Trinity 14 St. Xavier 6

Featured Replies

Two things won this game for Trinity: senior leadership and Coach Bob Beatty. This Trinity team was far from the most physically talented team that Trinity has had. But what it may have lacked in physical ability, it more than made up in

guts, character and senior leadership. I believe that there was a post earlier that intimated that these types of intagible qualities would not be able to overcome the 30+ shellacking that X put on Trinity in late September, that all the talk about "pride, loyalty, achievement and discipline " would prove futile and of no effect against the (allegedly) superior talent of St. X, that St. X's OL and DL would dominate and/or wear down Trinity's lines, and that St. X would summarily dismiss an impudent Trinity team that had the audacity to think it could compete with the team that had won 25 or so games in succession and was clearly on its way to establishing itself as one of the best, currently, in the USA and, historically, one of the best ever at St. X.

Well, Coach Beatty and Trinity's seniors had a slightly different take on this situation. The seniors were embarrassed by the Spetember blowout (despite mitigating personnel circumstances) and were offended by the subsequent slights and disrespect directed toward them from many points. These served to galvanize them in an effort to successfully end a season which many had written off. They have now succeeded in this endeavor, much in the same fashion that old Flaget High would prevail against St. X (the all-time series is 19-9 in favor of Flaget). The most physically talented team does not always win. This is what make sports great. Heart and desire are variables that computers cannot quantify.

Finally, for all those in the Louisville area and elsewhere who think that Bob Beatty cannot coach, I suggest that you study the past 6 years and how Trinity has fared in the 4A tournament. The job he did with this year's Shamrock team was nothing less than phenomenal, given the adversity he and the team encountered.

Great post. Couldn't agree more!

Congratulations to the Shamrocks ! This one has to be the sweetest of the 16 ! What character this team , this staff and this school showed in the scond half of the season. To overcome the avalanche of injuries and pull the upset of the century leaves me breathless and bursting with Pride.

Merry Christmas to all !

I've had some time to reflect on last nights game and I still feel overwhelmed with the emotion of this title. These kids have worked so hard and believed in themselves when very few others did. This coaching staff has endured much criticism dating back to the early exit in the playoffs last year. Our head coach, Bob Beatty, that put up with constant second guessing from within and outside of Trinity. They just created a box around the program devised a plan and did the work. Day in and day out they worked. This team dealt with a number of injuries, and never used that excuse. They just continued to work. I can tell you that I've enjoyed many wins and suffered through a few losses as a member of the Trinity football ROCK family, but last night was special. I ran into a father of one of the players last night, a guy that knows as much as anyone I'll ever meet about winning. He said that he has had enjoyed success in sports at every level you can name. High school championship, NCAA championship and a world championship, but he would put Trinity's 16th 4A state championship right up there at the top. I guess that illustrates a father's love. To all the seniors, you guys sure know how to finish a season. Thanks to each and every one of you and good luck in the future. To the underclassmen, enjoy it but get back to work. Many large shoes to fill. To the coaching staff and especially Coach Beatty, I hope through our support of the program that you knew that even in your darkest hour you were never alone. God bless you and thanks for a great year.

2005 State Champion Trinity Shamrocks!!!

I think that I know who you are talking about. He and his son (mom too) are a credit to our Trinity family. I was part of our first championship in 1968 and believe me #16 is just as sweet. Very few outside of the Trinity family know what an accomplishment this one was. To all of the players, coaches, parents, fans, alumni, teachers and trainers, I salute you and thank you. "TRINITY FOREVER"

I know, I know… Glaser “says” things all the time. But!

He has been telling 8th graders “Why would anyone want to go to Trinity? I guarantee they will not win a championship in the next 4 years. We own them.”

If I were an 8th grader, I’d have to wonder what else he has said that might not come true…

Glaser would never say anything close to that, do you talk to a lot of 8th graders down in nashville?? Enjoy your upset don't make things up. Glaser is too classy for those antics and you know it!

I will give t credit they won.

Nothing went right for X and we played the worst game I have seen in a long time.

As far as CentreRocks comments on Vic, I remember the pebbles radio crew saying your poster boy got away with "shot to the face" of a HC player.

Don't forget they are kids and get emotional, especially after a terrible spot.

X jumped and lacked some discipline, I am sure the pebbles d-line was not shouting our cadence as they have for years, but we should battle through that

the refs were in slow speed, why all the pauses between plays??? again not why we lost but affected pace of play for both

why did we throw so much on 1st down???

I still feel X wins 8 out of 10 but all t needed was one last night, congrats to the pebbles

One question I had, did anyone see the late hit on P? I was not watching the QB....

Also congrats to the Tigers on a great run of 25 in a row. We will be back!

Please don't tell me the excuse machine is now going to start. To anyone who watched last night's game it was apparent who the better coached team was. The tabbies may well win 8 out of 10 but the 4A championship is only one game so who cares, Coach Beatty and staff got the Rocks ready for that game the tabbies may not have. The Rocks are going to be getting fitted for rings (some of them their second) and the tabbies will just be able to say what if.

After the 4th down STOP Anderson should definately been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. That no call could have had an impact on the game BUT Mr. Petrino (to you tabby fans) insured that the Rocks could run out the clock and the season on the kittens.

Have you talked with the 8th graders that get the private one-on-one tours of x's campus provided by the classy Glaser? He WAS saying that and more.

Now worries here though. We enjoy making him have to make up new guarantees. I can't wait to hear the next one.

Thanks... I would have posted some sooner, but I had to find a place in the Ville that served Goeta before I posted... (just kidding, but some will find it humorous...lol)

Eeewwwwwwww! :creepy:

Don't think it's his coaching ability that has ever been questioned...think it's other things.

Congrats go out to Trinity for a great game. Big win. Sounds like the PRIDE factor was huge tonight. Not a shocking upset when it comes to this rivalry. Between these two and a couple of others around the state, records mean little.

Congrats to St X on a great year as well. Sorry you did not achieve the goal at hand, but keep your head up and be proud of your season.

Congrats to Tony D, Rockmom, LSU Rock & Rockpride and all other BGP Rock fans and I am sure you had the Ville ROCKIN last night. Tony D probably is still missing the Big Red bus.

I could have used that Red Bus

BGP Rule #4: No school-specific recruiting comments or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, or player are allowed. No talking about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact http://www.khsaa.org to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.
