James Quick is the first one that I'm aware of that played significant minutes on varsity as a freshman but there have been a few who have dressed varsity near the end of the season over the years (B. Brohm, maybe Matt Stein & Tim McConnell) could be a few others but I doubt very many more...

feel free to take this w/ a grain of salt (I know I am given that he's an incoming freshman) but I recently heard from a fairly reliable source that there's a pretty good chance he will be backing up Dawkins on varsity...

 

Good news for HHS frosh. They play each other in the opening week at HHS. It's already going to be a tough battle. How many kids from a school like Trinity play sophomores, let alone freshmen on the Varsity level. He must really be special.

Drake Bruns (UC Commit) didnt play in last year's scrimmage and Quick was very effective. I would expect having Drake back there will help reduce any breakaways Quick might get. I dont know if you can keep him from catching it but if you can keep him from breaking off long TD receptions, you have a chance. I am more concerned with the Trinity QB who looked very good last year as a sophomore. The Birds will need to get pressure on him if they want to have a chance.

Last year it seemed the Birds struggled with pass coverage..i.e. Cov Cath, Dixie.....I'm sure it will be alot better this year with experience.

That is not correct. Quick started playing varsity about midway through the regular season of his freshman year.

Interesting. As far as I remember, Brian Brohm didn't play as a Freshman till after the Frosh season was over. I believe he didn't anyways.

I'm not saying he didn't but I don't ever remember Brohm seeing the varsity field as a freshman other than dressing & standing on the sidelines...
