I would take my chances that he didn't hit into a double play, but you are right that was a possibilty. My point that you are ignoring, probably because I make too much sense, is even if he makes it the most likely scenario was Votto would have had the bat taken out of his hands.

I'm simply saying that the players are making a lot of money for a reason, (10 or so on the roster make more than Baker) they have a larger impact on wins and losses than the manager.

 

So you'd rather have Votto up, needing to hit a double (or more) to score a run, than Phillips up with only needing a base hit? THIS is why you don't make sense. A single, which is what Votto does best, still doesn't score the run.

I'm fine with it either way. I'd understand if he didn't but I understand why he did. Like it or not, if they're going to make a run they'll likely need CoCo. If you move someone to his role you lose them in another role.

There are times if you do not manage the closers appearances and pitches, there will be a night that he just simply is not available. That was the case Sunday. No way they should have wheeled him out there. He was set up to fail by the manager.

I'm with you. I don't have too much of a problem with Dusty, unless it has been his decision to retain the hitting coach. Jacoby just isn't helping the young guys out at all. And quite frankly doesn't seem to help the vets either.

So you're willing to say if it was played out a double play could have happened, but not willing to say Cairo could have reached base to give them two on and one out? It was a dumb move to get caught stealing making it more likely that Votto A.) didn't get an at bat or B.) got an at bat with a guy on second so he was walked. I would have let it play out rather than getting thrown out by 5 feet attempting to steal on an 0-1 count when most thought a pitch out was coming.

 

This is a thread for opinions about bad Dusty decisions. Get out of it if you don't like secong guessing questionable decisions. We can't talk about decisions BEFORE they happen on here can we?

It isn't moving him out of his role to let someone else pitch one day because your closer is tired from throwing 50+ pitches the last two days. I have no problem whatsoever with Cordero being the closer. The issue is why use him Saturday up 5? Or if you do pointlessly use him Saturday why go back to his tired arm Sunday when other options were available?

Quite simply Dusty lost this game yesterday. That's tough to do.

Iam not so sure, Dusty seems to be getting a patent on it.

And you deserve to, Hurdle has injected confidence in that team, the Pirates turnaround this season imo is one of the better stories in MLB this season.

I can't see how anyone could defend Dusty on the way he handles (mishandles) a pitching staff. Dusty has a history of that (Cubs). Like I said on the other thread, Dusty has to have an advanced gps unit to find his way to the pitchers mound or bullpen. :isurrender:

One of the biggest things that I have against Baker other than the pitching is him switching/changing the lineup as often as he does. I just feel that a team has to get used to working with the same lineup day in and day out. Constantly changing a lineup along with a batting order is not good, jmo. Of course a change is needed at times....injury, player needs a rest,etc.. but it seems to me that he switches a lineup far too often.

I 100% agree, my nephew is a Cubs fan and was living in Chicago (a couple of blocks from Wrigley)when Dusty was in charge and that was the general feeling/complaints with him there. I just remember that he had two of the best pitchers in the NL (Woods, Prior) and used/threw them so much both went down/out with arm problems.

The Cubs couldn't win with Piniella, who's classified as a good manager.
