Highlands v Johnson Central would be in the quarters. HHS v Boyle would be a semi final match. Both games would be in Ft. Thomas.

 

Highlands would host Johnson Central. But they would have to travel to Boyle for the state semifinals. This is an odd year (2011) and Boyle is the odd region (3). Highlands is now in Region 4.

JC and Cov Cath IMO, have the best chance to end the run for five. Is that better?

It is so interesting to look at it and see all the teams that do have a legitimate shot at beating Highlands in 4A, whereas in 5A the last few years you had to try very hard to find a team or two who you even thought had a chance.

 

To answer the thread question, I am going to pick Cov Cath as the team with the best chance. It is a rivalry match up, CCH will get to see Highlands twice and that is going to help their chances a lot IMO when it comes playoff time. Not knowing enough about the state wide teams at this point to think about matchups, I would put Boyle at the top of the list based on Boyle's own state championship success in recent years and since they too will get to play the Birds once before playoff time.

I think a lot of people are underestimating how good LexCath will be this year as well as next year. As I said before, the winner of Boyle/LexCath in the quarters will have the best chance at home against Highlands the day after Thanksgiving.

It's about the same as it was in 5A. 2 of the 4 teams mentioned were in 5A last year along with Bowling Green, John Hardin and Christian County who all were mentioned as having legitimate shots at some point in the season last year.

As a minor point, everyone is assuming that the Round 3 (Regional) game is between = seeds. 1st 3 rounds, best seed (#1 - #4 from the 2 districts) hosts (see below). 3rd round is 1st opportunity for = seeds to meet. This year, HHS district hosts = seeds.

 

4th round, seed is irrelevant and Region # controls. Despite the fact that HHS went to JC and Harlan County last year, they would travel again in Round 4 if they get there.

I tried really hard. Boyle I suppose because of their combination of coaching and talent.

Highland win #5, but Lex. Cath., Boyle Co., Cov. Cath or Johnson Central will all give Highlands a ngood Game.
