Who has the best chance of stopping Highlands run for 5?

Featured Replies

Everyone on here either loves or hates Highlands so let's get straight to the question that we all want to know. Please remember to give some supporting basis for your opinion. If your answer is "nobody" then you either can't read or you just have a problem following directions. The question is who has the best chance? You can even quantify that by saying it's a 5% chance or whatever if that makes you feel better.

My vote is obvious.... I think that JC will have the talent and the dedication to make a playoff run and possibly make a run towards Highlands in the playoffs this year. If I'm not mistaken they would be at Highlands if they made it that far so I have to say that I'm giving them a pre-season chance at doing it. My supporting argument is that the last couple of years have shown that JC is not totally outclassed by Highlands. JC has proven that their running game is possibly the best in the state and they are slowly getting better at the passing game. They took the game down to the wire last year and if not for a great performance by Towles and a dropped pass in the endzone by JC, Highlands streak could have been over. They (JC) do lose some players this year so that will hurt but they've got some young guys coming up that will surprise you. I will have to admit that most people forget that Highlands was pretty banged up by the time they got to JC and that did make a big difference in the game last year. Just my opinion.

I'm not familiar with all the Northern and Western KY teams so educate me on who has a chance.....

I suppose the easiest choice right off the bat is Boyle County. BC is the defending 4A champ and is 2-2 all-time against Highlands.

My choice goes to one of the teams Highlands could possibly play twice during the same season.IMO, Cov Cath has been there before and always seems to play at that next level when it comes to play off time.

When would Highlands and Boyle meet in the playoffs if they both got therr?

Highlands v Johnson Central would be in the quarters. HHS v Boyle would be a semi final match. Both games would be in Ft. Thomas.

I gotcha. The first game wouldn't stop their run at 5 in a row because district and playoffs are the only games that matter in terms of a state title.

Are you sure? Everyone down here seems to think Highlands/Boyle part 2 would be down here and that next year Highlands/Boyle part 2 will be in Ft. Thomas. I am not sure now after reading your post but we were all thinking both games would be down here this year.

I think the winner of Boyle/Lexington Catholic part 2 will have the best chance to beat Highlands in the playoffs. I am biased though.

I may have to make my way to that matchup. It would be a dandy that late in the year. Too bad that can't be the Finals.

I think CCH is going to give them all they can handle.

I heard Dixie has one of the best QB's in the country , if he has any supporting cast around him , they might have a shot. It didn't work out for Tim Couch back in the day , so Pike needs a supporting cast around him , and definetly a shut down defense . Pike and HIS TEAM will have to play the game of their life to beat the Birds! Pike is rated very very high in the country based on his performance at the QB camps that he has attended , can he do it on the field in a real game is yet to be seen. Being at Auburn next year on scholly , should prove he is a great QB .

It's funny that you should mention the lovers and haters at Highlands. From what I have observed over the years is this. The ones that you would think would hate Highlands don't and vice versa. Cov-Cath and Highlands have a great rivalry that has been going on forever, and it one of the most anticipated games of the year , and usually it boils down to the winner going deeper in the playoffs. Go back and read the posts on BGP , the fans enjoy the rivalry as much as the players do. I don't hear much trash talking amoung the players or the fans.

Johnson Central has fielded some great teams over the last few years , do they hate Highlands or respect them ? I don't know , but I would say both teams respect each other equally. If somebody from JC knows differently you can correct me. Highlands enjoys playing the great teams that give them a challenge , but I would say " hate" is Not the proper word.

I would think the haters come from most of the teams and their fans that don't even schedule or play Highlands . I would also think that these Highlands "haters " know less about high school football than the average 8TH grader.

Last but not least , the great teams enjoy playing great teams , there is more respect , mutual respect , than hatered among the competitive teams!

Hoosier, what in the world does your reply have to do with the question posed?

If Towles says healthy I don't think anyone has a chance.

Even if Dixie were to beat Highlands they likely wouldn't have much impact on whether or not the Birds won a 5th straight championship. Highlands is now 4A and Dixie is 6A.
