I realize that the DH has been discussed over and over but I will bring it up again. Are you in favor of the DH or against it?

Thank you. I am against the DH as well. I think that it takes alot away from strategy for the Managers.(to pinch hit or not, when to make a move, etc.,etc)

I clicked the wrong one by mistake. Oh well. I'm actually against it too. I'm against the DH because I like that the National League managers have to manage a little more.

This is the one I hear all the time and I don't agree with it. Day in, day out, the toughest job for a manager (in either league) is managing his pitching staff. In the American League, suddenly managing a staff is all-important because every other manager is making decisions solely on when a pitcher is or isn't capable of pitching. It makes for interesting combinations up and down the bullpen because the other team you're playing in a three-game series might be able to keep an extra reliever by having a starter go long or having a long relief outing. I don't believe the idea that there is less strategy... it's just different strategy.

Being a Reds fan, I'm a lifelong National League guy; but I favor the DH.

Whatever, just both leagues need to do the same.

I do. A good hitting pitcher, or one that can place bunts down well can make the difference between a good club and a bad club. Sacrifice bunting is a lost art in the game. Some of the other hitters in the game should learn how to bunt better too.

Very much agree! I'd prefer the DH, but I'd more prefer both leagues utilize the same rule whichever way they go. But we're very much more likely to see the NL go with the DH than the AL to scrap it.

Vehemently against the DH. Baseball is chess. Baseball with the DH is chess without the rooks on the board. Sure, still interesting but a lot less complex. I don't like half players in the game, which many of the DH guys are. If you aren't enough of an athlete to be able to play defense, I really don't want to see you regardless of how far you can hit a baseball. I just think the DH simplifies the game, cheapens the game and is all about selling tickets to the simple masses who don't really care about the game - they just want to see more runs.

Absolutely...and when he figures out how to put the ball in play he will win 2 or 3 more games per year, and that by itself will increase his earnings by a half million per season. Someday the light bulb will come on for him.

Totally for it. If we want to make baseball more archaic than it already is, sure remove a good bat with a person totally incapable.

 

Look, I get the whole "chess" mentality, and I can appreciate that. It is interesting in the respect it creats managerial difficulties later on in the game with relief pitchers and other substitutions. That part is cool. My biggest issue is that hitting is not taken seriously by pitchers. We have had this discussion before, there is no reason pitchers should be as putrid as they are behind the plate, considering the majority of their lives they were most likely the best athletes and most likely great hitters. Irks me to no end.
