't play football you can't go to school here ." Do they actually fill out an application like on a job interview ? I don't know so how do schools know who to accept and who not to ?

Also, Highlands isn't necessarily the top school in the area when you look to football. Sure in NKY Highlands is the team, but not compared to the Cincinnati area. A big reason kids rarely come to Highlands from Ohio is because they have St. X and Elder. Sure Colerain is right up there with them, but the most success comes from the Large Private schools.

 

Across the country there just aren't big private schools everywhere. Ohio football has a ton of large Cathlic Schools that dominate (for the most part). Lots of Texas schools just have the public school, so that is where they go. They dont have the option to go to a Large private. They also have 40 million dollar football stadiums.

 

What I take from this is that Trinity is supposed to be that good, and they are. Highlands isn't supposed to be that good, and they are. Both teams are top notch.

Hoosierbirdfan the girl has nothing to do with it I was making a point that a lot of Schools have transfers and do not have to sit out, if you what to know the girl left NCC went to Highlands and did not sit, plus yes you can live in Dayton and go to Highlands they have an agreement for years, this is not Highlands fault, its Dayton.

My brother in law owns 2 apartment buildings in Ft Thomas and he always has had at least one tenant who is renting just to get a Ft Thomas address so as to send a child to the Ft Thomas school system . Basically a mail drop .

The most obvious advantage was stated earlier. Trinity does not have to adhere to Title IX regulations. The can spend their funds however they choose. Highlands must adhere to Federal Law.

 

Just to note, were we coed we would have to adhere to Title IX. It applies to publics and privates.

For the Bluebirds to even be considered a worthy opponent to this Trinity squad is pretty amazing to me. The disparity in size is the most salient difference. Trinity has every advantage. With that, they have everything to lose Friday. I ask you this, what other small school program in Kentucky has the history that the Birds have of playing and beating large schools on a consistent basis?.........Highlands football is an anomaly. I smell victory for the Birds.

First of all I was mentioning this because private schools have the advantage of picking and choosing who they let in their doors. I never said anything of Highlands, they are a public school if you live in their district you have the right to go there.

 

I want to ask some Trinity fans a question. If it wasn't for the recession would Trinity's school population be through the roof? Most private schools have a population cap because they don't want to build anymore. If Trinity could reach 2500-3000+ students would they want this? Would the school want to stop the growth. I can understand times are tough with money right now but Trinity being the power it is in football right now I would think people would be knocking down the doors to go there.

 

If not, I find it odd their school population has basically been the exact same for 15 years that I know or close to it.

Trinity did not post their full roster from last year so I'm not sure how many players they really have, but I have talked with their staff in the past and have a good idea. Football is won with talent and depth. Here is why St. X is so good, talent and meet their depth. I'm not saying this is an advantage for private schools but it does show you there is a big difference from St. X/Trinity from everyone else. I think its funny when people say we have 80 or 90 players this year and think that is a huge team. That doesn't sniff St. X.
