As someone who is very much a critic of President Obama, I thought his speech was great last night.

 

Also thought the statements by President's Bush and Clinton were awesome as well.

That was honestly my initial thought as well, but definitely glad this guy is gone. If for no other reason for the sake of the families who lost loved once in the 9/11 attack or those who have fought bravely for our country since.

:thumb: No doubt as it has been rumored for years that he was out of much of the operations end of things. However, the symbolism is much larger than taking him out of the operations anyway.

Ultimately, this doesn't mean much. It's a symbolic victory, sure. But as far as it having an effect on withdrawling from Afghanistan or Iraq, it means little. I actually think this could be bad news for Obama. He isn't going to bring troops home any sooner and a large part of the American public will not understand why the death of Osama wasn't the end of Afghan ops.

I agree with the big picture of your post. But it is also a much needed shot to the arm for American morale with a tiny since of closure.

Just watched the speech...I love the quote, "The American people didn't choose this fight. It came to our shores."

I know that likely someone else will step in the leadership void that bin Laden leaves, so that it is too much to hope for an end to what he stands for, but it is a relief to finally have found him and brought him to final justice.

 

Additionally, I hope that this will be celebrated as a non-partisan victory.

Actually I think that the political card was drawn here first.

The Muslim Brotherhood is already saying the US should now leave Iraq and Afghanistan..

 

They can forget it, this war is far from over.
