January 4, 201115 yr I saw a picture of a guy wearing nice 3-button suit coat but he only had the top button buttoned. Yikes. That's a fashion rule violation in my book. It got me to wondering what rules you folks live by. I say a sports coat/suit coat always has the bottom button unbuttoned. I always thought the rule on that was (from top to bottom) always, sometimes, never.
January 4, 201115 yr At my brother's wedding, one of his now-brother-in-laws wore his good Jordans to the church, as well as his best pair of mesh basketball shorts, and one of his dress sleeveless shirts (those are the kind that are factory-hemmed at the shoulder instead of just having the sleeves cut off once you buy them). I should also add that dude weighs about 4 bills... Good thing it was in a church or he would have worn his cut-offs.
January 4, 201115 yr Ties tied the wrong length, and loud ties on patterned shirts drive me nuts. Gig lines are very important. Short-sleeve button down dress shirts worn with ties and no suit coat make me go a little bit crazy too. Oh, and I HATE when people have darker colored undershirts that show through their dress shirts - ESPECIALLY when the younger set wears printed shirts as undershirts and you can read them through. And if a dress shirt fits so snugly that the impression of the undershirt underneath it is apparent to anybody else, that's about as clear a sign as any to start shopping for bigger shirts or to start pushing away from the dinner table.
January 4, 201115 yr Umm...Never thought much of being up on fashion. I like ofr my stuff to match or at least not look tacky, but other than that I could care less, except for when I'm in a professional setting.

January 4, 201115 yr I may in the minority but unless you're bringing me my wine at the table I don't want to see you in a black dress shirt. Combine that with a white tie and you've got a nice Mafia look going. Does anyone wear a white tie any more? A look that I never could abide was the "Regis Philbin same color tie as dress shirt".
January 4, 201115 yr Probably my biggest pet peeve is people abusing casual dress Friday in an office setting. I typically wear a pair of khakis or any type of nice pant on Fridays with a decent looking collared shirt. Some folks will come in looking sloppy looking like Darth Hoodie. The short tie thing drives me insane too. Obviously mismatched things are wrong, we all realize that, but some people find it acceptable to mismatch buckle colors (eg. gold belt cover on shoes, silver for your belt, :irked:).
January 4, 201115 yr As the mother of a son who up until only about a year and a half ago thought that dressing up meant the cleanest pair of shorts and socks, and the lest smelly t-shirt was the ticket...I don't really put too many points of emphasis on men's fashion. :lol: As a member of a family worthy of a Jeff Foxworthy special all their own...I'm happy when everyone shows up to family functions with shirts on....albeit sometimes it'd be nice if they covered their bellies all the way...
