Kanter Permanently Ineligible

Featured Replies

UK Men's Basketball Coach John Calipari Statement on the Ruling

"We are obviously disappointed in this decision and find it unfortunate that a group of adults would come to such a decision regarding the future of an 18-year-old young man."

"This has never been about our program or the University of Kentucky, it has been about the wishes of Enes and his family to have their son educated in the United States. It is a shame that Enes had to endure the constant speculation and misinformation that was furthered by certain media organizations in the smear campaign conducted by his Turkish team."

"The silver lining is that Enes will always be part of this team. My job will be to prepare him for his entry into the NBA Draft, which this decision by the Association will likely necessitate. Enes will always be a part of our family and I plan to be by his side in the green room whenever he is drafted."

And this is why Coach Cal is such a great coach. Love him or hate him, fan of UK or not, the man really does care about his players and their future.

Hey NCAA few words Scam Newton & Josh Selby & Ohio States Qaurteback every time he was pulled over by the police he had a different car! Please, just answer these concerns for me and I'll except the Kanter decision and shut up!

Go Big Blue!

Rule #13

It is time to move on. As much as I wanted to see Enes play, we can't miss what we never had. I wish him all the best in the future. Enes is now free!

You are right it's just frustating we needed him to solidify our team and depth!

Go Big Blue!

This is crap. The NCAA is the biggest bunch of garbage I've ever seen. A cheater like Selby can play but Enes can't? Newton's dad can pimp him out but the NCAA will allow him to play in the title game so they can make money off of it, but mark my words they'll get sanctioned for this season. I don't see how anyone, even the biggest UK hater cannot see that Kanter and UK were given an unfair shake when all things are considered. It's not about the student athletes or their educations, it's about money. The NCAA doesn't need UK basketball to be good, they sell no matter how bad they are so let's punish a kid who truly wants to play college basketball and tried to remain eligible.

I'll always believe that this ruling was a case of it being Kentucky and Calipari. We'll never know one way or the other but I have a feeling that if Kanter had been at another school the ruling would have been different. He would have at least been allowed to play next year. A kid who was 14, 15, 16 years old and his parents handling his financial affairs is considered a pro. That's a joke. Why couldn't the NCAA see the angle and the trap that the Turkish team set for the Kanters. It's really sad.

The chairman of the NCAA is the president of the University of Washington, the school that Kanter (and Jones) turned their back on. There's more to this story than we'll ever know imo.

Once you are deemed a pro, there's no going back. While the NCAA has gotten plenty wrong recently, that part has no gray area...

Kanter originally committed to Washington. The president of Washington at the time of Enes' original commitment to UW is now the current NCAA president.

There's a part of me that wonders how come the current NCAA president didn't have a problem or red flag raised when he was the UW president & his guy was recruiting Enes, but the organization he leads does have a problem with it now.

So what was the rule change they made over the summer that was supposedly going to discontinue the lengthy suspensions that are handed out to Europeans (like the WVU kid)?

So does this mean he cant play next season either?

Unless Websters redefined the word "permanently"

It depends on what the meaning of is is....

The conspiracy paranoia is out in full force tonight. This is nothing against UK from the NCAA. When you look at what they said about Newton there is nothing inconsistent, in it they said had Newton's dad actually succeeded in getting money Newton would be ineligible. Here the Kanter's succeeded in getting money. As for Ohio State I would bet OSU will suffer a severe penalty over all this if theses guys go pro. If they don't then they are receiving the same punishment AJ Green received this year at UGA for breaking the same rule so that's pretty consistent. When it comes to amount over, even Kanter's agreed upon amount is more than 3 times what Selby or Sidney at start were found. Just last year John Wall was allowed to play for receiving almost a thousand dollars in benefits after he paid it back. So the NCAA isn't really as inconsistent as you guys want to think, it's just they've determined 33,000 is beyond the realm of paying it back to make amends.

He's my inspiration. (& obviously the NCAA's inspiration, as well)

So let me get this straight, Newton and Daddy turned down $150,000+ from a couple of sources just for their love of Auburn?? Got some beachfront property in Auburn, AL for you!!
