Since number of students and financial resources don't matter in football, why have classes?

If you are going to simply dismiss any answers why ask the question?

 

I will cover a few advantages:

 

Student selection - At Trinity there is a vetting process for enrollment. Not everyone or anyone is allowed to attend. At Highlands, if you live in Ft. Thomas you are in. I personally know people who have sent their children to private schools to avoid the issues that they percieved were present in the public school. (Highlands) And yes their children did play football, and quite well I might add. One need look no further than the roster at Newport Catholic to see the many Ft. Thomas residents playing there, and not all are Catholic. Prehaps more importantly on this point, if the administration wants a student out of the school, they are out. No longer a distraction. No longer dragging down others around them.

 

Student recruitment - At Trinity, like other private schools, they must seek out or recruit students. Some private schools have been known to do this at the local (and sometimes not so local) little league football fields. What better place to find future male students right. This is a competative market and more students means more tuition. During these lean time this is as important as ever. At Highlands, they may not seek out students at a little league football field because that would cross the line for a public school.

 

Facilities - What Trinity wants, they will eventually get, if that be buildings, labratories or athletic facilities. As Guru pointed out Ft. Thomas Schools have raised millions of dollars in private donations to renovate the school. What he did not tell you is that even with that effort the renovation process is only about 60% complete. There is yet to be one dollar of those funds spent on athletic facilities. What he also did not say is that the Ft. Thomas Independant School district recieves less money in state funding per pupil than ANY other district in the state.

 

All of that being said I expect to see a great scrimmage from the two best teams in the state Friday night. May God bless all who participate and those that come to root them on.

GURU, I'll try but I don't much about Highlands except do they have to share practice time with girls, the Rocks don't, also if I win the Powerball and want to share in the Rocks football can I do the same at Highlands with out helping the girls? Can a Boone County kid go to Highlands and not have to sit out, could my son attend there?

 

Does Highlands have a 12 county range for kids coming to the school?

 

Do they have mandatory Religious classes? How does their kids get to Highlands is there a bus?

 

How many coaches are allowed and the pay scale at Highlands?

 

Is there a dress code at Highlands?

 

Is there a turf at Highlands? Yes, I've been there and also St X /Rocks who else in the state has one?

 

When Cris gave a donation for the field was the girls teams allowed to have some also?

 

Girls period? Oh wait I meant girls only , now is that a issue, I mentioned girls sports, can a kid transfer to Highlands and not miss a second?

 

Is there contact allowed for 8th graders at Highlands, where do they get their 8th graders from, how many schools?

 

I haven't seen their weight room fieldhouse at Highlands.

Curious, I looked up the top 30 schools in Rivals final 2010 national high school rankings.

 

24 out of 30 were public schools. The average enrollment of the public schools was about 2200 students.

 

There's no arguing that size is an advantage. However, it is obvious that not all big schools utilize it.

The title of this thread assumes that in a given year, Highlands' team is just as good as Trinity. I don't know if that's the case because of my limited exposure to both programs. If that's the case, it speaks volumes about Highlands' program.

 

Trinity does have some advantages, primarily its enrollment and the number of players in the program. There aren't any public school programs in this state that have 200 kids participating in football, like Trinity and St. Xavier do.

 

And I wouldn't be quick to consider Highlands as a typical public school. Highlands' environment lends itself to maintaining a powerful football program, and that's nothing but a compliment to the Bluebirds.

I don't see any with as many as T and X, 200-350+ less kids is considerable. There are football schools with considerably less boys than that in there entire top 4 grades, and those teams normally dress 30-35 kids. Well if 8-10 of those are top notch players than that's an advantage. I also trully believe that at least 150 of those 200 kids came to Trinity strickly for football reasons.

Hypothetically, if Highlands were a private boys only school and could accomodate 1400 boys with the same coaching staff in place, yet got the pick of the litter of Ryle, SKenton, NCC, Beechwood, CCatholic, Dixie, Boone Co, Campbell Co, Conner, Holy Cross, Lloyd, Newport, etc as well as what they already have, then you would essentially have what Trinity has. Even if you only added 4 or 5 of the top players from each of those schools, you'd have another 50 to 75 kids to choose from. Now tell me that wouldn't make a difference or be an advantage.

So Guru, are you still convinced that Trinity has no advantage?
