I don't see this as making excuses. "Winning" a scrimmage is not worth risking injuries that can cost you the rest of the season. I would think the coaches would want to make a good showing and work on any weaknesses they think they might have. Winning a scrimmage at all costs just makes no sense.

 

In my opinion (take it for what its worth ) a scrimmage is just a "game like" practice . They have practices with full contact drills , they don't worry about injuries when they are practicing amoung themselves , whats the difference.

 

I may be totally wrong (I'm sure someone will tell me if I am ) , both of these teams are going to play there hearts out and hold nothing back. Trinity is tired of hearing about the little school that can , and, I'm sure the Highlands players are tired of hearing how great Trinity is. It makes for a great night of high school football at its best !

 

IMO , the only way to tell if both teams are playing for the win , or , if they are working on weaknesses , is to see who is playing in the fourth quarter .If Towles , Bruns and Quick are playing in the fourh quarter then its " GAME ON ", they are playing to win !! (When was the last time that either team was not playing to win ?) I say it's "GAME ON ".

I'm not seeing Trinity going all out to win this scrimmage. They alreay have 2 starters out. Sugg (db) for the year and Noe (wr) for a few more weeks. No reason at all to risk more injuries when they have the games that count on the horizon. I'm sure this comment will be spun as "making excuses"... whatever, just my opinion which I am entitled to.

 

I don't see either team going "all out" to win this scrimmage. Both coaches are too smart for that. If a player is slightly injured where he could play on I expect the coaches will sit him. I also expect more players to see the field than might normally happen in a game.

 

Good news is that weather wise it looks like it's going to be beautiful!

Just watched last years tape and counted nine linebackers and ten defensive lineman playing in the varsity 'game' for Highlands. A three down system and they used ten lineman tells me that the last guy was fourth string. It also tells me that the coaches were trying to find out who can play. Trinity does not appear to have substituted quite so liberally, but certainly did play a lot of guys. Also, the stars were in throughout, so nobody appears to have been held back to prevent injury. If they were dressed they played. Please keep this in mind as you evaluate this or any other scrimmage. The coaches are using it for what they intended. To get their respective teams ready for the season.

Before this gets a life of it's own be reminded that Trinity substituded liberally as well. I think if you were to look at the tape as I did you would find that the substitution patterns are the real reason that we saw nearly 100 points scored. And again, the way the coaches played it is part of the reason they both keep winning state championships.

IMO ,substituding is the only way to keep a handle on the players. The ones on the field at the time will give 100% . 1st team , third team , it doesn't matter . They will go all out until the end.

Alright, Tony Danza and I have both mentioned meeting up with Bluebirds coming to the scrimmage and you Bluebirds have been awfully quiet. What the matter, you Birds too good for us Rocks?

Also, when you talk about the thousands and thousands of high school football teams across the nation, when you take the top one hundred you are taking a TINY percentage of the most elite schools so I would imagine the difference between #1 and #100 is not that drastic.
